I have such a hard time keeping track of Stormcast unit names.
I imagine this is how it feels for non-space marine players.

I also have this issue with SM names.
At least the Space Marine unit names _kind of_ hint at what they're about. Even if many are synonyms for each other. The Stormcast unit names look like they slapped random nouns on and called it a day.
That Stormcast had a ridiculously bloated model range didn't help matters.
I recently learned a bunch of the troop names helping a friend start 40k with ravenguard, but all the tanks and other stuff *fwoosh* over my head
God I love skaven. They have a massive warp powered Gatling gun but still use a tricycle and rats to push it around.
Absolutely fantastic models. Fun fact it was actually the old metal Rat Ogre models that got me into the hobby back when I was a kid. (Amongst other things. The Emperor titan vs Mega Gargant artwork being another big influence)
Cant speak for the stormy boys but the skaven side of the box is amazing. Three heroes, all of which you'll likely want multiple of, a full unit of jezzails, rat ogres and a artillery piece and two full units of clan rats.
Unlike oops all tzaangors as an example, having a ton of clan rats is very welcomed, you always rin 2-4 full units of em.

I know, right? Skaven players are eating good this edition, yes yes.
What I think is particularly nice about that Skaven force is that people with older Skaven armies look like they're still going to be able to play a lot of their stuff. The clanrats, Rat Ogres, Grey Seer and Jezzails don't look all that different to models that have been around for 20 years, so aside from a little re-basing people should be good to go. Compare that to how Stormcast players have been treated recently and the contrast is pretty stark!
I strongly suspect it will be a struggle to find the player(s) who will buy the SC half of you box(es)

@@jacket2848 Hey, you might know better than me. I am not super plugged into AoS, the few players I know up this way give zero f's towards SC. Also, the times I've been in the GW here, I have yet to see anyone buy them. My evidence is super anecdotal.
The $450 dollars for the box set in Australia should be criminal considering the conversion of the other prices puts the box at $400ish dollars

As an Australian, $450 is insane, even with the “Australian/ New Zealand tax’.
I split all these big boxes with my mate (who mains stormcast) but $225 for a few skaven units isn't even much of a discount!
High quality models on both sides of this box! Everyone at my local is looking forward to getting their hands on it.
I dunno, if we're comparing it to leviathan, theres no ballistus-screamer killer equivilents. I wish theyd taken that terrain out, and given us more centerpeices

@rawntech_7820 the heroes are the center pieces as 40k just has regular infantry heroes so they add vehicles instead.

@@rawntech_7820AoS is a smaller scale game. If you have a Behemoth, thats usually a LOT of points.
A Ballistus is 140 points. A Steam Tank is 260. Cities of Sigmar is AoS's closest equivalent to the Guard, and their basic ass tank is 260.
If they had really big shit in a box like this, it'd be WAY too good of value for points per dollar. Giving them a Behemoth would be like if the battleforce that Guard will get with their codex would be a nearly full sized battleforce *plus* a Baneblade.
I really hope that Skaven avoid the starter box curse. In AOS the starter bad guy has sucked horribly.
Since we're playing index hammer and won't have a battletome right away, I have a little more hope for Skaven.
@@parsath_2584 I am absolutely sure given GW's production time the SC, Skaven and maybe 2 other are already done or at the printer.
Even if they aren't good immediately in 4th ed, they might eventually be good. If you're investing in a Warhammer army, you're in it for the long hall. (Admittedly, I don't know if Kruleboyz ever became good).
@@Bluecho4 kruleboyz are still kinda under performing winrate wise, but it's also a high skill seal army
I think they are a really good starting army for aos 3 as easy to learn but take a while to master ^^
In the end peeps should buy what's cool as stuff changes over time anyway ^^

GW always gets a lot of criticism, but those redesigned Sigmarines and skaven sculpts are awesome and the Eavy Metal painting team is really knocking it out of the park recently.

@@Bluecho4 very true, but if it's anything like the Leviathan launch box for 10th, storm cast half should be dirt cheap. The skaven players however are gonna be feral for that half lmaoo so I guess it depends on how many boxes they've made this time?

You could always sell them on the secondary market. There'll be plenty of folks who will want just the Stormcast models.
Ask around your local area to see if anyone wants to split the box. Or what I did with Leviathan which was to buy a box each and split half-and-half (so I got two sets of Leviathan marines).
If they follow 40k, most of it will probably be in their Spearhead box.
Same. Stormcast are pretty much useless trash for me. I don't feel like finding someone to split with. Cause then I have to pack up half and ship it.
I was on the fence about making a small army for aos and those awesome looking rat ogors have made me decide to try and pick this up lol.
i really like almost all of these, the skaven look so good, basically just like i always imagined them, and the stormcast are a big improvement versus the first gen ones. i have a few stomcast, though mostly the invalidated ones, but i never got round to painting up most of the dominion ones, so i think i might have a fresh start with them. they definitely look better when they're not painted gold
The Skaven look really good to me. The guy on the Rat Beast thingy probably has a Halberd which is a traditional Skaven weapon and chieftains get them a lot.

I wonder if they're leaving it open for Vermintide to eventually get a spin-off board game like Darktide got.
Probably done to avoid trademark entanglements. Even if GW and Fat Shark are on good terms, there's no reason to make the legal situation more complicated than it needs to be. "Skaventide" has the same effect, while being a new word GW can wholly own.

Incredible box. I got into AoS last year with the Flesh-Eater Courts, but i guess Skaven and Stormcast are gonna be my next army
Can't wait for Spearhead. I think it will be phenomenal for the game and for the hobby. I can get my students playing Spearhead at lunch or after school.
For twenty years clanrats looked a little too monkeyish for ratmen. Glad they fixed that

If I played Sigmar, I’d play skaven for sure. I love the models. I’m also overly invested in 40K lol, so I need no more hobby😂😂
I mean, you could kitbash the Skaven models into Imperial Guard, Genestealer Cults, or Chaos Cultists fairly easily. Remove some of their weapons or shields, give them guns. The Rat Ogres could work as Chaos Spawn, Bullgryn, or Aberrants. Etc, etc. Beastmen and mutants are a thing in 40K, after all.

My problem with this box has always been the price. Everything about its contents is fantastic, but at 450 dollars Australian, we are being squeezed more than any other country in which it's sold. I remember when an honorable mention for expensive miniature boxes was "Any box, but you buy it in Australia", and it has only gotten worse since that point. I feel completely priced out of the hobby, so that GW can get a better profit margin from the middle class hobbyists. It leaves a sour taste in my mouth knowing i wont be able to get one, or even split one because even split it is 225 dollars each. Just ridiculous, and I love everything that comes in it too.

@@Keram-io8hv i'll +1 this. People don't even know... If they haven't tried painting Lumineth. I don't think I'm a particularly lazy painter, I am even one of the rare breed of people who don't mind painting chaos trim, but I have made multiple attempts at painting box art Lumineth, and over the years I've only actually finished 2 Wardens (out of a minimum size 10 unit).

@@Bluecho4would be Even better vermintide at home if it was skaven vs cities of sigmar, but that might be a bit to much horde army (like seriously from a cities of sigmar player if you try for a infantry/cav army or Even gunpowder army you gotta need alot of models if you dont specialise into artillery or monsters)
I've never been a big fan of AoS, but all of those models are so awesome that I really want this box
If Sisters weren't getting their nee stuff this summer I would pick up the starter box. 4th edition might be the edition to get me into AoS and that box looks great
This box will likely stick around for some time, leviathan was available for like 8 months from almost anywhere
@@jacket2848 Yes, I think the production levels will be fine, apparently they want to try to get more 40K players into AoS with the Spearhead rules.
What I like about the stormcast is that they give me kitbashing materials for custodes

Aside from the Liberators, which I'm still unsure about (it's the "Squidward" helmets, really), I like the glow-up of the new Stormcast models. They look positively sick.
Speaking of sick, the Skaven aren't bad either. Personally, I think the Clanrats could have done with being a little less busy, since you'll be painting tons of them. But they're all very pretty. Especially those Rat Ogres. Since you couldn't get the Isle of Blood sculpts, that unit badly needed a refresh. They look positively dope.
Unrelated, I'm looking forward to how 40K players will kitbash the models from this box into their game. That axe-wielding Stormcast could make for a mean Master of Executions.
I wholeheartedly support your entrance into AoS but only as pertains to Skaven. Any time that would have been spent on AoS videos for any other faction should instead be spent on drinking margaritas, having nice warm bubble baths, and taking luxurious naps, because we don't deserve you and you should take time for yourself.

I don't play Stormcast but I'm tempted to pick up a set of prosecutors off of ebay, those wings looks like a ton of fun to paint.
Quite excited for this tbh - I wasn't thinking I'd be into the Ruination Chamber stuff but... yeah prolly gonna actually pick this one up.
I am really just looking forward to what they are doing with the Skaven so I can finish building out my Old World (aka Warhammer Fantasy) army of them. But I guess I could use the Stormcast as alternates for my 40K Inquisitor armies.

Bro, this is perfect I’ve been trying to get it age of Sigmar recently especially Skaven models, but there’s somehow so hard to find for some reason and the really interesting models are so expensive and this is great so i’m starting in a brand new addition and all the new models

Seeing you do your usual video format for 40k for AoS makes me wish you covered more AoS content, even if it is just for new models release. I used to watch so many of your videos back when i played 40k but i have moved on to AoS now and this makes me miss your vids.

Love the Skaven of this set. But I am biased, the warp stone addicted rats are one of my favorite factions in AoS and Old World
The Skaven look amazing and im looking forward to the next few releases. The Art is particular beautiful this time.
Terrain is nice but nothing special. Seems like more of a bonus.
The Sigmarines look also really nice. Especially the heroes.
What about the little howling wolf thing up the back next to the jezzails?
From a painter's perspective I really like the set. Plenty to paint when you want the glimmer of well polished armor or the grimy of the rats when that is your mood to paint. But ouch it would take a while to paint it all.
I am a 40K Ork play but I’m also an AoS Skaven player. I’m very excited about the models but I have so many clan rats. I was planning to double purchase and split the box with my buddy who plays Stormvast but if I do I’ll have almost 300 clanrats. I’m almost thinking to just keep the contents so I have another option.
Let me put it this way, how many guardsmen is too many? How many boyz is too many?

debating whether to buy skaventide or dominion. on on hand, dominion is 100 and has all the stormcat i want, but skaven tide has skaven and terrain... idk what should i buy?
I have to assist say this looks great. I dont play either army, but the remodels are great, especially the Skaven. The Rat ogres and Grey Seers being the standouts for me. Well done GW
AOS needs their own Horus Heresy type story to really get going. I love the models. I just need that hook to really suck me into to the setting.
Now I have watchers in the dark for my Dark Angels and my Stormcast. Sweet!
£160 is too much IMO. It needs to be south of £130, so as to land under a ton once a 20% online reseller discount kicks in to be an impulse buy. Maybe for those who want both forces, and the rulebook perhaps - but its too much to ask for a monopose starter set otherwise.
I also don't get the urge to bundle the full hardback book in every new launch box, when a smaller, paperback rules-only box is a better fit for the existing players who seem to drive most of the sames of these. Drop the price by 30 quid RRP and stick a players manual with just the rules in it instead.
How is this gonna work with Old world? Is it just gonna be crossover? Buy AOS models to use or will GW go to the trouble of rebranding? In other words, could you pick up these skaven models to use in old world?
Yeah you can use the skaven in old world, just slap them on squares, they won't rebrand them since gw is not planning to sell any skaven models explicitly for old world

Just once I'd like to see an AOS or 40k launch box not have Sigmarines or Space Marines. This box would have been great with the new Cities of Sigmar humans vs. the Skaven.

I really thinking about getting the new starter box, selling the rules box, exchange the Stormcasts for more Skaven and get them on square bases for The Old World. Very cool miniatures here!
Smart thinking especially if GW squats more SCE chambers in the future. Skaven feel squat resistant!
@@philliam81 Not really; GW blew up WHFB once already, so Skaven in TOW is very squattable there
The big draw here is really the resculpts since the old range of skaven is pretty much 20-25 years old. The Skaven side is fine because of the clan rats. Every Skaven player will need to get the resculpts. We'll have to see if the Rat ogres are actually good because they were eh in 3.
I actually prefer the rat ogres of the Blood Island Box, that were never released separately. But the new ones are still better than the original ones.
These models are A+mazing!
I like the sculpts of both the rats and new Stormcasts, they did well. I'll buy a more entry level box because I don't want to play AoS with them so don't need the paper in it.
My wallet is champing at the bit. Down boy! Lets see what reveals come tomorrow before I plan anything.

2+ Tough has a good series' of videos. note that some lore has gotten expanded on and retconned a little but for a general overview even his older stuff is still valid for understanding the current cannon.
