I thought so too, until I heard the original Townes Van Zandt version. Also I would give a slight edge to Willie Nelson and Waylon's version. But not much.
My vote for best version of Pancho & Lefty, and where would those beautiful harmonies be without the contribution of Rodney Crowell? Their voices are heartachingly beautiful.

EmmyLou Harris was my husband’s favorite singer. We heard her only once in concert about 7-8 years ago and she was still as fabulous as ever. My husband was born 1 day after EmmyLou 🤩🤩

Emmylou is a stand alone legend. Her angelic voice, on stage demeanor, incredible work ethic and, not to mention, her extraordinary beauty, makes her (in my humble opinion) one of the two, truly great female progressive country/bluegrass/folk artists ever to grace the stage. The other is Alison Krauss. There are many other excellent female artists such as Dolly, Patsy Cline, Carrie Underwood, and too many more to add to this list. That said, Emmylou and Alison are my hands down favorites.

A voice of pure shimmering crystal that gives a plaintive and melancholic version of a classic song. Simply stunning. I had the privilege of watching her in concert in the late 70's at the Glasgow Apollo - around midway through her performance I audaciously sauntered to the front of the stage & threw my Scottish scarf in her direction.
