I had a chance to buy this a few months ago for $40 used which seemed reasonable as a risk. Brand new it costs about $100 and there’s no way I’m going to pay this for a game so random. Just read a book..Wow. A 9? That’s really surprising.
Not the cheapest for sure, though I think here it's more like 60-65 dollar equivalent. 100 seems a bit obscene and probably American price hike to import.
I’ve been looking for a campaign game that’s relatively low entry level. From your praises on how easy it can be setup/ pack away and good writing. I think I’ll just have to find it on the shelves now. Thanks Luke!
This was a major surprise for us. Picked up used for $40 US. went in not expecting a lot but have now played it 4 nights in a row for two hours. Playing any game 4 times in a row has never happened before (most get one, max two, then sold) and I have owned hundreds of games. It’s very relaxing, and entertaining. Some of bumir’s encounters are like my actual life. This is the game I would recommend to someone with high stress in their life (me) that needs to relax MORE than what a competitive game can provide. It’s always fun handing out the item cards, companions, to my wife and she really enjoys the animals and how we take turns reading the stories. Very mellow but fun! I would say it has already paid for itself with 4 ‘months’ of play.
I really love this one. it's the only one that i really enjoy playing solo as it is so quick to set up and engaging. The game system is very clever and I wish there are more games like this in the future.
thanks for the review luke! i ordered this, although it doesn't seem massively available in the UK. I bought it for my partner and I, we found Gloomhaven JOTL and imperial assault a bit too much on the upkeep so was looking for something a bit more relaxing.
Everything you said...100% I was lucky enough to win a copy of this one at a 'play to win'. I'm so happy with it. I agree, the the ease of exploration and the story is fantastic. I usually walk away from app assisted games, but I'm very much ok with this one. Love the art, the characters, and the quirky stories. (Side note: My 'The Broken Meeple' sweatshirt arrived today and I LOVE it! It couldn't be more perfect. Fits great, not too heavy, not too light. 🥰)
@@TheBrokenMeeple Seriously, for anyone looking, the sweatshirt is sooooo comfy. I've had it on since it arrived. I'm enjoying Fall temps in my corner of the world and it so perfect for it.
Thanks for covering this one. Just received via trade and really looking forward to diving in for all the reasons you described - a fun narrative to immerse oneself in as a solo experience and easily save your progress for another time. This video inspired me to break it open later :)
Looks like something I'd enjoy but i have Earthborne Rangers and Sleeping Gods: Distant Skies comjng at some point. Only need so many open world (ish) experiences
I wanted to love this one, but it ultimately didn't work for me. The lack of character progression and limited item slots take the joy out of getting new item cards, and stumbling into tests you can't pass because of your stats is frustrating. The stories are also kind of forgettable for me, but I do like seeing the world change around you. If they could work character progression into the game, I'd give it another try, but as is, I've enjoyed my time with it and am happy to move on.
A few kinda bad things: - there is no voice over. If you playing solo, it's fine. If you want to play with more people voice over really needed. - you are not in the drivers seat. In most cases if you want to do something you need to roll dice. If you roll poorly, too bad, story just ends there. And there is no mitigation for the bad rolls. The items you have kinda help, but not really.
You can reroll all dice once per skill check ;) and you can take/sell/buy items with some more or better tags on it and maybe you can choose story paths that use them...
@@akoasmaeurope7028 Problem with rerolls that you can't keep the dice you like and you have to reroll all of them, so most often you get the same or worse result. You also can't choose the best roll of two. That would be great improvement.
It’s so much of a Sandbox game, that I didn’t feel character progression and eventually the challenges or checks didn’t seem to make a big difference. It just wasn’t for me.
I really love this one. it's the only one that i really enjoy playing solo as it is so quick to set up and engaging. The game system is very clever and I wish there are more games like this in the future.
I'm in the same boat as you. Tried Sleeping Gods, but it's just too much to manage gameplaywise and setupwise. But definitely check out the new Sleeping Gods: Distant Skies. It's a bit more complicated then this one, but pretty straightforward in the end. Loved playing it so far!

Huzzah Finland and Sami Laakso!
Yeah, no worries with the language, Finlanders can good English do.

@@TheBrokenMeepleIt’s Canada price. Actually $120 cad after shipping, so about $88 US.

Stress free indeed!
Thank you for the review, Luke! So great to see you enjoy our latest game. 😊
Thanks again! Look forward to hearing more on Peacemaker.
Nice review. I was always intrigued by this one. As fan of 7th Continent and Sleeping Gods I think I will pick this one up eventually. Thanks Luke.
Great game, really easy to get to the table, everyone I have played it with so far liked it a lot.
Excellent review as always Luke, think I'll add this to my wishlist.
ok i wasnt that interested before but now it pretty much seems like a must have for i will be ordering a copy asap great review luke Stay Hexy!

I tried their peacemaker game at the convention, it was fantastic. Of all their games that one I liked the most.
I am certainly interested in that.

Thanks for the great review. This looks perfect to try out with the family.
Well this is now on the list. Also, please keep the ambient end credits, very nice

yes 👍 true without characters progression is become pointless on certain moment

Thanks for the review, not for me at all though as I'm not in narrative board games.
No worries!

Fair enough, it's going to work for some and not others for sure.
The game seems great but I'm just not a fan of animorphs.

I found this game excruciatingly boring
