It's been so long since I have heard that song sung by professional singers. Emmylou is just a solid lead, and Alison can't be beaten for singing harmony. She had years of professional voice training and can sing any position: lead, harmony, second soprano, alto, but not base, not with that angelic voice. So much talent in such a tiny woman! She's an angel on loan from God to us.

I think that is her humility which is, I think, why everyone seems to want to collaborate with her. She makes them all sound better in my view. She does a song "Trying to get over you" (or something like that) with Vince Gill that is wonderful.
That is so true. She always dials it back to match who she's with. Then when she sings solo delivers the must hauntingly pure tone I've ever heard from a voice.

The piano piece is just superb. They have really paid the Everley bros a fabulous tribute with this version.

Absolutely flawless! I had hoped Alison would go for that tension-y higher note on the "you" in "whenever I want you" that Phil did in the studio version (and rarely if ever after that). It's my favorite thing in this perfect song, and it also seemed like something she'd like. Oh well, still amazing.

I suspect some of the the thumbs down were from some that expected an Alison Krauss performance. Sadly those few lost the moment of collaboration. Alison is part of a moment. I am more a fan of Alison. And her collaboration with others has brought me to explore. I actually don't think anyone can do this song as the Everly Brothers did it. perhaps another reason for thumbs down.
