Great video ,great dagger here ! I could be wrong ,but I think a MASTER tanto is made of San Mai steel ; if it is not laminated steel it is a "regular" tanto .
What a coincidence. I had wanted one of these for decades but never got one and I recently took the plunge, just like you related. I made certain to get the San Mai instead of the 3V for "authenticity". I love it.
I waited 40 years for the real rambo knife by V.Neeley of Lile knives. $2100.00. A work of art. He finished it for me in November. I love yours. Sometimes things are worth the wait.
Like 'em or hate 'em, the Cold Steel monsters always make one pay attention. (I like 'em.) This phenomenal grouping is making today's fixie hip carry look like a nail file in comparison. (Grabs twin 7.5" SK-5 trench knives for the second half of video.) There, now I've got some BKE (Big Knife Energy!) ⚔
I know it is kinda impractical but I use my cold steel colichemarde dagger to open my mail sometimes, other times I use a teeny tiny practically toothpick size friction folder that has a not super sharp edge to open letters with, I like using that one because the blade is just enough to slip under the seal and long enough to get a decent start on the opening too
It would be nice if coldsteel or whoever owns them could give the buyer an option of either the cheap ass plastic sheath or a better quality leather or ballistic nylon one.
I got my 3V Natchez Bowie for $400.00 on Midway. I love it and I think it's well worth $400 but I wouldn't have paid $540 for it. The Tai Pan is sweet! 👍
That Randell Dagger is phenomenal and the Tai Pan is also ,but I have to admit the Randell is King 👑 I own the Tai Pan San Mai and Tai Pan 3v the new version although I wanted the DLC coated model ,the Bill Harcey Dagger 🗡️ look outstanding as well like it can take a whipping and keep on going.
I’m so genuinely happy for you bob! The tai pan is such a cool knife...I’m doing it man I’m gonna get it lol hopefully by the next live you do I’ll have some updated news lol aloha and blessings from Hawaii 🤙🏼🙏🏼
This is definitely a gorgeous dagger. I remember when I first got into knives, all the cold steel catalogs were still available online, and I caught wind of the VERY limited Imperial Tai Pan which to this day I think is one of the most gorgeous knives I've seen. Just out of curiosity, have you every handled the Honshu dagger? They recently released a D2 and VG10 version as well.
I have this knife in CPM-3V. Up here in the rocky mountains this is part of my every day carry along with two Hellcat 9mm sidearms, a leatherman, a CKRT Big Dog pocket knife, a bic lighter, a ferro rod, and a flashlight. You city slickers wouldn't understand. The number one most important piece of gear is your bic lighter, you wouldnt last three days in the mountain wilderness without it. This knife is for wolves, mountain lions and wolverines that will jump on you before you can draw your sidearm. I will never go anywhere here in the mountains without this gear unless im in an area where its illegal.
City slicker here but I totally understand. I grew up out in the sticks and I very much wish I could carry a nice blade on my belt without people flipping out. I’m 50 now but a part of me is still the kid that would spend days tromping through the woods with my .22 rifle and a ka-bar on my belt.
Talking about carrying a double edged knife for wolves cougars and wolverine attack makes you sound like a city slickers that knows nothing about the rockies.... 😂
I've never met a single person in my entire life that has been serious injured let alone killed by a wild animal. Honestly how often do you hear of anyone getting killed by a wild animal??? Few times a year. Look at the murder rates of the big cities. Cities are the real jungle.
@user-qw2nd4oy3j I know several people that died by chipmunk bite. They got bit, caught the plague and some other bad shit and died. Don't know anybody that got ate by a bear though....
I bought the San mai version and it had a perfect grind on both sides. I loved the knife so much I decided to get one in 3V and the grind on that one was so jacked up and off center. The center line was not straight and completely missed the center of the tip on both sides. The center line was also washed out and not crisp. There were hazy spots in the steel and it was not polished correctly at all. It’s like they grabbed a random person off the street and brought them in to grind the knives. Possibly hired an 8 year old to do the grinds.
The bolsters are stainless steel, 300 type series steel. But i hate the sheats, made out of glass filled nylon that scratches and dulls the edge. the sanmai makes it 20% stronger than the 3v blade. When it comes to sideways stress and it wont brake and alot better in the cold too.
Well I just got this knife and first time in the sheath took the edge off. It is the worst fitting sheath I've ever felt by a long shot and can't be adjusted. Just go straight to a custom sheath. Trust me!
as far as using knives as a means to kill someone or how ever you would call it. The thinnest blades are the best. Thin and pointy. This is because Our meat on our body is very sticky when you stab someone. Its not like in the movies where the blade goes in very easy. So you want a sharp thin pointy dagger for those reasons. I was in the military and then i did some contractor work for our govt. that is how i know. i am not a serial killer.. lol
Hello, my english is very bad. My question, os this PanTai in this video the 3v steel and what tip is penetrater, from.3v or san mai. What Steel should i buy ?
It's San Mai steel in this video. I suggest you to buy 3V steel version. However, 3V steel needs to pay attention to rust prevention. At the same time, the nylon-glass fiber sheath from cold steel will blunt your dagger blade because the sheath material is too hard. I suggest you buy another sheath made by KYDEX or leather
I want the Cold Steel Tai Pan, Master Tanto, and Magnum Tanto but I can’t justify buying any of them. They’re beautiful, absolutely beautiful. But I don’t really carry fixed blades. (What I actually carry is the Cold Steel Code 4.) But I still want those big, awesome fixed blades!
@@Rick-dzm actually I gave into temptation and bought the Master Tanto in “too big” and “even bigger” sizes. 😁 I’m not sure I will ever carry them but I love them all the same.
Not a huge dagger fan… BUT that piece is AWESOME!!!

Happy Sunday amigo. That one looks pretty sweet 👍👍

Haha! It's about time we both got this beauty in our collections!

Thanks for showing it 🔪👍
I use this beauty to open my bills.

Wow ! The perfect weapon against zombies hordes ! One day this dagger gonna be mine .
They are so bada$$ Taipan, love that brass master tanto.
That Randall is SICK!!!!
That Randal looks amazing!
Nice collection and video. The Tai Pan is still on my wishlist after 25 years also, someday maybe.
I love mine!
still dreaming of finding my own ventura master tanto at a yard sale

This dagger is gorgeous, double edge, normal dagger ground, not chisel ground on one side like some other

I bought the honshu to use the leather sheath for my taipan fits perfectly
I just looked up pictures of the Imperial Tai Pan, man you're right, that knife is, or was, a freaking work of art.
Nice knife and collection, need to add the EK
Very nice Blade! I do have the FGX Version scattered around the house and in the shower. I know. Crazy.
We have the FGX Tiger Claw in our shower, it's not crazy. It's totally normal.
The tai-pan shape of blade has been around for around a thousand years or more, check out the shape of the spears used in Japan, same shape!

My 3v is off center slightly also. The finish looks good at least
Would this be too large to attach to a backpack strap

$160 at my LGS, so thinking on it, Bob. Sweet! 👍🗡️👊
