Andrew Dice Clay played a sexist, racist, homophobic character, and that was his schtick. Pinette's schtick was to make fun of himself and his shortcomings. He knew he was fat, he addresses that in his act. It's his timing and delivery that made people laugh, and in the end, that's what matters. I don't think Kinnison and Clay are funny, but I get why they are funny. I laugh at Carlin too, he was a tremendous joke teller who blazed a trail for comics around the world, but to say Pinette wasn't funny is just not true.
