Since making this video I was refunded in full with an apology. And I’ve had a lot of good communication with Signature Solar. I go in to more detail in my follow up review video here Eg4 6500ex follow up review. th-cam.com/video/3192QyqAsCg/w-d-xo.html
Thanks for sharing Gavin. Had the same experience w/ customer support telling me to remove the dimmers/dimmable bulbs. You're in a very unique position where you had the old MMPs installed and all you did was swap them out for the 6500s. They should be near identical w/ the exception of the higher MPPT voltage allowance.
Agreed. But that certainly isn’t the case. I never would have imagined they would charge me a 40% restocking fee though. After all that. Extremely disappointed with SS.
My MPP 6548’s have been running solid for a year now. I do supplement from the grid during summer or long periods of no sun and then only charge off peak rates. Even so my ROI will be 4 years. The only problem I’ve got is when the grid goes down, people keep asking why my whole house is lit up and still running, wondering why they don’t hear a generator.
Thank you so much for sharing your experience. Very sorry for your experience. It's Noble of you to try to help others. I don't think the video was too long and it all sounded very sincere and honest. I also bought two LV 6548 for watts247 thay have good customer service
I appreciate the kind words. I honestly wondered if I had made a mistake in posting on here snd the forum. And although I was/am frustrated with SS. I just just want people to be able to make an informed decision.
NUTS! Wow, I can not believe this is happening. I was told months ago by a good source that because of the chip shortage, they used off-brand chips and made them work with software patches. It looks like that didn't work. Great video, Gavin 👍
Wills units do appear to be working fine. I confirmed it with him on the forum. I have an update video coming soon hopefully. I was refunded in full. And SS contacted me, they are sending me 2 new units to review. So as soon as I receive them I’ll update everyone.
Hi Gavin - I feel your pain. Sorry to hear this is still ongoing. We had the same issue with terrible SS support. I did a chargeback due to their unwillingness to support in a timely manner. SS rebrands these units, but acts like they designed these products. I presume the issue is some software issue. I dont have the strobing issue on my 6 inverters, only when using a blender or when pulling a lot of current through tankless water heater.
I was definitely not happy with their service. I think it’s firmware related yes. Since this video was made I was contacted by management and they refunded me in full with an apology. They went over the some of the plans they are starting to implement to take care of customers faster. Also they’ve sent me a new pair of inverters to review. I’ve been working on that video. So hopefully I can release it next week. So when it comes to signature solar I’d say they aren’t where they should be, but I believe they are finally working their way towards it.
@@GavinStoneDIY Glad to hear this last...I've got two of their Growatt 5000W/48V units, and while they've been working fine so far, I've been worried in case anything went wrong because I've heard their customer service isn't very good. I figure it might be because they are a smaller company, and they just need to grow their customer service department, and perhaps get a few more techs that can help answer problem questions. Thanks for the video. You just aquired a new subscriber.
Thanks for sharing. EG4 has requested Voltronics make several changes for the EG4 version of the inverters. Some of the changes include firmware, PV voltage, and connectors. One of the most recent changes was the removal of the bonding screws. They may have requested cost savings on some of the components as well. I have no doubt that one of the changes they made had unintended side effects.
Interesting. If they were transparent about that then I would completely understand. I just wouldn’t purchase the inverters. It’s the pretending there is nothing wrong part that I have a problem with. Well, that and charging me 40% restocking fee plus shipping on a defective product. Definitely have an issue with that as well. Since they already know there is an issue, it’s just dishonest.
@@Tumbleweed5150 everything was completely refunded. I did a follow up video here. Eg4 6500ex follow up review. th-cam.com/video/3192QyqAsCg/w-d-xo.html
I have a 12,000growatt that Signature solar quit helping me with so I went with 2 sp6548 & they work much better. I wish Watt24/7 had them instock when I needed them, because there support is great.
I have a Schneider sw 4048 been solid for 4 years. i am mad they deleted support to parallel them now can only be done with xw 6848. I had thought about 2 eg4, glad i seen this video. maybe just save bit more for xw unit. your video almost makes it look like in power search / save mode. my little Victron when in this mode would do that.
I’m doing a review on a new pair of these right now actually. They refunded me in full with an apology. And since then have come out with different firmware to remedy the issue. I’ll hopefully have the video ready in the next couple weeks. I ran into a bit of a snag with them. But I’m working through it with support right now. You honestly can’t beat a Schneider. They are pricey, but the performance seems to be amazing. Anyway, keep an eye out for review. I’m thinking some of their issues may be solved.
An easier fix would have been to replace your led bulbs with a different brand. I had the same issue, with GRID power, and changing to a more expensive LED solved the problem.
If the eg4’s were my first inverters I may have considered it “normal”. But since I had the mpp lv6548’s running with the exact same lights and wiring without any flickers or issue, I realized it’s a problem with the eg4’s themselves. Dimmer switches can malfunction, and cheaper bulbs can shimmer. But I don’t have any problem with my other inverters. So their “upgrades” on these inverters have caused something to create inconsistent voltage. I wouldn’t want to cover that up. Instead I chose to not use what appears to be faulty equipment.
Led bulbs have different circuits for driving the LEDs and there is no way of knowing what circuit design a bulb uses before buying. You want bulbs that fade to off. If they fade, there is a capacitor just before the LED in the circuit and it costs more to include it. Avoid the cheap bulbs in bulk packaging. No need for premium either. Just experiment with bulbs that are a few dollars more than the cheapest bulb and you could get lucky. Try flicker free bulbs.
@@adamosity7127 definitely worth experimenting with bulbs. My issue wasn’t with bulbs though. It made my standard halogen bulbs blink the same. Likely s voltage issue. I’ll hopefully have a follow up video soon.
i have the eg4 6500EX and updated latest firmware in march 2023. i now get fault code 71 and error code 61 when i try to use bms communication betweein inverter and egt 48v 100ah batteries. only way to work is to set communication to user defined and manually set settings. i am getting same impression that these are not ready for sale and was rushed to market !
Yes, they’ve had quite a few issues. What has tech support said about your problems? I was refunded for my inverters. And they Have sent me a new pair to review. I’m currently in the process of doing just that. So hopefully I can update everyone soon.
It was a defective Ethernet cable. They replaced the cable and then I updated again the firmware. So far so issues, but the flickering lights are resolved
Great. I just took delivery of one these. Not wanting spend a bunch of money, I went with a refurbished unit. It's dated 2022. Supposedly, it has "updates" whatever that means. I guess I can hope it works.
They were plagued with issues. But I believed they have solved most of not all of them. Keep me updated as you do the install. My bet is they have solved the problems.
I'll have to be honest. When I first started watching this video I was not a believer. I was thinking that you had installed something wrong and was just beaching! My apologies for what I was thinking! I don't know what is going on. I know a guy who has this unit (he's had it a while) and it runs great. I also saw Will's video and figured that since he complains about a battery testing 1 ah short, that they must be alright. After Googling this issue, I think that I was wrong. It seems to me that these might have been alright when they first started making them but LOTS of people are having all sorts of problems with the new ones! Now, I am really glad you made this video! When I first watched it, I thought you were rambling on. That is good though because you are actually trying to drive a point to help others. If I got ripped for the kind of money you did, I would be highly 'upset' to say the least! I am ordering my first 'all in one' units within the next week or two, and have been searching for info. I was considering the Eg4 60-48, Eg4 6500ex and the MPP 6548. I ruled out the first one because I have very few 220 loads. I was really about to get a couple of 6500EX's. I wanted the higher inputs. I'm not now. I looked at Watts24/7 and I am getting in contact with them today. If anyone is thinking like I was, I recommend that you do a really thorough, objective search about complaints, issues and reviews of Solar inverters. It's like the X files. The truth is out there! Nice video and Thank you for making it! Ya'll Take Care and be safe, John
Thanks for the feedback John. Videos like this are difficult to make for some of the reasons you mentioned. You don’t want to just seem bitter and moan about how people treated you. And you also want to be straight forward and honest. Since the making of this video, signature solar has done some investigating and come up with a firmware fix that they say corrects many of their issues. They have refunded me in full with an apology. And they have said they’ll said me a pair of these inverters to review for a follow up video. I’m not sure when I will receive them but you can always keep checking in till then. In the meantime Ian at Watts247 is fantastic to work with. He can answer any questions you have. Let me know if you need any details when it comes time for your install.
My Growatt es500es flickers led all the time. I am leaning towards magnum low frequency inverters or a solark. I guess you can't expect much from under $1000 all in one
I have two of the Growatt SPF 5000 ES 48v inverter transformers, with the Solar Edge midpoint tranformer, (needed to put out 120V, as these are 240V units), and I have had no problem, and all of my lights are LEDs.
Just keep an eye on it. Running sensitive loads may be a bad idea with those inverters. If you haven’t unboxed them then I believe it’s just a 5% restocking fee and return shipping.
@@fasnuf not too bad, but went to move around some pv wires at the inverter and forgot they have power on the input side and fried the pv board. Had to have it back up asap and ordered a new one.
Would you clarify for me.... Is the issue specifically related to the split phase functionality? Meaning, did you have any complaints specifically about a unit that would be running by itself for 120V only capacity? Thank you.
It seemed to be an issue with the voltage sharing of the inverters. So in single phase I doubt it would be a problem. However, signature solar has refunded me in full, and they have sent another pair of these inverters to review. They have also come with with firmware fixes to correct problemS like this. I’m hoping to have a review video out soon.
@@GavinStoneDIY Tahnks for the video and the response. I really appreciate it. Your content is really helping people come up with solutions for themselves. For us its an ice cream truck where we only need 120V. Thanks again.
I only have one unit and every single dimmer controlled bulb flickers. UPS's on computers randomly trip out.. they are NOT good units. Finally giving up on waiting for a fix.
This video popped up in my feed this morning. We have been acquiring the components for our 48 volt solar system (off-grid). We have two of the Eg4 6500ex inverters for our system and really based it off of Will Prowse and his recommendation. They were purchased a year or two ago but have never been taken out of the box because we weren't ready to install. Did Eg4 ever solve this problem or am I going to have the same problems you did?
I have 4 junk eg4 6500. Dealing with signature solar for more than 5 weeks. Its true tier 2 dont have phones. The passave aggressive answers i get from them and the days it takes to get a 2 second question answered. Im floored.
I feel your pain. Things have definitely improved at signature Solar. But they still have a ways to go in some areas. I would suggest emailing Jessica at SS. She handles things like this for people. Give me an update on how it goes. engagement@signaturesolar.com
Just thinking out loud, Gavin. Did you have the EG4s in UPS mode or "appliance" mode? Did you try both? I think the phase lock is different in the two modes. You might be getting crosstalk between the grid and inverter power and the "strobing" that you are seeing might be the two beating against each other... like two musical tones that are at slightly different pitches. Or maybe the frequency is dithering because the phase lock is looser in one mode.
Yes. Unfortunately that wasn’t the problem. I was informed by Ryan at tech support that they had occasionally had some success with light strobing changing that. They apparently have a new firmware update as of last night that will fix this issue. It caused quite a bit on controversy.
I am in the process of planning a system. I was surprised at the fan noise coming from your MPP Solar units. Have you measured the decibels? I'm curious how loud they are. And is that typical of these type of inverter/chargers? Also, I'm curious: If you already had these installed, why did you replace them (temporarily) with the EG4 units?
Sorry I didn’t see this comment till now. The fan noise is around 50 db at idle. I’m sorry I haven’t checked when they are fully charging. When they are charging at a high rate they are pretty loud. Much louder then you’d expect. I just recently downloaded an app to check the levels. I replaced them with EG4s because they have a higher voltage open circuit limit for solar. Which means you can run the panels in easier configurations. My voltage was spiking in the winter with the cold. So the eg4’s seemed like an easier option. Unfortunately I had issues with them. However, I have a new pair of them I’m reviewing as I write this. So stay tuned. I will hopefully have an update on that soon.
@@GavinStoneDIY Thanks for responding. In my quest to find the ideal 120/240V AIO I have noted that no manufacturers reveal sound levels of their equipment.
@@johnbrzezinski1446 the solark is extremely quiet from what I’ve seen. Quite a bit more expensive, but a great inverter all around from what I’ve heard. So it really depends on what your budget is. I’m hoping to install a solark 15k within the next few months so that will definitely be on my list of things to measure.
I have had my EG4 6500 since March 2022 and only issue has been error 61 which was corrected and as for some of these you tubers pushing it I believe most of theirs they got before changes were made and they didn't have all the problems people are have with the new version. So I don't believe they are pushing anything. Wil never hesitates to tell you if something is bad.
I actually tend to agree. Based off what I’ve seen I believe Will’s inverters have worked great. It seems like it’s the second Generation EG4’s that have had an issue. Between hardware and firmware they have just been very glitchy and had multiple problems.
Since the Neutral ground bond screw is out of your inverter it needs to be bonded in your Sub panel this will fix your lights flickering and going crazy
That isn’t the problem. I have everything wired correctly. I have the mpp lv6548’s wired the same way with the bonding screws removed. This has nothing to do with why the lights were flickering. There is an issue with inconsistent voltage coming from the eg4’s. And no issue at all with the mpp version. Eg4’s aren’t generating a pure sine wave in my opinion. All EG46500 inverters seem to have this problem according to signature solar tech support. And that goes far beyond just lights. It will eventually ruin sensitive electronics.
My lights Blink when I use infared cook top. Any one know where which light to replace so it will stop blinks like this please tell me which type of lights and where to buy them, thanks a lot.
I bought a 15K Seems to be worth it. I run in in tie grid feeding my shop and house now with the cts. Power goes out and you off gid. 200 amp hook up. I all most bought the eg4's but didn't. I replaced Growatt 12k. that seems to be a good inverter for $2500. Just want more solar voltage.
Yeah, you really can’t go wrong with a solark. Eventually that’s probably where I’ll land. Deye already has a 16k inverter out now. That would be awesome to see in the next year or two with solark.
Had the same problem with the EG4 6500EX and installed LV6548's in their place temporarily. The LV6548's work flawless. The problem is my array was set up for the higher PV input voltage so I'm currently running with only half my array connected. Signature Solar did RMA the 6500EX's and currently have them but I have not heard any followup from them about replacements. For those wanting to see the sine waves from the EG4's I received and the LV6548's, take a look at the videos on my channel. I have found the power is dirty from the EG4's and believe this will lead to circuit board failures in appliances down the road. If you have the strobing light effect and see the voltage fluctuation on your EG4's after removing any bonding screws and updating firmware, I suggest contacting Signature Solar to begin the RMA process to get replacements. Gavin has the updated video on the later EG4's and this problem may be corrected. If I do receive replacement EG4's, I will be testing with a scope and posting up a video showing my findings.
Lots of TH-camrs recommending these inverters. Will Prowse etc. If they're running dirty power, this can mess up all your sensitive computer stuff after a while. They will check for faults before sending them out to major youtubers. I think his ones were dropped in transit but still worked.
That’s possible. Good news is I’ll get another try! Signature solar apologized and refunded me in full. They have also sent me a new set of inverters to review. So hopefully I will be posting that video next week. Stay tuned.
After your experience why?? You tubers. Of course they'll double and triple check you get a good version... You'll rave about it.. All problems fixed.. And they'll continue sending suspect units out.

I went over this in my follow up video. The new units they sent for me to review work fantastic. No more issues. And yes indeed, some of the newer Sungold and mpp units do have the same problem. They just had a larger back order of inverters before the problem started to show.

You might give Signature Solar a bit more time to mature as a company. With Will Prowse and others, plus Gavin Stone, they are going to feel the pressure to improve thier Customer Service experience ASAP, or find themselves out of business.
Thx for sharing. I am beginning to think this whole thing is a scam. All of these inverters are running to high on their duty cycle to last 20 yrs. With a 2 yt warranty. More and more I see people complaining about a lot of brands and models. Tho I have seen a disproportionate number of complaints about eg4 inverters.. if these same size machines were a welder would we expect it to operate at that high of a duty cycle for that many hours out of the day and last 20 years. I know your vid is about different issues. But just venting what I see in general..
I tend to agree. Although perhaps it’s the fact that the solar industry has really grown immensely in the last 5 years. And with it the inverter technology. More and more people are installing systems on their own. And many of them aren’t installing them correctly. That coupled with faulty equipment means a lot of complaints.
I had considered that. With the location of my inverters relative to my main panel that would be difficult to wire. Plus the eg6500’s are high frequency inverters. So they aren’t ideal for larger inductive loads anyway. Which makes them useless in my opinion. So, possibly a cheaper lf inverter. Or I may wait for the mpp 11k inverters that are coming on the market.
I was actually about to go with 2 EG4 6500 like you did but decided on the GSL-H-12KLV-US with 200A AC Passthrough. They are similar to a Sol-ark but less than half the cost.
Where did you find the GSL for sale recently? My friend bought one a couple years back and I helped him set it up. I found out the GSL - sol-ark - deye connection when searching for an error code we were getting. The error code the inverter had was not listed in his GSL pdf manual that came with the inverter. Found it in the more detailed error code tables for sol-ark and Deye. I hadn’t seen GSL for sale for the last year or so.
Not the PV. My SP6548 has the exact same strobing issues! Fighting with it for almost a year. Finally saying screw it and buying LV6548's like I should have originally. SunGold kept promising a fix and it never came.
@@GavinStoneDIY That firmware "fix" causes an error code 80. SunGold pulled the firmware from their site and had me flash back to the original. They have begun implementing hardware changes to the new units that supposedly fixes this. But, with a years production of faulty units out there how is anyone to know what they are getting? I would avoid all the clones of the MPP units. They will not replace mine but expect me to buy a new one. No way! Signature really took it on the chin over these units. They should have stopped the sales when they knew there was an issue. Resolve it, then resume. I have had terrible service from them in the past so I can imagine all you had to go through. In many peoples cases these are their sole source of power so swapping/exchanging/updating is all time they have no power. A year is far too long to ask a customer to put up with a faulty device.
@@MrMike-fn4hi I think it was a hardware problem that everyone tried to fix with software. Whatever SS did remedied the issue all together. I had a really hard time with them before so I wouldn’t ever tell anyone to shop where they aren’t comfortable. That’s why I advised people to check the forum out also. It’s really up to each individual. And if the mpp’s meet your needs with voltage then I think you’ll be satisfied. I’ve heard of a couple f80s on those recently as well though. So I think it was most all the voltronic inverters in the factory.
Agree 💯 percent same problem but to get rid of them probably cost you what you paid to get them plus you will have to replace them and then the guys like will who gets free stuff is quite about them wish I had knew about this would have never buy them.
You’re correct. You barely get anything back when you return them. In my opinion it would be worth saving for some different inverters. You wouldn’t want anything frying the compressor in your fridge or your smart tv dying.
Possibly stupid question but did you verify they were set to 60hz instead of 50 (Manual says 60hz is default but mine were set to 50hz) this would cause your exact issue
I did verify that yes. I also thought it could be an issue with idle vs having loads. It strobed either way. The real eye opener was when tech support informed me they get calls about that problem all the time. I’ve read that people have scoped the sine wave output and it’s dirty.
I couldn't be happier with my LV6548. It's been running non stop for 17 months. It's on the back porch and it does get pretty loud but since it is outside it doesn't really bother me. Someone trying to run them in the house might be put off with the sound. I actually like to hear it whining away because the louder it gets the more power I'm making. I also agree with Watts 24/7 being a stand up company. Ian texts you right back whenever you have a question.
I installed mine about a month now and to tell you the truth I have not have any issues with any lights and i also have dimmers but like I sed it's only a month have to see how it keeps working. I'm planning to make a video soon on my setup. sorry your's did not work like it was supposed to
Those have been hit and miss with problems. From what I’ve seen these issues have rippled down through the whole 6500 line of inverters. But hopefully they have worked it out. I know eg4 came up with a remedy for their problem.
I agree the eg46500ex have a dirty output but you have to consider the cost. In my case running 2 EG46500 split phase I scoped the output and it was Very dirty and I did get flickering on some dimmers but not all. I decided to continue to use the EG4 and replace the flickering dimmers with a model that did not show a flickering problem and put all my sensitive electronics on a UPS that cleans up the power. Its unfortunate SS has a poor reputation on customer service but with there sales volume and price structure why would they care. How many of you were surprised when Victron pinned there brand to SS.
They are just a dealer for Victron I assumed. I did see their announcement. But they are already selling victron products. Like current connected is. I think it’s a shame they are selling unpure sine wave inverters. The costs isn’t that much different for an mpp version. I would definitely stick with that. The UPS is a good idea in a pinch though.
The flicker only appears to happen when connected to utility power in specific modes (from numerous reports on forums). There's supposed to be a firmware fix to address it, but it seems like it's too sensitive in it's *current* response to loads, and those dimmers also use active circuits which might be creating a "ping-ping" effect. I'm going to put a scope on my inverter once it's running (still a bit more wiring to do)...Having a static load on the same circuit seems to help, which would make sense by creating a higher baseline current and stopping the ping-ping responses. If you have a couple of appliances that run all the time (fridge, freezer, HVAC) split them between the two loads and you should see an improvement. It also helps balance the loads between the inverters which needs to be done.
@@Mike80528 I’d be anxious to hear what results you get from the scope. According to tech support the firmware update was to address the inverter not automatically restarting in certain modes. But has nothing to do with any flickering issues. Although some of their staff on the forum said otherwise. I tried mine with a load and without. Also with grid and without. It just always seemed to strobe. A slight flicker can occasionally occur with an extremely heavy inductive load. But that happens with most inverter. Sometimes even LF inverters. This was far more then that.
If you ask me, and I have seen this with numerous Chinese made products where they are the OEM for American companies: CCP Sabotage in order to have people buy the superior China brand identical product. My opinion now is that this is fact. LED bulbs are definitely a problem (the driver/ ballast). But I am inclined to agree, that I wouldn't want the extra potential THD or faulty sinewave (knowing that the MPPs work without issues). I have two brand new EG4s (first revision) uninstalled sitting on a table from about a year ago. Now I'm scared. Before I bought them I had some technical questions for their tech support (SS) and all I can say is they didn't know what they were talking about and couldn't answer my questions (granted I presume it was "Tier 1" TS). I wonder if lights would flicker if only one inverter was installed (i.e. not split phase)? That would be an interesting test.
There was actually a switch of some internal hardware at the factory level. It’s a long story. They came out with some firmware that did remedy some of the problems. The short answer is that the original version and the newer eg4 versions should be fine. But late last year they had some real issues. I have an update video describing some of this. I was refunded in full and since then have reviewed quite a bit of their equipment.

Ian at 24/7 Is a super guy but these inverters are killing him, Replaced 2 boards on my LVX 6048's at MPP's expense but i had to ship. I finally had it. There on a shelf in my garage now I don't trust them.
Definitely wasn’t a fun experience. Since this video they have refunded me in full with an apology. They came out with a firmware fix which will hopefully address this problem. They’ve also sent me a new set of these inverters to review. So I’ll hopefully have that video within the next two weeks.
If they charged you a restocking fee for a "warranty" return i.e defective product that would be ILLEGAL as they can't prove otherwise. I would push hard on getting all your money back and or expose the scammy tactics of that company on video. I'm glad to see this as I was planning to go on a complete EG4 inverter and battery setup but after hearing about their support I'm gonna bite the bullet and spend a bit more on a better brand
I have received a full refund with an apology. And at this point they are scheduled to send me a new set of these inverters to review. I will hopefully be making that review video in just a couple weeks. They are still struggling in the support. But I’m hoping they are heading in the right direction.
MPP and EG4 come out of the same factory in China. I doubt they use different chips. What you are experiencing is common in all high frequency inverters. Flickering doesn't occur in low frequency inverters, at all. Add a transformer and the power output is much more stable. I've seen MPP inverters flicker, as well. It's the luck of the draw.
Flicking appears in basically all high frequency inverters at some point depending on the situations. With a heavy inductive load mine will flicker once. That’s to be expected. This wasn’t flickering. The lights were constantly strobing up and down non stop. Since this video signature solar has come out with a firmware update to address this problem. Apparently It was a hardware change the factory made without approval. It was conflicting with the firmware. Signature solar apologized and has refunded me in full. They are sending me a set of new inverters to review. So hopefully soon I’ll be posting an update video.

Total crap. And so many misleading different answers but like you said never can get and straight forward answer I’m burning breakers up and Jeopardizing appliances in my house because of this faulty garbage all in one unit I’m running
I completely agree. The EG4 6500 is junk. We’ve had issues with flickering since day one ( late October 2022) They don’t care and don’t have a fix . I trusted the reviews on some of these other TH-cam channels. Very disappointing. They must be getting paid t pedal this junk
Ian does in fact communicate. Actually called me to correct a statement and I was not even a customer. This business from SS flares up all over the internet. Not surprising, Ive had same treatment from GE, and Southern Motion chair manufacturers. Basically, we got your money, to hell with you. Maybe with videos like this, those companies will evaporate and we will be left with real service instead of emulating our communication and TV companies.
It wasn’t a fun experience for sure. Fortunately since then I was refunded in full, and I’ve had a lot of good communication with SS since then. I go over it all in my follow up review here. Eg4 6500ex follow up review. th-cam.com/video/3192QyqAsCg/w-d-xo.html
This is true. Signature solar has some custom upgrades they have requested from voltronic. Unfortunately it came with some side affects when the factor evidently made some changes without alerting SS. So it resulted in some conflicts between the firmware and hardware. SS has refunded me, and said they will be sending me a pair of these inverters to review.
It definitely wasn’t a fun experience. Since then though I have been refunded in Full with an apology. They have also sent me two new inverters to review. So I should be able to dealers the video soon. So keep an eye out for that coming up soon.
@@APatchworkCanvas my inverters arrive Monday. So I’ll have them on the wall soon. That way I can give you a better answer. This was a larger problem but they’ve come out with firmware fixes. Even if I can’t make the video right away I’ll try to get you an answer on comment as soon as I know something. I think you’ll probably be good to go with them. But I don’t want to say for sure till I’ve seen it myself.
@@GavinStoneDIY I’d really appreciate it! I’m putting panels on a new pole building that will go up towards the end of this month. The eg4 inverters seemed like a no brainer because of the higher pv voltage limit. I have two out buildings for panels, and want to keep the system as simple as possible.
Hold on, you're telling me that the 1st tier of tech support couldn't explain in exact detail why your lights were flashing, or if it specific components have been removed from the inverters? No way. So if you can't talk directly to the more advanced techs why not just go through whatever process to be able to talk to them? This sounds to me like to called up there, didn't get a solution from the people who do basic troubleshooting, took your toys and went home, and then made a video as if you've been wronged somehow? You could've just checked for continuity between ground and neutral to know if the screw was intact.
They were selling an inverter that they knew had these Issues. Yeah that did seem wrong. And I never did hear from tier 2 tech support. I’ve seen this experience play out on the forum also. I sent them info to go through the “process” and nothing happened. You could say I should have just waited a couple more weeks, days, minutes? That’s really hard to say because there isn’t a queue. Customer service didn’t know anything. And tech support didn’t respond to emails or calls. I suppose everyone has a different level of patience. Perhaps you would have just waited for the “process”. I’m glad for you. Anyway, since you seem heavily invested in the story, there is a silver lining. They apologized and have since refunded me in full. They sent someone to Taiwan and found an unauthorized hardware change that was conflicting with their firmware. They’ve come out with an update they believe will remedy most of these issues.
That’s super aggravating and funny thing is when you talk to signature solar they act like they’ve never heard of such a thing flickering lights what wow you must’ve done something wrong or you’re running super cheap lightbulbs funny how my grid power is more inconsistent than my inverter power and they run perfectly with grid power They want to charge my 40% restocking fee plus I pay for shipping Get out of here. I’m filing a dispute with my credit card company over this joke of a company
That’s probably the best route to take with it . Maybe the credit card company card sort it out. SS knows they have issues and they continue to push more products out. I made this video to warn people that there is potential issues. If it saves one person even a little money then it was worth making. Sorry you had to go through that mess man. It can be stressful.
@@GavinStoneDIY your going to be a big help to others I’m sure Sorry for the dumb question but what MPP are you running again. It’s not the split phase one correct
@@cowboymcq6711 they are single phase lv6548 units wired in parallel to provide split phase. So each unit provides one leg of power to supply your panel. Mpp does have units that are essentially the same as what you have also.

Really sorry to hear this. If you keep calling you may get half back. But maybe not. They have no reason to be helpful. They have a huge amount of new business every day. I left them a negative review on their website and they removed it. That’s why 3 stars is the lowest amount you’ll see on their site.

I have the flickering led light issue…SS response to me was that is normal with the 6500EX’s…no care at all!

Yeah mine have been running great. I’ve been wondering why you haven’t made more videos on your system. You had some good content.
Thanks for sharing this real-world testimonial between the MPP Solar and it's EG4 derivative. Definitely reconsidering platform for future set-up.
NUTS! Wow, I can not believe this is happening. I was told months ago by a good source that because of the chip shortage, they used off-brand chips and made them work with software patches. It looks like that didn't work. Great video, Gavin 👍
I think Will had his before the chip shortage

If possible, run, dedicated direct current wiring for the lighting and use LEDs straight, direct current to LEDs
This is true. But my issue was more then the lights.
My Growatt es500es flickers led all the time. I am leaning towards magnum low frequency inverters or a solark. I guess you can't expect much from under $1000 all in one
True. I’ve heard some people have a flicker with lower wattage solarks. They are hf as well. Although much better quality for sure.
I have two of the Growatt SPF 5000 ES 48v inverter transformers, with the Solar Edge midpoint tranformer, (needed to put out 120V, as these are 240V units), and I have had no problem, and all of my lights are LEDs.
Wow if I had known would have never bought them. Going to start mine up next week for the first time.
Just keep an eye on it. Running sensitive loads may be a bad idea with those inverters. If you haven’t unboxed them then I believe it’s just a 5% restocking fee and return shipping.
How has it been going after 5 months?
Yeah I did a follow up video. They made things right by me. I think I added some details in the description also.

I have money I had set aside to upgrade my little 12v system that runs my fridge and freezer when the power goes out, but maybe I'll just get rid of the pink rose colored shower in my master bath instead... :)
The LV’s I’ve been using have been great. However, signature solar has refunded me in full with an apology. And they’ve just sent me 2 new units to review. Stay tuned, I’m hoping to have a follow up video within a week or so.

@@motomike1197 you should be fine. The new pair of Eg4’s I have are working great. Let me know how it goes when you throw the switch.
Get Victron or Schneider XW6048 for your sensitive loads and leave those cheap inverters for large loads like stove, motors, heaters etc.
That sounds intriguing. I’ve never heard of them before.
Don't get the phases to much aut of balence or you will be in the dark
Where did you find the GSL for sale recently? My friend bought one a couple years back and I helped him set it up. I found out the GSL - sol-ark - deye connection when searching for an error code we were getting. The error code the inverter had was not listed in his GSL pdf manual that came with the inverter. Found it in the more detailed error code tables for sol-ark and Deye. I hadn’t seen GSL for sale for the last year or so.
Is amazing I run my 1,300 square feet on a 3000watt samlex except my 4 ton a/c
Not the PV. My SP6548 has the exact same strobing issues! Fighting with it for almost a year. Finally saying screw it and buying LV6548's like I should have originally. SunGold kept promising a fix and it never came.
Eg4 has fixed that issue. I just released the video. I suppose SunGoldPower may eventually capitalize on whatever they did to remedy the problem.
Anyone try the 370V version of the LV6548? Ian has them.
I wasn’t aware they were out yet. That’s awesome. I’ll have to keep my eyes out. Maybe I’ll text Ian and ask.
2 eg4 6500ex for sale $2k.
@@dexbad8857 $1,000
Possibly stupid question but did you verify they were set to 60hz instead of 50 (Manual says 60hz is default but mine were set to 50hz) this would cause your exact issue
I did verify that yes. I also thought it could be an issue with idle vs having loads. It strobed either way. The real eye opener was when tech support informed me they get calls about that problem all the time. I’ve read that people have scoped the sine wave output and it’s dirty.
Well that it for me. I consider buying them but not now
I couldn't be happier with my LV6548.
I'm planning to make a video soon on my setup. sorry your's did not work like it was supposed to
That’s great news. I hope they are able to eliminate the problem completely.
we have a mppt GK PIP with a ST5000
Just bought a SP6548 from sungoldpower.
Those have been hit and miss with problems. From what I’ve seen these issues have rippled down through the whole 6500 line of inverters. But hopefully they have worked it out. I know eg4 came up with a remedy for their problem.
Need to get a THD tester just assume a full sinewave inverter is going to be good.
yep this why i didn,t go with the EG4 batteries we went with SOK
I would go SOK or trophy batteries if I had to do it again yeah. I realize signature solar won’t honor any warranties I have on the batteries anyway.
How do I research the replacement of a CPAP so that it works with the eg4?
@@boydbros.3659 I don’t quite understand the question. The cpap is broken? Or you are wondering about a compatibly issue?
@@GavinStoneDIY - I see that you got the new EG4 Sol-Ark clone : ) Nice machine to be sure. I'll have to watch some of your other videos. Have a pleasant and productive week. -John
Oh man I had the same exact issue with the inverters tech support and customer service. 30k spent lesson learned. This company is trash.
I’ve seen people on the forums that support signature solar. But I think it’s because they never had a serious issue and needed assistance. So I think it really depends on what you purchase from there and the application.

I will hopefully be making that review video in just a couple weeks. They are still struggling in the support. But I’m hoping they are heading in the right direction.
@@GavinStoneDIY ok that's good to hear. I'll be looking forward to that review and hopefully it corrected the issue
Yeah. I mentioned my issues on the dyi solar forum and signature solar essentially says it was my fault.

Just because one makes them all don't mean they are the same. they made to what you ask them to make.
This is true. Signature solar has some custom upgrades they have requested from voltronic.
