      Why were you talking about your reading and golf habits? Nothing worse than an interview where the host is wasting valuable time(ironically!!) Speaking about themselves. Especially with obvious humble bragging. Hope this reads as a constructive criticism, I'm sure you'd feel the same watching an interview with someone you had interest in.

    I have alot of respect for Laird, I have been following him since I was a very young lad and he seems to have paved the way for modern day big-wave surfing.
    Extreme feats seem to often attract extreme personalities. I respect Laird and Kelly both alot because the value that they place on physical fitness, hence which is why these guys perform the way they do at their age.

    The military - we make our rack first thing in the morning because of discipline. It's the first thing that you must accomplish of the day. It gives you pride and encourages you to perform more positive tasks. If you can't handle a small mundane task, you would not be able to handle the major obstacles appropriately. When you are a military "operator" or "engineer" and fail in the mission of the day (and you do not die) at least you have a fresh rack to sleep in at your quarters.

    I agree with everything but the fiction. It fuels the brain with imagination, creativity and its a great release from the worries of the day. I find people who cut out fiction and entertainment to be (not always) boring, way too serious and have no sense of humor or sarcasm.

      Also a lot of good and useful information can be delivered in narrative form in a way that often isn't possible in other ways, plus it can help you to remember certain things. Good fictional novels are full of philosophy, psychology, allegory etc.

  • @trooper744
    @trooper744 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    We have very similar schedule and lifestyle, the best part is for me anyways, its not forced I enjoy doing it... I think though the putting down of reading fiction is kind of ridiculous.. you are reading period.. sparking the creative part of your brain is still winning... again comes down to preference. I used to feel "guilty" reading fiction instead of my usual self improvement books but there is a balance.

    • @BehindtheBrand
      @BehindtheBrand  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Agreed, fiction is a great source of inspiration, escape, relaxation and more. The point we were making is that we often feel guilty taking hours and hours in fiction because it feels indulgent compared to when we read non-fiction the feels more educational. This is why i personally like to consume my fiction in TV (30 min.) or movies (90 min.).

    3000 years of philosophy to come to..this...Human beings cold as machines obsessed with numbers,success and themselves. Bryan Eliott :"its a waste of my time to read unproductive..."Ahah and if tomorrow you die smashed by a car?Your lives seem to be so sad, i don envy you at all.Where did the poetry& the beauty go?

      adlabbio you might be missing my point, which is: I don’t read fiction because I feel guilty doing it...it feels like a waste of time-like a 5 hour game of golf. I consume my fiction via movies.

      Behind the Brand It’s visible and audible in the way you write and speak. Your (applied) vocabulary seems rather flat and unimaginative, simply because you don’t allow yourself to be influenced by creative works of writing that go beyond the factual world. So if you need more incentive than just “because it’s great” to start consuming more than just movies, here goes:
      1) It expands your vocabulary
      2) It trains cognitive functions like memory (you can’t forget what you just read) and producing visual imagery through words
      3) It allows you to improve your journalistic work by moving from regurgitating facts to sharing a compelling story
      4) Reading before bed time instead of watching a movie (especially on a mobile device) allows your brain to relax and regulate production of melatonin so that you can sleep more regularly
      Also, think of movies in terms of food. A movie is a ready-made meal, with highly refined ingredients. A Transformers movie is like a McDonald’s supersized meal with an overdose of sugar and salt, whereas a Meryl Streep movie may be a Caesar salad, but still with mayonnaise and awful croutons. A book will be much simpler, although 50 shades of grey will still be nothing more than a frankfurter (with curry but without a bun), but something by Shakespeare is a perfectly cooked wagyu beef steak with wild mushrooms and a seaweed salad. Why do you supersize the food for your brain while exercising your body? Would you like to be a driveling idiot when you’re eighty while you can still bench press 200lbs?

    "See rule 1".
    Rule 549:
    "Scented pearls will revatilise tired and worn out gym socks, and leave them smelling delightfully fresh."

      @@BehindtheBrand Yes sir! Laird seems like such a great guy. The guy is a warrior, you don't have to fight or be a war vet to see that in his eyes. He is a benevolent fierce protector who happens to surf for his livelihood. I'm a soon to be unknown pro mma cage fighter. This profile picture is for a silly & comedic effect. Lol
      If I'm successful, I wish to use the platform to speak life into us all. My sport environment is riddled with thuggery. I'd like to make a dent in this and promote a different message, especially to youth. Take care!

      it's fair to say it sounds that way but this is an interview about him and his story. In my experience most professional athletes like Laird and Gabby have to be laser focused on themselves...their fitness/food routines etc. to stay at the top. Think about Michael Phelps and his his training program...I'm sure nothing short of some limited family/friend time came between him and his workouts during his Olympic years.
