  • Ten years ago this week, Egypt's first democratically elected president was ousted in a coup d'état. Mohamed Morsi, a member of the Muslim Brotherhood, was propelled to power by the Arab Spring. His dramatic fall was orchestrated by Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, a military general who promised to bring stability to Egypt. A decade later, the country's economy is in dire straits and Sisi rules with an iron fist. We bring you a report from our Cairo correspondents and speak to Koert Debeuf, professor of Middle East politics at Brussels University.

    I was in Egypt in 2007, things seemed normal to me. If not for the Arab Spring and those foreign forces behind it things would still be fine. I'm an American and I blame my government, the State Department headed by Hilary Clinton for the pain and misery of the Egyptian people.

      The very fact that the Arab Spring happened should have made it clear to you that all was NOT well and that is your perceptions were inadequate.
      But now you think we should believe your outsider's views are valuable. Yeah right

    I am afraid of the state of chaos that Sisi spoke about, and I hope that it does not reach us and reaches whoever ignited it in the first place. It started in Matrouh Governorate 😥

      Not French here, but why is Sissi a strong leader?
      His job as a military person is to keep an order against terrorists.
      Every year I return Egypt, people suffer more and more.
      What else he does?

      @@MrCopierre I'm Egyptian and I'll tell you some people here are brainwashed , they keep saying he ended terrorism and this is actually his only achievement and now since 10 years nothing else !!! prices are going up everyday(not a joke) while salaries are very low compared to this prices , no improvement in education, health or economy and no freedom of speech or basic rights , you can just go to prison for writing a comment like this , people are afraid to talk , but I can tell you that the majority here hate him but we are afraid to take any step because we can literally go to prison without any case and spend years there while no body know anything about us , Egypt is becoming a big prison for Egyptians , I'm very sad about my country and I hope it gets better or I leave it

    Small correction - Jenin is not a refuge camp. A city with buildings with 10 floors is a city, not a camp.
    Also, the "west bank" (aka "Judea" prior to the illegal jordanian occupation of 1948), is not occupied.

    • @Ruder6163
      @Ruder6163 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      It’s occupied according to international law. If it’s not occupied than give the people Israeli citizenship. You won’t though, because you want an “ethnically pure” state. Reminds me of another government……Germany in the early 1900??
