Color me shocked (and thankful)! I came here after trying to do a simple RAM upgrade by adding a new 16GB RAM stick to my Lenovo tower PC to bring it up to 32 GB. I have done this dozens of times on other PCs for myself and others with no issues. This time, however, the new memory card caused total boot failure with beeping and flashing error lights. Could not even get into BIOS.
I reseated the new RAM module with the same result. I swapped the old and new RAM in the original slot and the new RAM worked perfectly. I swapped slots with the old and new RAM with both plugged and hard fail again. At this point, I started searching for help and found this video. It was concise and well done but I thought it was redundant to what I had already done.
Then I read the comments and person after person reported that the compressed air fixed the problem. Being the "wise, old" person that I am, I discarded this info since this PC is very clean and I have NEVER had dust cause a RAM slot failure in almost 40 years of PC build and repair work. BUT, I am not totally STUPID and I am capable of learning so I thought maybe it's worth a try. I actually did not have a compressed air can but used a camera lens air bulb to puff some air into the slot. To my amazement, this simple procedure did fix the issue. There must have been the tiniest spec of dust in that 2nd slot and it caused the error even after multiple plugging and replugging.
Wow! Thanks for taking the time to post this video and teach an old dog a new trick.

If you’ve told one lie, stolen anything, or lusted (which is adultery of the heart), you’ll be found guilty on Judgment Day and end up in Hell. But there’s good news: Though we broke God’s Law, Jesus, the prophesied Messiah, perfectly kept the Law, fulfilling all righteousness. He paid the fine for sinners ( that we could never pay ) by suffering and dying on the cross-absorbing the wrath of God that we deserve. “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.” Then Jesus rose from the dead and was seen by hundreds of eyewitnesses. I had the same issue when I went from 16 to 32gb of ram. Take your CMOS battery out and hold down the power button to your PC for about a minute or so. That, or bridge the two pins with something metal like a screwdriver. With all sticks of RAM installed, put the CMOS battery back in, and start it.
    This fixed my issue.
    OR
Try to disable the XMP in bios using the old sticks, then install the new Sticks, then re-enable XMP.

Try looking into the settings for the RAM in the BIOS, if you can get to it. If not, try resetting the CMOS (you take the coin battery out of the board temporarily and then add it back, I don't have a tutorial on this yet but you can look it up)

    • @Torqcx

@@AyCartii If after a RAM installation, your computer started beeping/looping/failing to boot, that means something's wrong, either at least one of the modules and/or slots are bad, typically.
In the BIOS, though, underneath wherever the RAM settings are, you can check the timings and speeds it is set to. Make sure they're the same as your RAM's manufacturer's specifications. If they're different, this can lead to boot failures.

@@G-DizzleDon Try clearing the CMOS, this is done on the physical board itself which manually resets the BIOS's settings and preferences back to default. After doing so, try again with just one module of RAM at a time. Very likely it's an issue with either the RAM modules or the slots they're in. If you've already blew out the slots for dust, reseated the modules, and reset the CMOS on the motherboard, there unfortunately isn't much left to do except troubleshoot whether it's the modules' or slots' fault. If any of the modules went bad, replacing them should solve the problem. If it's any of the slots, the motherboard would need to be replaced if you were otherwise unable to increase your RAM capacity with the one you currently have.

Try the modules one-at-a-time in each individual slot; if, in no matter what configuration any of them are in, the PC still fails to boot, that means either the motherboard is not compatible with those modules or they both happen to be faulty (though the latter is unlikely).

I still don't know WHY that worked, or why aren't any of the tutorials covering that trick. Sure, I hadn't secured the new sticks properly the first time, but after I had, it still wouldn't work before forcing it to BIOS. So much for the practicality of PC building 🙄. My advice, before upgrading or changing ram, set bios to default or reset the bios. Then turn off psu. Pull cmos battery. Pull the ram. Insert cmos battery. Insert 1 ram. Turn on psu. Go to bios. Set as default again. Turn off back. Then install the rest of ram. This is the safest way i can give. Because previous ram will left some memory. That is why some case it wont boot if we change the ram. The pc will be trap in loop. Make sure reset everything first.

Start by resetting the CMOS on your motherboard (I currently don't have a video on this but there are plenty of tutorials you can look up).

I just wanted to upgrade my laptop ram to 8gb , I previously had a 4gb ram module and got an additional 4gb one. but the laptop is stuck in a boot loop.I tried everything nothing works. here's what i tried: 1) the hard reset 2) the cmos clearing 3) changing the slots 4) trying just one at a time and in different slots 5) cleaning up the motherboard and everything . yet still stuck . anyone got any advice ? thanks

What if my pc is 1week old, and now not booting and show red dram light ?

Start by removing the RAM and cleaning the slots. If, after re-insertion, your system still doesn't boot up, clear the CMOS (I currently don't have a video on the topic but there are plenty you can watch here on TH-cam on how to do that), and try booting up again. If none of that solves the problem, troubleshoot each slot and each module, one-at-a-time, to determine whether any of the slots or modules went bad.

I need big help, so I took out my ram stick to see what brand it was then after about 10 minutes put it back in started my pc but all that happened is it spun up, didn’t boot, then the fans for the case and cpu stopped. Please Help.

Try blowing out the slot either with compressed air or your own breath, some dust or debris may have found its way in there.

@@Torqcx Update: Turns out I stuffed up the ram as I didn’t use gloves to take it out, not to worry though I was planning to get two sticks of 16 gb ram anyway.

Try clearing the CMOS, reseat all the RAM modules and try again.

@@Torqcx I was able to get it, instead of where the old ram sticks were, they needed to be in the other two slots. Which is weird because my pc booted up when the ram sticks were placed in the slots where the old ram was. It was when I restarted it that caused the issue. Now everything is working fine thanks for the video and the help and the fast reply :)

I’m still stuck none of my 3 diffrent sticks work in any of the spots… I have a z170-ar mother board

If after resetting the CMOS you still have no luck, with any module in any slot, the motherboard may be defective. Unfortunately there isn't much you can do other than replace the board, in that scenario.
