  • We take the popular Century Arms Canik TP9 SF pistol out and run it through the Gauntlet. How does it stack up as compared to other handguns we've run through the same test? Yes said "SA" in the video because I'm a dummy.

    I recently bought a Canik TP9SF in Desert Tan finish. I absolutely LOVE this pistol! Great price point, better trigger than a stock Glock (IMO), it looks damn cool, and has some nice specs from the factory! I'm hoping to see more aftermarket parts become available for this gun!

    Very interesting and well conducted test, as usual! I have an original first generation Canik TP9 and I still love it!
    Have been carrying and shooting it for a couple of years now. I also and operate some more expensive handguns, so my choice of it is more personal preference, than economic necessity.

    Regurdless of the test i highly doubt that i will ever have to use my gun with mud, sand, ect on it so overall the canik is a good gun and has much higher quality than its worth so 🤷🏾‍♂️

    The test at the end with the water drying was the best part!
    The culmination of friction added from the water and drying off really makes a difference. I don't think we always realize how much CLP or any other lube penetrates into the pores of the metal to provide a slick surface.

    I always give pause to these kinds of tests. I think a lot of it is just luck of the draw. If a particle gets into the wrong place, any gun will stop working. It is entertaining though.

    • @astang1072

      Very true. But some pistols have clearly been shown to tolerate dirt and debris more than others over the years

    • @markshul03
      @markshul03 7 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      I agree 100% Just like with the Vp9. There is a place on the slide where there is a cutout on nearly all striker fired pistols. It relieves an ear on the trigger bar and works as an out-of-battery safety and disconnects the trigger. If that cutout gets filled with mud, the trigger is ultimately disconnected and thats what happened here. The same with the Vp9. Like is said this design carries over on a ton of pistols that he's tested but we haven't seen it happen to very many of them. This goes to show its a chance of luck that this happens to these guns and any gun at any moment is susceptible to it.

    You don't seem very enthused in this video. It must be boring and repetitive to keep doing these test. What you are doing though is highly important to us gunners in a big way! Just like tnoutdoors9 and shootingthebull410 did for bullet technology you are doing for gun reliability. From myself and thousands of others we thank you for doing something so important for the world of self defense.

    Really surprised by this test... I've put over a 1,000 rounds through mine and its been flawless. I rarely clean it and have tried all different kinds of ammo, these buggers just eat everything. High quality and have an excellent trigger. One of the nicest I've ever felt. You can't beat them for the value I paid $350 for mine. This is my bedside table gun and would trust my life to it. Don't sell this thing short unless you plan on dropping it in a swamp...

      Just watch a Glock torture test since it’s copy of their design the results should be fairly similar... S&W even lost a court case and owe Glock royalties on every SD9VE and SD40VE they sold/sell since the mid 90s

    • @joes.7536
      @joes.7536 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I think the sd40ve would do better. Only because the sd9ve is pretty tightly sprung. My friend has one and the rounds just kind of fall out. Unless he's firing hot ammo. Not a real powerful ejection. The sd40ve uses the same recoil spring. So it has a lot more slide velocity and can overcome dirt and grime in the action more easily imo.

    • @silentbob267
      @silentbob267 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'd like to 2nd this motion. It seems as though the CLP washes away very quickly when fully immersed in water. At that point it's more of a test of which gun can run with only water for lubrication while being subjected to sand, dirt, and mud. Most guns are designed to run with a lower coefficient of friction provided by some sort of lube and when you run them completely dry or with just water it can raise the coefficient of friction enough that it's outside the tolerance range for reliable function even before adding sand, dirt, and mud. I think I'd prefer to see an oil type lube that could hold up through these tests because I believe it would be more representative of what most people use but with the repeated water submersion a grease might be required to make it all of the way through the test.

    I noticed that, right before the mud test, you place the magazine on top of the center blue barrel, which has a lot of dirt/mud/leaves on it, before inserting it into the gun. The previous tests, with the dirt, and with the sand, you pick up the mag off the top of the far right barrel, which is much cleaner by comparison. Perhaps that played a part in the guns failure during the mud test?

    I really like this gun. You should have ran it through the gauntlet again after rinsing it. Consistency is a talking point of yours quite often. I think a lot of people want to see this gun do better. Because of how affordable it is compared to the competition, it deserves another chance. Thanks for the video.

    I had a feeling going into battery would be a failure point for these, the recoil spring on mine seems on the weaker end. That said I've had zero malfunctions since I bought the thing a few years ago. The fit and finish of the gun is also amazing for the price, with almost no tooling marks even on the inside of mine. Definitely one of the best guns out there if not the best at its price point.

      I have watched another channels doing similar tests to the TP9SF, and yes, it is not that friendly with heavy dirty mud, sand, etc.
      (BTW, this model is the equivalent of the Glock 17).
      If you are not in a special mission in the middle of a muddy jungle environment, I shouldn't be worry about it. Keep clean and lubed your gun, like any other firearms, and you'll be ok.
      I fired this pistol at 7 yards with an interval about a second between shots, and my group was about 1 1/2 ". At 25 yards was about 5" group at the same speed. No failure so far since day 1.
      I personally carry Glock 19, Gen 4. But the TP9SF will be my back up after the Glock.
      Canik also makes the Elite version, equivalent of the Glock 19. I do not have one yet 😊. Some day I will try that one too.

I've long believed that getting otherwise-liberal people into guns or at least showing them guns and gun owners aren't what they've been lead to believe is part of how we secure the future of our 2A rights. We can agree to disagree about other issues but there's no reason liberals can't/shouldn't have guns and for every one that does it helps undercut the political momentum of those who DO seek to take guns from us!
