Iam retiring in August from massachusetts state police with 26 years in...with a hefty retirement plan. Thanks for all your vids. you made my mind up.....
Most of the police/firefighters pensions in the US max out at 75% of your final salary. California is boss…. they max out at 90% percent after completion of 30 years with and average pension salary of 100k/ year. The cost of living increases for some retirees are incredibly generous also. Congrats on receiving your pension.

I have been living in London for the last 36 years, although I was born in the Philippines but before I planned to go back home for good I built a house in cavite and purchased some condo unit to rent out. I lost my husband 14 years ago to a cancer but life goes on and travelled on my own or with group of friends. Last May I was home for 2 months after 3 years of absence due to covid . Yes I will be going home for good very soon.
I worked corrections for 5 years in Indiana years ago. He was spot on. It changes you and even if you try not to you end up bringing it home to family. Your trust level goes way down with unfamiliar people. I wish him luck and hope he can decompress from years of hyper vigilance. Three more years as a police officer and I'll be looking to retire. Maybe the Philippines will be my future home as well. Cheers
Very true. I am a wife of a former correction officer (thank God he got out of that job). It is a very subtle change so much so that it was my friend and church family who pointed it out to me. My gentle, kind husband has changed to one who's rude, temperamental and moody sometimes. He was a totally different man even to the way he dealt with our growing boys. The loving, doting dad has become a disciplinarian. Anyways, I am just glad he got out of that job.
Mark, this was a fascinating story with a straight-up Aussie bloke. A few stressful years as a Correctional Officer obviously took its toll on him but he's clearly weathered the storm. The Philippines will be good for him (and he will be good for the PH).
Peter. Thank you for sharing your story with us viewers. I hope everything works out for you. Great interview Mark! I'm glad you'll be introducing him to your friends.

Hello Mark, I'm a new subscriber to your channel....jumped over from Paul and Baby Mae's channels I've also recently discovered. I'm a retired Naval Officer from New Orleans by way of Texas. At the end of 2015, I sold just about everything I had in the US...house, cars, packed up 4 large suitcases, and came to the Philippines on a leap of fate. I'd never been here in my life....Haven't looked back since. I guess I have a story too...come to think of it! haha. I've been married for six years now currently living in Iloilo. My wife and I also lived in Palawan for 2.5 years, and moved to Iloilo City in 2018 to expand our business ( which we closed due to the pandemic). It was mall based, and I was not going to pay them out my pocket during the closures and very slow recovery. From watching you, Paul, and Baby Mae, we are actually wanting to come and check Dumangete and Valencia out. I know your vlogs are great for guys that may be considering doing what we all did, but I find it very helpful even for a seasoned expat as myself. The atmosphere in a province life with beach and ocean will calm a mans storm. Better if you find a wife and build a family with simple living away from the world. Many places in philippines are paradise and peaceful with friendly neighbors that wont bother you, but there ready to help and hang out if you get bored. Philippines is a country you socialize with people or hide peacefully like a hermit somewhere in remote town, beaches or island. And towns have fiestas which is very fun and annually
Australian's can move overseas for 6 years but after that you lose the right to benifits from capital gains tax relief on a house valued over $110,000. So the only option to release the capital gains into your pocket is to sell it before 6 years are up, while you are resident in Philippines. The rules are forever tightening on overseas based Australians. I think after 5 years you lose your Medicare coverage and have to commit to moving back to Australia permanently in order to get it back. Also veteran benifits cease after 6 weeks overseas depending on what category you are under. Not insurmountable problems. Build an Earthbag home in WA valued at $109,000, rent it out and you are sweet.
I heard that There is a 183 day rule if u live overseas beyond this time where u loose your permanent residence and pay full capital gains if u sell it in the future Please check this See ATO residency the 183 day rule We have rules for everything
