Next time you've got one low to the ground like that try raising the front with the jacks, it'll make your life much easier.

A good idea for your trailer batteries: solar battery tenders. They aren't really great for long-term usage, but if it's sitting in the sun and used ~once a week, it may be enough to keep it topped up. Bonus points towards not letting the battery go flat, too. Longevity!

the only problem with Anderson plug to keep the trailer battery charged is that you then need a connector on every vehicle that is likely to tow the trailer .. given the ( usually ) sunny climate better idea might be a small solar panel on the battery / winch housing
You can buy a 12v to 15V converter very cheaply that will charge that battery even with the voltage drop on the trailer plug. Doesn't even need to be a hot wire, just run the tail lights when running.
Lets talk about how powerful Blue Steel is.. Keep in mind Ford always get the short end of the stick. This was impressive with a trailer and the off road wrecker on top. Great job Matt.
the trailer with th wrecker on top helped give more grip to the rear wheels because of the added weight, also more mass to pull on the motorhome ever tried to drive an empty bed truck on snow? terrible thing to do, a friend would load rocks just to have grip
Blue Steel is powerful but not in a league of its own for what it is. Hell my 4 cyl 5 speed Tacoma pulled plenty of Ram 2500s out of snow banks. I knew a guy who pulled 20,000lbs with a Ford ranger in the 90s. You can't go very fast and the truck doesn't like it, but it'll do it.
@imblackmagic1209 correct. I had a 98 chevy 3/4 ton 2wd pickup. I had 2 tractor inner tubes full of sand around the wheel wells every winter. I never got stuck, just because of the weight.
The beauty of bringing Blue Steel on the trailer is that the trailer allowed for a lower pull on the motor home than any of the rigs without hooking to the axle. Once again, Matt comes up with the best solution with the tools he has.
@@philb5593 Honestly without that weight on the rear axle I doubt it could have done it. You could hear the tires beginning to chirp and lose traction on the truck.

Matt, I've noticed how the small trailer puts a big strain on getting over big rocks. What if you put a smaller tire in front of the other tires, kinda like the Bobbie. Which should make it easier for you.
I was so impressed at the RV recovery in the driveway. That looked so soft and buried and I was thinking there was no way blue steel was gonna pull that out like it did. I would have bet money that your plan would fail, even tho I respect your experience. I just could not see it. I love being wrong, because it teaches me new things. Databyter
That trailer axle has a habit of bending offroad. Imagine a smaller wheel up in the air in front of the wheel that keeps bending. That way any big obstacle/step wouldn't hit the main wheel square and get hung up but could roll off the smaller wheel.
Goat head thorns legit could have been the inspiration for medieval caltrops. Each spike can be up to around 10mm long, and they contain a mild poison that causes a burning sensation.
Boy do I remember goatheads from my days bicycling on dirt roads in Albuquerque as a kid. This was before tuffys and sealants. My bike shop guy told me to take an old inner tube, open it up on the inner circumference and wrap it around the new tube to prevent more flats. That helped but some of the bigger goatheads still got through.

I no longer have to worry about them as when the grass came up no grass burrs anymore.
Every year at the sand dunes, I pull several coaches out. One thing that I always do is use the leveling jacks to lift it up, push sand/dirt back in the hole, then tow it out. It amazes me how many don't think about using their jacks like that.

Sandburs or sand spurs (Cenchrus spinifex cav) are totally different that goat heads (Tribulus terrestris). Sandburs are grassy weeds and the burrs grow on a stalk. Goatheads grow on a creeping vine and grow everywhere in the southwest where the soil has been disturbed. A single goat head plant can grow into a mat covering a large area. I've seen a single goat head plant over 12 feet in diameter. Each goathead seed pod actually contains 3-4 individual seeds.
Hey, I have an idea: Use some Anderson connectors on the winch and another dangling in the back of the banana and MORRvair. Then you can hook up any battery you might have without the silly clamps, or use the vehicle battery *when* you forget a jump box. Or do it MORR style and get some super-long jumper cables and just go from starter battery of vehicle back to the winch. I know, I know. It just came to me.
Lizzie is such a cute girl with skills. She’s much like my own daughter her age: she can tool with the best of men, and look good doing it. Her husband is a lucky man.
I was watching Matt's video in a Canadian Tire parking lot. A guy wondered over and complimented my van. We started talking about camping in trucks and vans and driving off road. I mentioned I was watching a guy do offroad recoveries. And he looks at me and goes "Matt?" LOL. He says. I watch him all the time and just got back from a camping trip in Sand Hollow.
A nice kit to keep handy is "exhaust bladder jack" not sure what they really are called. We used them a lot here on busses. Clamp it on to an exhaust, run the engine for a while and et voila, you have an air filled bladder that can be used anywhere. :)
i like the dynamic between Tom and Jake, but the better 'couple' to watch between all the MORR crew is Matt and Tom. its so obvious that they have known each other for quite some time but they seem so comfortable around each other that it often goes without saying that they know what each other is thinking. for sure there are so many characters in MORR, and probably one of the more popular of those has to be Lizzy. ive been driving for over 40 years but honestly this young lady would drive circles around me, in just about any vehicle on the road! please keep up the good work guys, this is by far the best recovery channel on youtube, without a shadow of a doubt!
Great video! Since it’s so sunny there and I think the trailer is stored outside, you should consider one of the solar battery maintainers. Worked great on our camper.
That made blue steel look like a complete beast, it makes sense it wasn't off road pulling, so it makes sense that a bonafide pick up would do well at pulling while on pavement.
suggestion....now the Heavy Wrecker has a compressor, would bringing heavy lift air bags be advantages? lift vehicle, once lifetd, winch forward slowly, rolling air bags, then when get clear of holes, deflate, then pull out? would that work? One of the things I like about Tom, he constantly says "we" he grasps they a team, a group...
Goatherds were a curse when I was a kid back in the 50’s. They were all over and ruined a lot of bike tires. We were constantly patching tubes. And you really knew it when you stepped on one in bare feet. They hurt going in and especially when being pulled out.
🤔 Don't need Anderson cables.🥳 They make charge controllers to keep on-trailer batteries charged that work off the standard 7 pin off the truck. Look into them.. Way easier.👍
Get a 20-30 watt solar trickle charger on that trailer winch battery. Should be plenty to keep it topped off between jobs and should be pretty small/cheap.
With the amount of sun you should use a solar trickle down charger. We use them for the electric brakes on our trailers in Australia and for our excavator's and bobcat, watercart etc that are parked up for long periods without use. Saves a lot of mauckinga round with machine batteries etc. It is cheap and easily installed by most auto electricians or wiring guys.
Also, it may come as a surprise, but many motor homes aren't built well enough to move much. 1 mile of wear on a car is like 20 miles of wear on a motor home, maybe. Imagine hanging cabinets with staples into upholstered foam board type quality, but everywhere.
Where I live there are tons of goatheads where I live. I've even had one go through my shoe and stab me in the bottom of my foot! They hurt sometimes too. You have my condolences Matt.
Tom if you don't fix the charging system right now you will forget or you can get a nice long set of jumper cables to go front the front to the back and do it that way.
Us aussies call our version of goatheads bindis and it grows everywhere (like truly everywhere) and will get so bad in places that when I tried bike riding my tire popped 3 times in 10kms
One thing about the military is you never seem to be short of personnel to do a recovery. Not sure how many times our FAV (now DPV) were in a bind and we would just lift and push them out of their predicament. Contrary to what seems normal, the smaller the trailer or shorter the wheelbase the more adjustment that is needed. Hence the further your wheels are back the easier it is to steer a trailer. Nice work guys.

Your trailer plug has a 12 volt constant. For your trailer brake set up. Use that to charge the winch batt
You did really well there Tom. Good recoveries, thanks for the video.
Great Job Tom..
Matt your are out of this world!!!!!!!!!!!! You literally lay on a bed of thorns in line of work and never even winced!!! God bless you Sir!!!
Lizzy is Cool, But the weather is "ALWAYS better" when Ed tells it. You know its gonna be a good day. 👍 this applause is for the crowd Favorite Ed 👏 👏
Rollers on the back of the off road trailer. Already have the holes 👍
A nice kit to keep handy is "exhaust bladder jack" not sure what they really are called. We used them a lot here on busses. Clamp it on to an exhaust, run the engine for a while and et voila, you have an air filled bladder that can be used anywhere. :)
I love your videos! You are great to watch while playing snowrunner
Matt you would make a great teacher. The way you explained to Lizzie what you wanted her to do was to perfection
Good morning and thumbs UP! 👍
i like the dynamic between Tom and Jake, but the better 'couple' to watch between all the MORR crew is Matt and Tom. its so obvious that they have known each other for quite some time but they seem so comfortable around each other that it often goes without saying that they know what each other is thinking. for sure there are so many characters in MORR, and probably one of the more popular of those has to be Lizzy. ive been driving for over 40 years but honestly this young lady would drive circles around me, in just about any vehicle on the road!
please keep up the good work guys, this is by far the best recovery channel on youtube, without a shadow of a doubt!
A tow hook like on your rollback would be handy
A mixture of recovery this is awesome. Already saw Blue Steel up at Robbies
Oh wow Lizzy is on a recovery. We don't see this much anymore.
Yeah. I was sad when it was announced she was going part time. But it's awesome she's doing so many things with her husband now.
Great video! Since it’s so sunny there and I think the trailer is stored outside, you should consider one of the solar battery maintainers. Worked great on our camper.
Time to build a concrete pad for that rv, imo.
That made blue steel look like a complete beast, it makes sense it wasn't off road pulling, so it makes sense that a bonafide pick up would do well at pulling while on pavement.
Blue steel is REALLY squatting
suggestion....now the Heavy Wrecker has a compressor, would bringing heavy lift air bags be advantages? lift vehicle, once lifetd, winch forward slowly, rolling air bags, then when get clear of holes, deflate, then pull out? would that work?
One of the things I like about Tom, he constantly says "we" he grasps they a team, a group...
Man, TomTom seems to have grown so much. It has been awesome to watch.
Goatherds were a curse when I was a kid back in the 50’s. They were all over and ruined a lot of bike tires. We were constantly patching tubes. And you really knew it when you stepped on one in bare feet. They hurt going in and especially when being pulled out.
lizzy= 10 outta 10
Easy there old fella, get your hand off it.
🤔 Don't need Anderson cables.🥳 They make charge controllers to keep on-trailer batteries charged that work off the standard 7 pin off the truck. Look into them.. Way easier.👍
You guys should also install some air bags in the suspension.
That trailer does rock! That was real good driving, Tom. Too bad that was all manufactured, because it looked seriously professional. hahahaha
Matt's off road recovery Team is Awesome , good job Lizzy 👀🥰💯👀💯🥰💯💯💯🥰🥰💯💯🥰🥰
I'm watching some old recoveries i missed for some reason :) ... AND I was pleasantly surprised to see LIzzy!! with the weather report! :)
Tom if you don't fix the charging system right now you will forget or you can get a nice long set of jumper cables to go front the front to the back and do it that way.
Great show!! Those solar battery maintainers work exilente'
Vary awesome. Nice job on getting the motorhome unstuck from sinking ground area. Them ATVS always get stuck or get damage too.
Us aussies call our version of goatheads bindis and it grows everywhere (like truly everywhere) and will get so bad in places that when I tried bike riding my tire popped 3 times in 10kms
Great job Tom...excellent addition to Matt's crew...Lizzy and Jake...cool.
Forgot it was MORR Wednesday
Cheers all of you, keep up the fantastic work
People must be so relieved to see you when you arrive.
I think that was one of the better backing up jobs I have seen!
Even if it took half a dozen tries😉
