I’ve seen Emmy Lou any time she performs within 150 miles of me but the first time was in Dublin back in the 70’s. A friend gave me his ticket because he thought I was homesick. There was a mix up with the tickets and I wound u sitting by the guy mixing the sound. We g talking and it turned out he was from Detroit, as I was. He asked me back to the after concert party at the Shelbourne and I got to meet Emmy Lou.
Emmylou, a hippie chick, and the Hot Band slid in under the radar and completely surprised the Nashville scene with her voice and the quality of her music. Her arrival could not be ignored then and look where she has come to now. Love that voice and her delivery.
My wife and I have tickets to Emmylou next week in Chico California , we are so looking forward to seeing her again , the first time I saw her was in Oakland Ca , with Merle Haggar. That was 1975 I believe . Rip Merle .......Keep Rockin the Cosmos.
Damn, I saw everyone else in the 70's, how did I miss Emmylou Harris? I thought I didn't like Country Music,,. Yep Chad, got on it from Ken Burns. Now a country fan and have bought some Hank Williams. This kicks ass!
I must confess that the first time that I saw Emmylou on TV I was mesmerized by her beauty. and I would play that video over and over again....OMG what an Angel of a Girl. To this day am in love with her !
Is the song itself a great song? Well, maybe that's debatable. But when you have a singer and band, all bringing their A game, all in sync and apparently an audience "getting it", the result is a magic lightening strike. Fantastic that this decades old performance was captured for us to enjoy now. THANK YOU to whoever was responsible for posting this.
I'm lovin it! Music to my ears and I can't stop listening to this song and the "Red Dirt Girl" from Birmingham, Alabama, Emmylou! I guarantee that Gram Parsons is smiling, along with other giants including Waylon, George, Johnny and June. These were people that helped Emmylou get into the Country Western scene in the mid - late 1970's. Now that same Red Dirt Girl from Alabama is being honored by many young Country Swing listeners as they are enjoying, learning, experiencing from the old timey country and western artists. This new generation of what I call "Hollywood Country"music are the phase today, but let us all remember that others paved the road for them by paying their dues thru Juke Joints to opening for Elvis. Emmylou took Hank Williams' "Jambalaya" into my generation via local fairs, beer joints and AM radio. Every True Country Music Fan needs to hear this one song that captures the very essence of real country music, worldwide!!! "Many Thanks" to Hank, Emmylou, James Burton - Rodney Crowell- Glen D. Hardin and others!!!!
My daddy use to sing this song all the time.In fact the last time I saw him, he was on his way fishing. He drove out of the driveway singing this song. He was later killed in a car crash. How fitting that I remember this on Father's day. Thank You.
I am not what you'd call a big country music fan But this is a new definition of awesome Thank you Ken Burns & Co. for the documentary that put this on my radar.
Kicks ass … mind blowing. She is ridiculously enchanting as a performer. That look at 1:48! Then that little “ woo” in the chorus against that guitar. Smokin
Gotta love the country music of this era . Emmy Lou was just one of the many ladies that could carry a tune with excellence. Musicians were great as well .
James Burton's rhythm guitar in verse 3 makes my hair stand on end. And Danny Pendleton is kicking it. I've played this 100 times in a row. I'm addicted.
Emmylou getting down. Love it. That's my girl. I live in Nashville and a few years ago was standing next to her at an event for dogs (she's very big into rescue) She smiled at me and was petting my dog. I just stood there gawking and couldn't think of anything to say. I've been kicking myself ever since.
As far as I can tell, this was the original lineup of The Hot Band with Rodney Crowell, James Burton, Hank DeVito, Emery Gordy, Glen Hardin, and John Ware. Great stuff!
I've never particularly liked this song, including her recorded version. But this live version has buckets of energy as well as talent all around. Love it.

The music of Emmylou and James Burton brought me here. Was watching and listening to James Burton back when he was lead guitarist for Ricky Nelson, long before he hooked up with Elvis.

This old hippie (73) still loves Emmylou!
So does this one- until I’m on the wrong side of the dirt.
Emmylou's magic, the Hot Band, and Mr. Burton's guitar: unbeatable !!
*After GP passed Emmylou did IT better than anyone ever did or ever will!*
Hank would love it

She was never a "hippie chick". a folk singer, yes, but not a chick. what a patronizing, uninformed comment.
@@patricias5122 a folk chick then.
I dunno but Rodney Crowell, on the Telecaster, did pretty well, and I believe that is James Burton on the lead guitar.
Bravo
❤️❤️❤️🇨🇭
Have been listening to her for 50 years. More or less😆🤟🏼👍🏻❤️🎃
One of the best music performances ever. bar none.
I love older people coming on here and giving tidbits of things they remember!!
My wife and I have tickets to Emmylou next week in Chico California , we are so looking forward to seeing her again , the first time I saw her was in Oakland Ca , with Merle Haggar. That was 1975 I believe . Rip Merle .......Keep Rockin the Cosmos.
Emmylou always looks like she is having fun when she performs. I'm also betting she has a wicked sense of humor.
No one else on earth like Emmylou. Not before. Never after.
Not quite, Linda Ronstadt is well out in front.
Linda is outstanding, as well.
I like the Spanish version by the Felinos.
The angels take singing lessons from Emmylou.
Another great Emmylou classic👍
Damn, I saw everyone else in the 70's, how did I miss Emmylou Harris? I thought I didn't like Country Music,,. Yep Chad, got on it from Ken Burns. Now a country fan and have bought some Hank Williams. This kicks ass!
With James still in place, this was inarguably one of the greatest bands that ever existed on the planet.
I have fond memories of me and my Dad dancing to this song when I was a little kid. Rip Papa
Love that piano playing of Glen D. Hardin
God she had some attitude back in the day, and we love her for it !!
I must confess that the first time that I saw Emmylou on TV I was mesmerized by her beauty. and I would play that video over and over again....OMG what an Angel of a Girl. To this day am in love with her !
Me too!! 🥰🥰🥰
As well as I.
And.... I fall in love with Emmylou all over again. I don't know what 222 people were thinking. Must have been Bieber fans lost in the interwebz!
Emmy Lou with her incredible personality, voice, movements and her own version is Right On Top! 13.07.21 Finland
THE best version ever , fantastic voice, an angel
This is one of the best, most lively covers of this great song! She's so talented ...

This song is a pure masterpiece regardless who is singing it, its not debatable.
@@Ryan-hi6zgI disagree, this song can suck. This however is a masterpiece!
shes so wild !!!
Love her voice. It has a brightness. A quality I wish mine had. Plus she's so darn cute.

JAMES BURTON IS MAGIC
James Burton's rhythm guitar in verse 3 makes my hair stand on end. And Danny Pendleton is kicking it. I've played this 100 times in a row. I'm addicted.

Badass … great call on that
