AG! is really a cool group and it's hard to pigeonhole them because they have such a huge variety in sounds. So I wouldn't say Pineapple Kryptonite is typical for them. If you want some heavier stuff from AG! (with guitars) you might want to check out "SEISHUN WO KIRISAKU HADO".
The hitchhiker is played by Money Mark, the former Beastie Boys co-conspirator. This was the first of a bunch of songs he co-wrote and produced with them. This song sprang from the girls riffing on a pineapple he happened to bring to the house they were renting. Look up their Coachella stuff; they do a James Brown cape routine during NAINAINAI. Just last night they finished their world tour with a sold-out show in LA. Their ship has pulled in.
AG! are primarily a vocal/dance group and they work with all sorts of musicians (especially since signing with 88 Rising), so the only consistent through line with their style are the personalities and vocal/dance skills. They are absolutely blowing up on global tours, their live shows are more like a rave. Songs like Tokyo Calling, Toryanse, Giri Giri, SEISHUN WO KIRISAKU HADO are all different. but fascinating. They are an experience. Their First Take version of Otona Blue is fun. There's a bunch of live fan footage that is bonkers fun.
@@PaleHorseShabuShabu Vocaloid is the only honest music. It admits to being synthetic ;) Every song has been autotuned for 50 years. Before that they would cheat in other ways. People want to be lied to. If you didn't autotune nobody would buy it. If you admit to autotune people also don't want to buy it. But anyone who thinks AG can sing and dance at the same time without some cheating is extremely naive. Nobody can do that. Atarashii Gakko is fantastic. I don't want them to stop dancing lol. I assume that they were using live autotune and a backing track when I saw them live in Seattle. I wouldn't want it any other way.
Personally I don't like the First Take version that much because they are effectively trapped at each of their microphones when a major part of their act and appeal is their coordinated dancing. Otona Blue is great on stage, but is somehow muted when they have to stand by their mics for most of the song. The Live on Thumva version from 2020 is better for a first time viewing th-cam.com/video/-yR1IBtixHY/w-d-xo.htmlsi=t3CMdZTild1iUzGN
@@tsunami-lightwave9395 Totally fair! I understand that opinion. I love their dance practice. But, I think that in this First Take they are very cleverly working around that with small things like mimic and doing clever moves.
I saw them in Chicago at the beginning of October, part 2 of their world tour this year (2024). Most shows this year have been sold out at 2000-5000 capacity venues. Second time I have seen them and it was even more amazing. I was the absolute luckiest person among the 5000 at this show: at one point they had their trademark socks off, and Suzuka tossed hers to the side and it landed right in my hand! Oh, and the whole set list was fire as well. 😁 Oh - and I dressed up as Money Mark from this video (an age appropriate costume, with the Area 51 sign, hat and overalls) for the VIP photo at the show. They all smiled and shouted "Money Mark! Money Mark!" That made my whole day even before I caught the sock.
They're great. If you check out some of their older music, there's some really nice Jazz fusion style stuff. 'Otona Blue' on First Take was really good as well.
Atarashii Gakko are a dance/vocal unit, so their visuals are at least as important to them as the music. Which can be quite varied. Musically, I like their earlier stuff where they worked with a jazz trio, for example Koi Geba - th-cam.com/video/ye5v9mOkDh8/w-d-xo.html If you want to see the full choreography, they have some one-take videos showing that, such as this one for Seishun Wo Kirisaku Hado - th-cam.com/video/7vxyNhcgnxw/w-d-xo.html And finally another fun one. Hanako is about a bathroom ghost - th-cam.com/video/IXfnrInr4xQ/w-d-xo.html
The guy walking down the road is long-time Beastie Boys collabarator, and, keyboard player, "Money Mark" Nishita. He's been working a lot with AG since they signed with 88 Rising.
Sugoi! Love MTH! But also AG!! I've seen them twice in the last year, including 10 days ago in D.C. They are one of the best live groups I've seen in decades. Arigatou! #AGcalling
I'm so glad you found your way to AG!! They started out as more of a dance group and maybe a comedy group than a vocal group, and have done quite a bit of variety and commercial work in Japan. But can they sing? Oh, yes. Yes, they can. Check out for instance this song from their show in San Francisco last month: "Atarashii Gakko- Essa Hoisa- The Warfield- San Francisco" (on TH-cam). Suzuka was in particularly fine voice that night, and, yes, perhaps edges into musical or even operatic belting while still maintaining that fundamental comedic tone. They are way more than just a novelty act.
Saw them twice in Chicago the past two years. Great live show. Similar with Babymetal, they are dancing and singing for a good hour to an hour and a half.

FUN FACT: This song was produced by Money Mark, who at some point worked with Beasty boys (AG are Beasty boys fans and actually have an Intergalactic cover, they say they are the Beasty girls): th-cam.com/video/eqfaQHsbgbE/w-d-xo.html&pp=ygUPYXRhcmFzaGlpIGdha2tv I'm not going to suggest one of the more famous songs because it was already done in other comments, I suggest an old live performance of Mayoeba toutoshi. AG distinguishes for being one of those rare groups that are better live than recorded, because you get to see their full choreographies, their charisma, their crazy energy, and how they love what they do (this is my favorite live performance beacuse you can also see how tired they are, and yet, they feed from the energy of the public and each other and they leave everything on that stage: th-cam.com/video/XqrNAnsWFQs/w-d-xo.html
Don't know if you can tell but been following and watching you guys for a while. I sincerely hope you do more AG! I'm from the Hanabie/BM/MTH part of your following but I hold a very special place in my heart for AG. I remember being very impressed by how different and wild they are back when they were still very "small". But they're seriously great. Definitely a unique "idol" band out there. Their choreographies and live concerts are just wild. Hope you keep looking at some of their stuff, Pineapple Kryptonite is kinda weird (but weirdly cool too) so I hope you give them more chances to have a better idea of what their sound is like ;).
Please watch the live version of this song "Pineapple Kryptonite" by Atarashii Gakko (AG). You will understand the recommendation better. The live rhythm is faster and there is a crazy reinterpretation! The official video is very well behaved. Live it is frenetic and drives the crowd crazy! 🙂🙂🤪🙂
As others note, they do all sorts of styles. Others have recommended - ATARASHII GAKKO! "SEISHUN WO KIRISAKU HADO" Special Choreography Video (I think you would enjoy this and their dancing is great in this one. More guitars, more vocal "stuff".) Or ATARASHII GAKKO! - OTONABLUE / THE FIRST TAKE (Fun to watch them, but a bit less dancing and a more mellow track.) Or basically anything. They are amazing. Gave those comments thumbs and adding my own comment for algorithm love.
"Otanablue" shows off their singing really well, First Take more so than the official music video. "Woo Go!" and "NaiNai" show off more of the group's style. all 3 are great songs "Tokyo Calling" is another great one that leans into the old school Godzilla movies 😂
The other aspect of AG! that I admire is that this is their idea, they created this concept in school, and they have known each other since middle school. This isn't a corporate idol group. Much like Band-Maid, these are young women with an original idea, and a set of goals and they are finding huge acceptance outside of Japan for creating an audience experience. There's a recent video on YT that goes through their history, it's quite good. th-cam.com/video/bigSDaFzscc/w-d-xo.html
Musically, there are better examples of AG no Leaders. But PK is a fun song/MV. "Ohtana Blue", "Giri Giri", or "Suki Lie" might make you more appreciative. Also, for fun you could try their After School Karaoke video. You get some KISS, some Plastic Love and the PK Remix. Thanks for the reaction!
Thanks for the reaction!! Indeed, they create amazing and unique choreographies for their songs, and the best way to appreciate them is live! Otonablue on the First Take is AMAZING
Too bad The First Take is a fraud.

Otanablue / First Take is the logical next thing to look at. But they have lots of never played gems. You need to do some digging.

Saw them this past Sunday. Paper pineapples were passed out before the show. The had guest performers, a local taiko group and the USC marching band.
They are very varied and entertaining. If you watch more of their videos you will probably like them more. Try Otonablue from first take, or Suki Lie.
