I also think that when Brigid was young her leadership was undermined and she felt insecurity about the man she loved chasing after the visage of her sister. So her major insecurity is in leadership and bloodlines. After she has Amnesia, Brigid became the de facto commander and her leadership was never questioned. Her adopted child sees her as her mother despite knowing they have no blood relation. So in the end, she achieved a bond beyond blood built on her strength and kindness. And built a secure community for herself. Plus she reunites with her children and her past. Its such a welldone character with closure.
Nice video, I think you should've added the bit about "geas" - her ending in Thracia 776 mentions that she regains her old memories and reunites with her children 7 years after the events of the holy war, which I find very wholesome. Best written character? Arvis, easily.
Fair point; I was unsure whether or not to include the ultimate conclusion to her story if anyone wanted to experience it themselves, but for the purposes of a complete history of the character, I definitely should have mentioned it. Arvis is a great villain, for sure. Refreshingly multifaceted in a series full of evil cults and berserk dragons, which FE4 does have, but the manner in which they twist Arvis's ambitions to fit their goals makes him a thoroughly tragic character by the time Generation 2 comes around. Can't wait to see how they adapt it all for a remake (hopefully well!).
Brigid and her family are some highlights for me in fire emblem 4. Everything can quickly become horse emblem but training up patty and making Febail take revenge during the last chapter vs all the bowknights is always satisfying.
I would like to mention that its heavily implied she is the female in that Live Action FE4 commercial. The female unit is blonde, is wielding a bow and has a headband not unlike Brigid
Pretty certain Brigid died but was revived similarly to the Wind Bard Mage Prince Guy. ... also Kaga made a reference to her in Tearring Saga. I think she's a goddess and a early prepromote you get, Raquel is known as the Child of Brigid. She's super powerful. 'w'
Great video, my personal favorite is Lex. Besides having the most events after Chapter 1... for some reason even more unique non-story events than Sigurd, only beaten by maybe Quan if you count the two conversations where he gives Finn stuff, he is a very interesting guy to me. He joins only because Azel wants to be there, defying his father's intent to never aide Byron or his spawn. This shows how devoted and loyal he is to those he cares about, even if Azel is the only one in the army he cares about so far. Chapter 1 he gets the secret event at the lake, where a goddess tests him on his temptation but he's not even phased for a moment, being honest and being rewarded for it. Later on you can have Lex or Holyn give Ayra a brave sword, but Lex's conversation is more interesting IMO, since Holyn basically just hands her the sword and she thanks him, while with Lex they kinda tease and poke fun at each other, implying he's tried flirting with her in the past. However, the brave sword shows her that he actually notices who she is and what she is like, something even Arden fails to do in his talk with Ayra later on if they're married. So far, Lex is known to be loyal, honest, and paying attention a lot more than those around him are, and probably more than they think he is. A lot of these traits remind me of Sylvain from Three Houses, only major difference is Lex isn't going on offscreen hijinks like Sylvain is. A lot of these traits get very interesting in the last chapter, as everything we know about Lex basically gets put together. The chapter starts with going to kill Langobalt, Lex's own father. You'd think he'd be conflicted, but it seems his resolve is only strengthened by having to face his father, saying that it is fate that his father must die for his actions. Fate is a reoccurring theme in this chapter, as this is the end of Gen 1. Lex then has a conversation with Azel about their families and the circumstances of their lives, but it gets interesting when it comes to the conversations he can have with certain pairings. When paired with Tailtiu, he is adamant that she get their kids out of Granvale and into Silesse, finishing by saying he will cherish what little time they had together. Now, he doesn't know that everyone dies, only Claud does, but Lex still acts like it's part of fate set in stone that they're not going to make it out of this one. His final conversation with Ayra, his most canonical pairing reflects this too. Lex argues with Ayra that she should've left and stayed with their kids, but she refutes saying she's not going to abandon him or the army simply because she's a woman, even if it means leaving her own kids alone in Isaac. Lex concedes knowing that's who she is, and even when she apologizes saying that this is who she is, he retorts back that her acting that way is why he loves her. Ayra states several times that they'll see their twin kids together after the battle, which he effectively gives a "yeah" to each time, not convinced at all that they'll have that chance. Lex is in a very interesting spot compared to the others. While he has been serving under Sigurd, he is related to those who devised the conspiracy against Sigurd. Unlike Arden or Jamke or any of the knights loyal to or hired by the company, Lex had a way out. He's shown to be very competent, he certainly could've talked his way back home, probably even getting Azel and Tailtiu out of dodge somehow. Despite this, he never is shown even contemplating the idea, staying loyal and honest to Sigurd and those he's come to care about, even knowing what fate it will bring...
Only tangentially related to your comment but i am playing a randomized genealogy of the holy war right now and Lex ended up as a dracoknight with nihil, renewal and vantage. He achieved 29 defense after promoting and he is using a shield ring for an extra +5 defense, all of this will be needed because i'm thinking of using him to kill Eldigan, who randomized into an EMPEROR wielding Balmung. Lachesis died on chapter 2 because the attacking squad randomized into armored bows who sniped her from Nordion before i could even get close.
@@wakkaseta8351 Not just Plum, Ishtar comes to mind, too. But yeah, Plum is a gigantic fail. And that was not the last of Kaga's fails too, he's up to his old tricks in Vestaria Saga. Merida manages to have a Plum arc while also being almost as badass in gameplay as Seth and Sigurd.

Cool vid. Since you invited talking about FE characters in the comments, I am now mandated to mentioned one of my faves who I know is underrated: FE8's Forde. Supports as a system have the major issue of being disconnected from each other. Regardless of how much 2 individuals talk, and how much a single person SEEMS to change, they could go right back with a later C support in another chain, or if they pop up in the main story, their changes aren't going to be accounted for. Goldmary is ALWAYS going to be self-absorbed and flaunt herself. Caspar is always going to be a hotheaded brawler. Hilda is always going to be pawning off the hard work on others. This isn't a flaw with the characters, persay, it's a flaw with the system. So, reasonably, you can only have supports either A: reveal unknown information about a character (EG: backstory and motives), or B: have someone change how they interact with VERY SPECIFICALLY that 1 person (EG: Hilda and Marrianne's 3 Hopes support showing Hilda going above and beyond to help Marianne, because she considers her a friend, and worth the trouble) So, in comes Forde. Forde makes the typical introduction of a red cav, he's a lazy, goofy, artistic knight to contrast with Kyle, the stern and no-nonsense green cav. In just 5 total support chains, we learn a lot. A: He can be a hard worker, but he's modest. His support with Vanessa has the pegasus knight come to understand he's been working behind the scenes to help her specifically. His support with Eirika has the princess thanking him for his service and his fighting skill, even as Forde brushes it off. Then, his support with Franz has his younger brother come to admire his every deed as valorous-fishing to feed the recruits good food, acting the fool to raise morale, painting the terrain in combat to get a lay of the land, and of course, fighting like hell to protect people. Though, whether all of this is 100% true is unclear, it may be his brother reading into things too much, and Forde does deny some of it. B: He used to be an incredible fighter, easily motivated, and very skilled. His support with Kyle has the green cav lamenting the fact that Forde beat his ass so soundly when they were kids that Kyle swore to work his way up and past Forde as a knight, only for Forde to, basically, give up on his regiment and spend time plenty more time relaxing than directly training. C: Forde lost his mother, then later, his father, at a young age, and had to raise his brother by himself. His father is stated to be away frequently, even after his mother passed, while his mother loved Forde not as a fighter, but as an artist-someone who could create rather than who could win. But really, the coup-de-grace that forms Forde into someone complicated and fascinating is what he does when he's confronted with the idea that Franz, his younger brother, admires his dedication as a fighter and a knight. Forde, instead of accepting his brother's love, rejects it. He says that he should be looking up to Seth, a proper commander, rather than Forde. When Franz insists, Forde still doesn't outwardly accept it, instead, he resolves, internally, to finish the war as soon as possible, and finally have the chance to rebuild a peaceful life. The reason why Forde rejects Franz's love, I think, is because Forde doesn't want Franz to love him as a knight. He wants Franz to love him as an artist, a painter, someone who doesn't fight for winning's sake, but who fights for necessity, for his younger brother. He wants to be loved like his mother loved him, as a final connection to that person he lost. But he also wants to be a hero, someone who can raise his younger brother and give him the safety he deserves, and someone who defends the innocent and does the right thing. This isn't to say that there aren't equally strong characters in other games, or even in FE8. I just really, really like Forde specifically.
Eyvel is best mom and is the perfection of the strong female character trope. She's super cool going back to FE4, and I don't want to spoil FE5 because her writing is so phenomenal that you can feel when something happens to her.
I always loved Saias in FE5, I wish they made more use of the fact that he's the bastard son of Arvis cause it really feels like they did so little with a huge fact.
Brigid being a bow user may have also had a hand in her crew's decision to mutiny. Most of the pirates are close range axe fighters. They probably want a leader that can lead the charge in raids.
I've always wanted an Echoes: Genealogy game with an awakening-like support system. That shit would be fire, especially with the god system. I doubt we'd get it tho.
A really unique game that i loved more than any other fire emblem game i played, granted i still have to play fire emblem 9 onwards but i don't think i'll get the level of uniqueness genealogy brings to the table.
I think that Brigid is undermined by her join time quite a bit. Being one of the last joining characters means that a lot of players, myself included, overlook her pretty heavily. By that point, we've got our favorite units that probably won't be usurped by a prepromote that we haven't had to put any work into. She's without a doubt useful, but in probably the least memorable way. Genealogy's main strategy of "flood the player with trash mobs" means her power isn't as necessary as it would first seem, and since she's two-ranged, she can't go on insane killstreaks like Lewyn or Sigurd, so she ends up feeling like that "she's nice to have but kinda boring" type of unit. It really is a shame, too, because she really is a cool character despite her limited screentime. Hilarious that in Thracia, she has the same fate of being missing from most of the chapters.
@unsubbin - not sure if you'd heard, but one of the people who accurately leaked Echoes some months before it was announced has recently said that FE4 (Genealogy) is next up for the remake treatment. Not sure about release dates or anything else concrete just yet, but- seems your prayers have been answered my guy.
Considering how often Faerghast calls her his waifu I'm surprised he's not in the comments. You also didn't mention that not only is she OP in the early game of Thracia, she literally cannot die--not a game over scenario, the game is literally coded so that she cannot, and will not, die. What's more is that if you set up Chapter 5 or whichever one she gets petrified in right, you can keep the immortality thing on her when you get her back. Niche, but maybe useful for cheesing the couple chapters you have her for again at the end.
The problem with yewfelle is that it is the worst legendary weapon. First, it's a bow. Then compared to other legendary weapons it "only" gives 20 bonus stats. But 10 of those points are wasted. It gives 10 speed but weights 10 points more than a killer bow, meaning they give the same attack speed. Yewfelle gives a skill and that's good, except the skill is bad , does not often come into play and doesn't really work with the role of an archer. Yewfelle also has 70 hit which is kind of yikes. The killer bow has 100%. Yewfelle has effectively 40 might but the killer bow or brave bow might outdamage the yewfelle, especially since they are more accurate. The yewfelle becomes a niche weapon that you use in the hopes of killing someone before they can retaliate. Or use the big hp pool granted by holy blood to 2 hit ko scary ennemies while tanking a hit, but the lack of nihil + lowish accuracy means it's not really good at it. Tldr Brigid good.
Yeah, fair point. Renewal really feels like it was tacked on (to the point where I didn't even bother to mention it), something like Nihil would have been better. The lowish hit rate definitely hurts too. I just think the Yewfelle is a satisfying weapon to use, given the insane HP pools of a lot of Genealogy enemies; taking massive chunks off of boss health bars without Critical just feels nice. But as you say, your mileage may vary. I think it definitely helps with Brigid's "unit feel" though and helps distinguish her from Jamke and potentially Midir (despite his mount making him definitively the better unit). tldr Yewfelle better than drugs
Funnily enough i did use the renewal aspect of yewfelle to make brigid and jamke(with a renewal ring) two regenerating tanks, which would attract attention from the enemy army because they couldn't retaliate at melee range while surviving the onslaught because of good defenses and renewal.
I was really underwhelmed by this video. The whole thing looks like if you just read Brigid's/Eyvel's information off some Fire Emblem wikis, and didn't contribute much of your personal analysis beyond a few isolated quips. Brigid wasn't evaluated as a character, or as a unit, just described. Plus, the whole premise of the video wasn't answered: you didn't tell us how she, out of all the units Fire Emblem has had in all its history, is its underrated badass.
