The fact that he agrees with her about being her own person not just the status quo is amazing. I've loved their relationship for years both in the books and on-screen I think this is the most relatable version though. They've always push each other to realize their dreams, supported each other but still found ways to be individuals, Partners, Lovers and Friends. That is huge especially in the 1800's-1900. Even now most characters don't have that quality behind them. Both of them heal people in different ways. Gilbert with medicine and Anne with words and true kindness. It's easy to see how they could have fallen for each other.
