OK, I'm definitely on the right page. Your conversion is great. You really did a great job. Love the sound and the little graphical touches like the rotation of the car. This is a very underrated game from the era. There was a pizza place not too far from my house I lived in as a kid and I would occasionally stop in and play the game. That and a Turbo machine.
Thanks, much appreciated. I thought the good old Commodore 64 deserved something better than Radar Rat Race. Plus it was a fun challenge to recreate the arcade layout with a score/radar map panel on the right while doing smooth scrolling of the playfield. Cheers, Jake
The game looks very promising and retro arcade. As for sound effects. Goat Tracker has ability to create your own sound effects. Alternatively, you could the edit the SFX byte tables in your code, and set the wave form and frequency tables and end the table with a byte 0. I did this many times with some of my projects. I copied/pasted my previous tables and then changed them to suit the game. :)
Thanks, it's a great suggestion, I'll have to play around with it a bit and see how it goes. But luckily for me NM156 made a bunch of sound effects for the game and sent them to me. Cheers, Jake
This is actually a very good port of New Rally-X so far! I know you think that the collision detection with the red cars are awful, but it's still really good! I just hope that this project will be finished or it will be unfinised in the same way as the Atari 8-Bit... The Atari 8-Bit version has so many bugs that the developer stopped working on it. I know that the sounds aren't very accurate, but the music sounds great! Maybe I can give it a try.
Thanks, I've already fixed the collision detection and NM156 on Lemon64 was kind enough to help me with some better sound effects. I will certainly finish this conversion of Rally-X, I've spent way too much time on this project to not finish it :-) I don't really have any blocking issues, just a lack of free time as once I've been off the project for months, then it takes some time to get back into it. I agree that Merman did a great job on the music, there are more tunes than showcased in this video. The plan is to release a beta version next, I just need to arrange all the levels with a reasonable difficulty increase balance and implement the bonus rounds to make it feature complete. Then I'll do a few rounds of bug fixing based on feedback before making a final release. I did follow the Atari 8bit conversion, too bad it was abandoned, at least the main programmer released the source, but it's unlikely anyone will continue the development, it does require a lot of work even for a fairly simple game like this. Cheers, Jake

Oh man, back in the day, I would've played that for hours. Awesome work 👍😃👍
Thanks, it was a fun project. The goal was to make a better conversion that Radar Rat Race.
Work in progress.
I'd love to test this! Hell, this might be useful for a video I'm working on!
You can find and download latest version on lemon64 in the Scene section.
Congraturations! I think it's not easy to make the radar system and the "AI" of the other cars!
