    Cold Steel really know what they doing when designing knives they are in most cases second to none.

    I know this video was two years ago I just want to say you probably had a returned item. All my Cold Steel knives came packed differently than yours. This is how Cold Steel factory pack their knives; the greased knife is inserted in a cardboard sleeve, then the knife with the cardboard sleeve is packed in a bubble wrap plastic bag, the sheath is packed in a separate clear plastic bag. the two bags are placed inside the Cold Steel paper box. I have not had one Cold Steel knife that was packed in grease and inserted into the sheath as in your case. You will never be able clean out all the grease inside the sheath and every time you pull the knife out there is grease all over the blade. By the way I have the Magnum Tanto XII in 3V, Tai Pan in 3V, Magnum Tanto in 3V, and Magnum Tanto II in 3V and they were all packed as I described and the knives were never in the sheath when I received them.

    That fits your hand perfectly. Your fingers touch the palm. Place your thumb on the side of the handle in the pinch grip. You will find the grip perfect. Buy some K99 grease for the blade, you only need a very fine amount to water proof your knives. The cpm3v is denser so heavier!

    I got my San Mai new version today ,but I still want the DLC coated version ,plus I purchase the plastic model of this knife because it was so inexpensive for a practice blade ,I don't know if Cold Steel ever made a actual training knife for this blade.
    Two awesome blade Bro 😎

      Yessir I’m actually working on buying a V42 stiletto dagger. I dig the A&F but I there’s just something slick about the 42

      @@texasstax9913 I got one of those on the way in the new San Mai Steel that you spoke of ,but that DLC Coating is truly a winner on that Tai Pan 3v steel blade.
      Glad you showed that handle shape because I have those concerns but not now ,
      thanks.

    Which one do you think is better, VG10 or 3V?

    • @texasstax9913
      @texasstax9913  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Tough question. 3v is really badass tool steel. Admittedly I don’t have much experience with 3v. Vg10 on the other hand is tough as nails with great corrosion resistance. I’d hate to have to live on the diff between them but from what I’ve read about 3v I’d pick it over vg10 but I’d keep it oiled up.

      Chris Pap I just realized you were asking in reference to the taipan I reviewed. So this is why I decided to go with the 3v. I had hopes of finding the older and “prestigious” vg1 San Mai iii.since that’s hella harder than I had hoped and stupid expensive I decided to pick between the vg10 or 3v.
      I like the look of the bare metal vg10 but I chose the 3v since it’s better steel (tougher) and I intend on bead blasting the black coating down to a smooth matte finish ive seen others do. That way it doesn’t need the babying when it comes to corrosion. A dagger has one purpose as you know so I want it dependable. 3v is damn dependable. But I believe they’re coming out with a bare metal 3v taipan so if you like it that way and don’t mind lathering it with oil then I’d say wait for that one.

      Texas Stax thank you for your response!! I’m thinking to get the tai pan as it’s one of my favourite daggers ever. I was checking some forum before and people used to claim that the vg1 wasn’t that good and that the 3v is a lot better 🤷🏻‍♂️ idk tbh lol. One more question, you mentioned that the tai pan will be discontinued, does that mean that they won’t make it ever again or that the won’t be using that particular steel anymore? I live in the uk and it’s pretty hard to get one and very expensive so I want to make sure I get one before it’s gone forever. Thank you again l!

      Chris Pap understood. Like the original vg1 these knives are including the vg10 and 3v are discontinued. Hard to say if they’ll make more in the future. The vg1 was a San Mai blade that was great in its day but the 3v is better steel and in my opinion more bang for your buck. The old vg1 appeals to collectors though since it was made in Japan before they moved manufacturing to Taiwan. (Americans love Japanese steel when it comes to blades) The discontinued taipans are becoming less available too. Both vg10 and 3v are great steels for a tactical dagger but the 3v is just a tougher steel but minus the corrosion resistance. It’s a toss up but I’d rather have the tougher blade. Good luck to you! If you have IG come find me at Texas_Stax

      Texas Stax thanks mate, I’ll drop a follow later on! I’ll try to get the 3v version as I already have a 3v blade from Spyderco and I can say, the 3v is the best quality blade I had so far! Here in the UK the tai pan 3v costs 340£ 😂 take care mate!

    can anyone tell me if the CPM V3 is worthy the extra money vs the VG-10 San mai version? I’m not very well versed in steel types, any information would be hugely appreciated. Thanks guys!

    • @texasstax9913
      @texasstax9913  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The vg1 San mai ones were early and if you’re into collector grade you can’t go wrong with paying up for those. The vg10 are latter models and while they aren’t exactly collector grade they’re still outstanding knives. The 3V are considered “super steel” versions and for that alone you’ll pay more. Toughness, hardness it’s hard to beat. Im not certain you can buy them direct any longer but I’d say if you can get your hands on one I’d recommend the 3V. Good luck to you

      @@texasstax9913 thanks for the reply! Really appreciate it! I ended up going with the VG-10. My main purpose for buying steel is typically self defense, figured the San Mai would get the job done. Saving that little bit with the cheaper model gave the knife-nut in me an excuse to grab a Magnum Tanto XII in the same steel 😂
      Thanks again for the info though! On either model the craftsmanship is beautiful 👍🏻👍🏻

      Not the same knife. Taipan 13Q 3V (DLC) is discontinued.
      Cold steel now under GSM sell the 3V taipan along with a San Mai VG10 version I think but not the 13Q like the one in my review.
