    I did a test recently with the inks I've had for years (Speedball super black and Dr. Ph Martin), and I found Speedball super black to be the best overall quality for water resistance and price-plus you can get it in pint and quart size bottles.

    OMG! OMG! Thank you! I am a beginner. I have Rapidographs from over 30 years ago and even the refill ink is still good! Who knew windex was the wonder cleaner for over 30 year old dried ink in these pens?! Anyway, I saw a post of yours "Trip" and fell in love with your background (h forground). I was hooked on this style! My Pilot fountain pen dries up all of the time and it is overwhelming with fountain pens, and expensive! I wanted something affordable and the link you shared is excellent! Great company, reasonable and your list gets me started affordably! And, paper has been a battle! I had no idea the depths of paper!! I look forward to seeing more on Patreon! I'll just have to deal with the cats and the ink bottle!

    I've always heard Bristol boards are best for dip pens, but not much about Mix Media paper. I'll definitely try that since I'm more use to drawing on smaller sized paper. Thanks for the video, dude!

    One thing missing from your vid is preparing your nibs for first time use. I never knew, when I was younger that new nibs came with a coating that needs to be removed. Hot water for 8 to ten minutes, then a little soak in rubbing alcohol before drying them off.
    I also tend to repurpose small jars of things like minced garlic because the jars are small and you have a lid, which makes taking inking supplies on the road more transportable .
    I use all the inks you shown but I also have a Liquitex Carbon black that is really good.
    Do you have any videos on stylized inking? More of developing an artistic flair to inking.

    Thanks for the info! I just got my first dip pen set after watching this and I'm struggling with doing a solid fill in areas. I always end up with basically a puddle that takes hours to dry and then has an uneven sheen when it does. What is the method to getting a clean black area filled? FWIW, I'm using the speedball super black and the speedball sketch kit. Thanks in advance!

      For large areas, you'll want to use a brush. A watercolor type brush will do. Doesn't have to be expensive.

    Hi Luke can I ask what kind of tripod (or any tool) do you use for taking videos when you're drawing, I dont think you use mobile phone for recording videos bu I thought you may know that tripod thing, I would like to record when I draw but I dont know how to stabilize my phone just from up.

      Thank you. I record with my phone (Samsung Galaxy S21 5G) . The mount that I use is a phone armature/mount made by Arkon. You can get it on Amazon. Works great. 👍🏼

    For me,the best companies,with the highest quality paper,are these:,No1 Hahnemuhle > No2 Arches > No3: Saunders > No4: Winsor & Newton > No5: Fabriano > No6: Canson > No7: Legion > No8: Daler Rowney < No9: Strathmore > No10: Clairefontaine. The best watercolor paper, from any brand, is not what they sell in blocks/pads, but the sheets, that are sold, as "Mould made" paper. That's THE best quality paper, each brand produces. That being said, everyones needs and tastes, are different.That means you have to try and experiment on different brands, to see what fits what better. Not all watercolors, and neither all the techiques with watercolors, work the same on all papers. Actually,one will see huge difference, from watercolor brands and paper combinations,before he settles to his favorites!

    Luke, my doubt is if the ink evaporates. I transferred some ink from its recipient to another, but I think the level of ink is decreasing, even though the new recipient is made of glass and it's capped. What is happening?

    • @LukeInk
      @LukeInk  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sounds like the cap might not have a gasket, therefore is not airtight. This will allow ink to evaporate/ thicken.

    Do the names and numbers on the nibs mean anything?

    • @LukeInk
      @LukeInk  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The name is the manufacturer, and the number is a code that is specific to that nib manufacturer. Generally the number will be a model number, carrying information specific to that nib. As far as I can tell, there is no useful information for the user in this number.
