Matt, you have found absolute gold in Tom. He is so very awesome and wholesome. His knowledge is unreal and his willingness to do the dirty jobs and never complain is amazing.
It’s pretty effing annoying when Karen’s feel the need to comment “omg your Dog… it’s PANTING, you’re killing it!” 😂😤🙄. Have they nothing better to do?
For the battery charging: I'd either add a 7-pin hitch connector or a custom power feed from the vehicle's 12v system. The solar charging is a good idea but it's not going to push a lot of amps unless you get a fairly large panel. So if it gets low because it's doing a bunch of jobs you might run it down and not be able to charge it fast enough. Plus you guys thrash those trailers around and a fragile glass panel will probably end up being a casualty.
A 7 pin connector will not carry much more than 10Amps. But large wires (at leat 6ga) conncted to a 50A Anderson plug would supply enough amps top keep the battery full charge. Assuming the alternator can supply the amount of current.

Have you guys ever considered running large cable (8ag+) and an Anderson Plug to the back of yoru vehicles to charge the trailers. It's very common here in Australia, I know a winch consumes more power than that will provide however the trailer battery will work like a large capacitor in the system to discharge and charge again when travelling.
Mornin' from the PA Appalachians 👍 I loved that quick knight rider segment. Was one of my favorite shows growing up along with The Dukes Of Hazzard and McGyver.
@MatsOffRoadRecovery If you are running a 7 pin trailer connector, there is one pin that is a straight power lead. You can run, fused of course, a wire to the trailer battery and as long as you have a common chassis ground on that battery, it should charge as the engine is running.
@@stargazer7644 exactly, just a 12v battery charger. Max charge rate of 5A - 10A or something (whatever the connector or wiring can handle.... ). Although their solar panel idea may do a better job since it can slow charge while the trailer sits unused and actually top it off over time, Rather than only charging when a vehicle is running, since the winch does pull a LOT of power from a battery. Both methods would benefit from a charge after heavy use, which is easier said than done at a businesses.

Looks like you need a shop gofer to keep the rigs gasses up, battery charged, tire pressure maintained, rigging kept in stock and in working order, etc. Good to see Ed back.
Good to see Ed. Some people would complain if you gave them a $100 dollar bill that was wrinkled. When I watch your dogs I see nothing but happy dogs doing what they like.
Glad to see Ed back on the trail with the team. Just a thought maybe Ed should keep Mat full of gas for his recovery’s. Just a amazing show, thank you all for sharing
Don't do that, the wires for the lights aren't made to charge a battery and you'll blow the fuse constantly. You need a bigger wire cross section or your car has a good chance to go up in flames if you are stupid enough to replace the blown original fuse with a bigger one.
So happy to see Ed back out on a recovery! That was an awesome idea to keep the trailer on the hitch! I most likely would have been scratching my head and calling for help. Great recoveries
Hi Ed! Soooo awesome to see you back again, I missed you sir. BTW, your Golden Nugget and the (Golden) Rokon are the most beautiful and most valuable vehicles on this planet because they were restored by the most wonderful loving people that love you. Hugs from Belgium!
I love the connection between the vehicle and the trailer! I love watching the videos, too. I watch for the dogs running in the desert. They are so happy. I have had similar trouble with nosey people. My dogs like to dig a hole, lay in it, and let the snow cover them. We have a 4' x 8' dog house with heated water and all the food they can eat. They are self-feeders. Someone called animal control. They came out to make sure the animals were being cared for. The officer said it was one of the better layouts she had ever seen. We were given a clean bill. I just wish people would mind their own business.
As with all the recovery guys out there, you get your share of difficulties, and you handle it well. Hats off to your creativity. A little tip to make your life easier, Tom will understand this: Put a high current diode between the tail light wire and the battery to keep it charged while you are traveling. OR you could pull an independent wire from your trailer connector that has switched power from the ignition. No messing with solar panels that will get broken or beat up during rescues. All your vehicles should have the same connector anyway so it a win - win for any vehicle and any trailer with a winch. Be well my friends and keep us awestruck with your talent.
Had a thought in regards to the trailer charging situation. Though a solar charger would work, something I’ve used is the same on my wrecker, is the rear jump lead points. A large two-prong receptacle that could terminate either directly on the winch and be connected / disconnected with the trailer, or to a separate battery on the trailer. Our service truck has something similar as we have a winch on a hitch mount that we can swap from front to rear, and still have power. Hope this helps
It’s good to see Ed back in action, we’ve missed him ! It is also just a shame some folks think your illiterate in the care of your dogs when it’s obvious your animals love their job as much as you do yours.

For charging the battery for the winch on a trailer. Look up an Anderson plug. You can run a line from the truck battery to the rear bumper, then have a jumper from the trailer to the truck. We use them on dump trailers at work.

It's not about running the winch from the 7-pin, it's about charging the battery back up during the long drives in-and-out during the recoveries.

Both methods would benefit from a charge after heavy use, which is easier said than done at a businesses.
Welcome back ED...missed ya. Its sure good to see that your humor level stays hi even when its very hot and things break, Well done.
Great to see Ed on another recovery!!! Tom Tom really brings a lot to the show! Hope all of you have a great Fathers day weekend and get a chance to relax!
Great to see Ed back on jobs! Y’all take great care of Peanut she looks super happy. I wish my dog liked to run beside the truck when we are wheeling. She gets freaked out that she’s gonna be left behind😢.
Afternoon all from the Uk.
Nice to see Ed back out again and taking care of his neck.
Great video
it's very nice to see Ed back out on rescues, keep up the good work.
Wow they finally got something to secure the ramps!
If you were to ask Peanut, she'd say she is having the time of her life !!! No doubt that the MORR team look after their dogs very well.
Great to see Ed back out. You guys have a good day and get some rest.
Good to see ed out on a recovery, must b feeling better. Missed u ed !!!!!
Good to see Ed back out on recoveries, candy cane and all!
It was great seeing Ed out in the field. 🎉
Happy to see Ed with you guys again, and yes panting is the way dogs cool down.
Glad to see Ed back on the trail with the team.
Just a thought maybe Ed should keep Mat full of gas for his recovery’s. Just a amazing show, thank you all for sharing
How come you don't wire the trailer battery into the running lights on the trailer so that its charging whenever its plugged into a vehicle?
That was my first thought as well. Is it too practical for Matt? 🙂
Not a good idea!
I tried it once and blew my fuses, put in heavier fuses, and melted my wiring.
Use a dedicated wire.
Don't do that, the wires for the lights aren't made to charge a battery and you'll blow the fuse constantly.
You need a bigger wire cross section or your car has a good chance to go up in flames if you are stupid enough to replace the blown original fuse with a bigger one.
Because as soon as you hit the winch remote you'll blow the fuses.
Hey Ed! Great to hear your weather reports again! Take care and heal well Sir!
Keep up the amazing recovery’s and bringing us along.
🙏❤️😎🤙🛻💨
Welcome back Ed, you’re a great addition to each recovery!
It’s great to see Ed back on a recovery!
Man it feels like old times with Ed on the recovery
Real Good to see Ed Back !!!
Makes my day seeing a new video pop up! Thanks Matt.
Thanks for coming along Ed! We enjoy it!
Oh my gosh so good to see Ed back on duty in the shotgun seat 🙂
Glad to get some time with Ed!
These Wednesday uploads make my week a bit more bearable! Thanks Matt and Team! 🇺🇸🚜
It’s good to see Ed back in action, we’ve missed him ! It is also just a shame some folks think your illiterate in the care of your dogs when it’s obvious your animals love their job as much as you do yours.
I MISS THESE KIND OF VIDEOS
There are plenty of other channels that build stuff.
I like to see you do recoveries with your friends.
It makes me wish that I had a job that looks that cool and seems like it would be that nice.
Good to see you Ed !!!!!
Good M👀Rning everybody and thumbs UP to Matt and crew!👍
😉
Another enjoyable video from Team MORR! Good to see Ed back on the trails! Please ask him where we can get one of those "smoking candy canes"! Asking for a friend! LOL!
For charging the battery for the winch on a trailer. Look up an Anderson plug. You can run a line from the truck battery to the rear bumper, then have a jumper from the trailer to the truck.
We use them on dump trailers at work.
Why not add a remote winch hook up to your trucks along with the battery and it can charge off the trucks alternator while driving
