  • test run of the 4A032 in my airboat, it is dead stock. It tested at 80lbs of thrust. It now sports a mikuni KM 24, zoomie headers and a variable pitch 51" helix prop, this upped the thrust to 100, but it needs just a little more to plane out!

I bought one to make an ultralight with. I got a carburetor from a Volkswagon engine, and intend to use the prop as the flywheel. It's only around 80pounds stripped down. The small carburetor that comes with these engines is really too small for this engine. It is the same carb that is on the 1 & 2 cylinder military engines.

What the hp you can get Whit a VW carb cause I heard that you could get up to 16 HP Whit a Briggs 20 carb

Another thing you could try is a ram tube, when I had this thing on the boat I made three in different lengths out of PVC by heating one end up wit a heat gun and making a nice radius to smooth out the airflow at the inlet. I picked up about 150 RPM with one about 14 inches long, they work by using the pulses of the inlet tract sorta like tuning a guitar string, once you hit the right length the air sets up a standing wave and actually forces a bit more air into the cylinders but they only resonate at specific RPMs so you have to experiment. you will know when you get it right because the peak HP will noticeably jump

@57truckster1 it isn't a plate, but a pipe that extends down into the spider about an inch, the hard turn on the elbow was bugging me anyways, so I fabbed a long radius inlet tube and tried a mikuni TM-24 carb rather than saw the pipe off. With the mikuni and a slightly smaller prop with less pitch my thrust jumped to 100lbs, but it still had problems planing the boat out. still have the engine though, maybe I'll get a dragonfly hull next......Hmmm!

@The2006rubicon hey, i was wondering if it would do alot better with a 4 bladed prop. when you started it up it had no hesitation and didn't bog down at all. my engine gets up to speed JUST as fast and there isn't anything attached to it. yours revved up like there was nothing attached to it. maybe you could take mare advantage of those 3600 RPMs and increase the load with 4 blade/bigger prop?

Can yo tell me where you got the prop hub for this engine? Or maybe you would be interested in selling me this one, seeing that you are not using this engine at the moment. I can't find one anywhere. Thanks M.S.

@shotgunfreak17 it didn't do well, couldn't even get it to plane out, I replaced it with a 4A084 before I got any video of it on the water with the little 4A, but I haven't given up on the thing just yet, it's just too cool! I'm thinking about making a micro mini airboat about the size of a 4X8 sheet of plywood!

Hey dude just rember not to run that wood prop over 3,000 rpm other wise it will blow up not being rude and maybe you want to get a carbonfiber prop

Yes indeed! I never fully trusted wood props, I pulled this one off shortly after and went to a helix carbon fiber prop. This one never had the power to turn up past about 2700RPM on a good day with the factory carb anyhow
