  • We took a drive up to Austin Tx to Decker lake on the search for some big buffalo carp. Needless to say we were not disappointed, as the action was almost non stop all day. We brought in over 20 fish on the day, all of which were safely released. Biggest fish was right around 40 pounds. We had an awesome day of fishing. Last video of 2022 & can't wait to see what we get into in 2023!

    Congrats on the buffs, please consider buying an unhooking mat to protect these gems when on the bank

      Yes you can get a landing mat or some guys use yoga mats either one would be better then laying them on the rocks gotta practice good carp care.

    Bro what hook and size did you use?

    • @Dunnoutdoors

      They’re like size 2 hooks on the pre rigged hair rigs from Amazon. You can get a big pack of them that comes with a variety of hook sizes.

    Adjust your drag damn 🤣
    Good catches though

    • @Dunnoutdoors

      Adjust it higher or lower? But thanks for watching. I usually dial my drag in depending on what I’m fishing for. But I tend to leave it looser than usual when buff fishing because if the drag is too tight, it can cause stress on the hair rig to break & as well as pulling the hook from the fishes mouth. Too tight is bad because when the fish wants to go on a run & it’s too tight, you risk something going wrong. If you wanna horse them in ok, but I like to let the fish run when it wants too. And not take too much of a risk losing the fish.

    What park is this how do you get to that spot?

    • @Dunnoutdoors

      It’s decker lake/Walter E long. They have a public park you pay at the front for the day. It’s right outside of Austin. I think they open around 7-8am

    Nice buffs! It is real corn that you’re using on the hair rig or is it fake? I tried using real corn on my hair rig but it just falls apart and cant seem to stay on.

    • @Dunnoutdoors

      I do use the artificial corn, I usually put like one or two of the artificial on the rig & then several real pieces of corn. The key is to have the needle, you can Pierce the reel corn in the middle of the kernel & slide it off onto the hair rig using the needle tool. It doesn’t stay on as long, but as long as you don’t cast it off it should stay on long enough to get bites. I also put some on the hook. I’ll do a video soon of how I do my setup to help out. 👍🏽😎

    Do you use a leader or straight braid?

    • @Dunnoutdoors

      It’s actually called a hair rig. You can either make them yourself or buy them premade. It’s basically a leader made of braided line.

    How heavy were your rods and line?

    • @Dunnoutdoors

      I had an 8’ and 9’ in this video that were like medium heavy action. Since then I’ve upgraded to a higher end carp rod. But as long as it’s not too stiff of a rod, it will work fine. And I use 40lb braid for these fish.
