its dope to see the generation gap between the two; and how 40 has remained relevant throughout the shifting scenes, and culture. What was a big takeaway for me was how 40 hinted the difference between tumblr and ig is that during tumblr we posted our personalities, and, now, we post our lifestyles - which if you lived it, is a total shift in perspective and approach. if youre in your late 20s you know exactly what hes talking about, and in a way thrown aback by how quickly culture shifts, because Tumblr, Cudi, and 40oz hats' seems like it was yesterday. Whats even more interesting is that the interviewer is probably around future legends right now without realizing it, because theres nothing truer in this interview than when 40 mentioned those kids who run around the city doing it off the love eventually get promoted or hired by bigger agencies simply by their very participation and knowledge of the culture they ironically build and participate in. It seems to me this happens every 4-5 years. Those who last, and find ways to reinvent themselves like 40 see the scene transition, along with the people, like how J Cole rapped about. In my experience there are very few people who can sustain relevancy and social capital throughout scenes and social network migrating; and in a such a way where youre enjoying life; because after a while, you grow, and priorities change; and if you last long enough to create a system where you can mastermind and continue to feed and eat with the culture - it can feel like being 50 around 15 year olds, while your own generation grows and gets degrees, and such. it seems like 40 is the exception because of his ability to maintain relationships and grow with those who continue to bloom. Dope interview.
