    My favorite thing my mom did when we did the human body unit was that on the first day of the unit we traced our bodies and then as we learned about each different sytem and specific part we colored a printout of that part and added it to our life size bodies. It was SO FUN.

    I teach kindergarten in Australia. When we cover the human body I set up a doctor’s clinic/hospital for the children to role play. I find as the can’t write well early on in the year they communicate their level of understanding through the conversation and play that happens in that play corner. It would be great for your younger 3. It can be super simple or more elaborate. A find a working stethoscope, a few baby dolls and a real life first aid kit is a great place to start. You could set it up near the play kitchen.

    Look up extraction of strawberry DNA it’s a fun thing for kids of all ages to do and can easily be done at home. In the end you can see the dna and it looks like snot which little boys always love!!

    I love how much you care about giving them as much exposure to information as they need but also that you add the things they want to know about. I'm currently in my last year of highschool and have been watching your videos for months now. Angela, honestly your family is such a huge inspiration to me. If I wasn't planning on becoming a special needs teacher, I'd home-school my own kids. Thank you for videos like this. And DNA is interesting. I hope they enjoy learning about that.

    What I don't understand about homeschooling is: how do you work with children of different ages, do they all learn the same basic content? How do you get their attention and get them to focus- especially with children with learning disabilities? What do you do with your babies while you give your lessons? Btw I love how organized and resourceful you are!

    We use a trifold/bifold poster board (like you use for science fair presentations) as our science wall. I put Velcro on it as well as the vocab words after I laminated them . That way when finished with the unit study we can use it over and over again.

    Dear Angie, your homeschool videos are so inspiring! I work as a teacher in Germany (biology and chemistry) and I am so impressed by you teaching so many subjects to so many children! It must be so much work! Your resources for the human body unit look so fun and interesting and I am sure your kids will enjoy this unit so much - I would enjoy it as a kid!
    I am looking forward to your next homeschool video! Loves, Anita :)

    Hello Angie! I just wanted to let you know that I am a teacher that has worked in mainstream and special needs schools and I adore these videos. Always on the hunt for new and creative lesson ideas.and I believe that you explain what works and why you chose it very well. Love the hands on stuff as often am creating pieces lime that myself (like labels for names of body parts).

    For your TH-cam part I instantly thought of the Once Upon a Time... series. It's pretty old, but I loved it as a child. (It aired on German TV, I had to look up if it had an English translation... ;) ) The Once Upon a Time... Life has episodes for different parts and functions of the body, for example I can still remember the one about the immune system and how it's the body's police ;) I think you can find the episodes on TH-cam.
    en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Once_Upon_a_Time..._Life
    And if you do a history unit the Once Upon a Time... Man is also very interesting :)

    One of our favorite units too! I plan my units this way, except I don't have any room for the chalkboard that I would love. My kids also adore the "Anatomy Apron" that I bought several years ago. They can wear it around and see the various body parts.

    suggestion:
    At the end of all classes you could go to a first aid course for kids?:) I don’t know if you have one in your country/area but I think it is never too early to take a first aid class :) for your younger ones they will explain it easier, but your two older ones maybe can do a normal first aid course. They’ll learn a lot for their daily life.

    I have two boys (ages 6&4) and they love to draw human bodies on our driveway. One will lay down on the driveway while the other traces around with chalk. They both work together to draw what's inside their bodies. They switch among the different systems depending on their interests. At first, they would have questions and we would look up the answers together, but now they can do it on their own.
    I thought it might be an activity your kids might enjoy too.

    Some extra resource ideas for you! SciShow Kids here on TH-cam has lots of great science videos for the kids, and Teachers Paying Teachers which is a website where teachers post low cost or free resources and you don't have to be a teacher to register.
    For the DNA unit, you could probably teach the kids some easy Punnett squares. My favorite example to use for DNA and teaching dominate genes is eye color.

    So many great items and ideas! We are doing this unit in the spring and I'm tempted to buy lots of extras... but the cost 😯 Do you work within a budget for homeschooling or do you just buy what you feel you need?

  • @amyw9277
    @amyw9277 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Did you have to purchase most or all of these item for this year? Seems like some of your units would get rather expensive. Are you able to use these items as a tax deduction at all or get some type of home schooling money threw grants? Sorry, I hope you don't mind me asking. I am just curious. I couldn't get my daughter into preschool this fall because of my business hours (I do daycare and not enough room in our van to drive all the kids with me to drop her off) so I am doing some home schooling things with her. I do a lot of preschool type things with my daycare but my daughter's will be a bit more one on one (during nap). I purchased her curriculum also from The Good and The Beautiful. It has a really nice layout I think. I am excited to give it a try with her.

    • @angela.braniff
      @angela.braniff  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are ways to do things much cheaper than I do 😂😂😂 trust me. I consider it an investment as I can use it all again and again... also I can consign and sell things we are no longer using.

      I was watching another video and got my answer. Thought I would share with those of you who are curious. I liked this answer and think this is how I will try it. My daughter is in kindergarten and very eager to learn. I plan on using the science units with The Good And The Beautiful science units starting now with safety and next year repeat these units and touch on different, age appropriate topics in that subject. An example is my daughter doesn't need to learn about internet safety at this age, but well repeat that later on with other age appropriate topics u til I feel the subject had been covered totally. Hope that makes sense.

    Thank you for sharing this! So good. We are doing TGTB Kingdoms unit and Chemistry unit this year (7th grader) What Usborne books would you recommend for those 2 units? Thanks! Love your videos.

      Madison Hopper she made it by painting a section on the wall with chalk board paint and putting a boarder around it.

    Do you purchase all these books? Just wondering about the price tag. I'm interested in homeschooling but don't know if I will be able to afford it. I live in a French province and want my children schooled in English, not sure how many resources would be available at the library considering there's only one store in the entire city which exclusively sells English books!

    You should watch the TH-cam video Louie Giglio on Laminin.
    It talks about the glue that holds our skin to our body. It might be good for the older kids.
    Also check out Bill Nye the science guy body on TH-cam.
    The magic School bus inside the body on TH-cam

    If I lived in America, I would 100% homeschool but it’s just too taboo here in the uk I wouldn’t feel comfortable but it’s such a shame because this is exactly what I want for my kids.

      Natural Vegan Mom look up indestructibles books on amazon. They are literally indestructible and perfect for getting toddlers used to books!
