Hours after watching this, I found I’d introduced canyoning to a nib, but thankfully now I could recognize the issue and corrected it. Whew. Thank you!
A nice video but use Caution. I've done this method before on a gold nib and raised an edge on the top edge of the slit. If you scissor the nib like this to reduce ink flow you need to be very careful about raising an edge on the top surface of the nib slit. Take a piece of 0.001 inch plastic wrap and slide it in-between the full length of the tines before you cross over the tines. This might protect the top slit edge. Another method of reducing ink flow is to lightly, LIGHTLY, pinch the nib wings. I realize this creates a bit of a tiny "V" \ / shape but that's what your looking for. On the plus side while making the pen write dryer it also makes reverse writing wetter. If the reverse writing edge is to sharp, LIGHTLY take the edge to the smoothest side of a sanding pad, the light gray side of the pink grey and white sanding sticks. Use zero pressure, Just lightly take off the edge. I've done this on my Hemingway Montblanc and it writes like a dream on both sides of the nib. Best of luck.....
This is what I do with almost all pens lol. I mostly use needlepoints and japanese EFs every day. So I want the needlepoint line. Only problem is tho, if you make the nib VERY dry, even a Jowo feed will have too much flow for the nib and drip at some point.
I've tried to use this method on my Wing Sung 699 nib but it is so stiff that it seems it won't budge. Should I just persist and put more pressure on the tines or is there any other method of narrowing the gap?
Similar issue but both are created from different reasons. That's why its important to diagnose the correct issue first so then the correct next step is done to resolve it
Of course this comes out 2 days after I ruined an expensive nib and had to regrind it lol (It every working good now, hard starts a little very scary in the moment
Already had, alot of other fountain pen content creators had. Sorry if I come of as rude but you seem like a lazy person for not watching more than 5 seconds of the video, or just searching the internet.
@@yeeterguy9295 Well, telling the truth is not being rude, literally the first thing he said in the video was he already showed how to increase the flow 😑
That's yahoo for 'ya. I mute ALL commercials and do other things around my desk while they're playing. The content creator has no control over such annoyances.
Like I've said in both videos, its just a teeny piece of metal that we're trying to bend a tiny bit 😬. "Take 'er easy there bud!" (of course said with a Canadian accent)
This is exactly the info I need. I thank you kindly.
All technical info on nib repair/maintenance/correction/etc. is highly appreciated.
Glad it helps

how did you correct the canyoning? I did the same to my Diplomat Aero but nothing i do seems to fix it. I think i did it by using a brass shim i think
Great video!
Thank you very much!
This is very important information for fountain pen enthusiasts!
Very useful video
Hope it helps some folks
Did this to my 146. Thank you so much!
Glad it helped
Excellent info. Thanks.
This is handy (though i love wet nibs). And the canyoning issue explains why your method of increasing wetness in the previous video is superior.
The press down method does work but though I would mention an issue that can arise and should be checked after the adjustment.

Very nice video, very informative. Thank you DB

Thank You, needed that - great stuff!
I have a Nahvalur fine nib that writes so wet the line is more medium. I may give this a try.
Thank you, kind Sir! 😇🩵🙏🙌
Thank you for the instructional videos. How do you increase feed flow?
I just did a video on thst a couple of days ago. Have a look

Well, the disclaimer should be that you'll probably misalign your tines and cause a scratchy nib, it's happened to me several times already 😅
Oh man, this looks quite easy, don't know if I should try it on a 1930's Sheaffer though, should I?
I would practice it on a cheap steel nib pen first
Yes, I thought so too. Thank you
Thank you. My MaJohn P136 and my Wing Sung 630 have been gushers. I will try crossing the times to see how they write.
Thanks again.
How long does it take you to edit these video's? how much footage do you actually use compared to how much you've actually taken?
All depends on the video
Canyoning appears to be analogous to baby's bottom?

How well does this work with flex nibs? I assume that as the tines flex, the little bit of closing you do doesnt matter.
Still works no problem
What if you no thumbnails?
How to make a feed drier?
Put silicone grease in the groove. Just kidding, don't do it, it can be a pain to clean it up.
I don't think you can (easily) do it.
You'd have to obstruct the ink channels in the feed to obstruct the ink passages. The easiest thing to do would be to dry a dryer writing ink

Yeah my times are definitely not parallel
Well... now you know LOL
I'm exaggerating, but, I'll say it anyway --- There is no such thing as too wet. I love my wet wet boards and stubs (and music nibs)!
That's the nice things about fountain pens, you can tune them to your liking 👍
Great. Can you make a video opposite of this. Making dry nib write wetter

There's lots of videos on that, he actually spent a not significant amount of this video even mentioning how to do thay

First time watching that I was forced to watch a 60 sec. Weight loss commercial😢 with no way to x away. Don't mind a 15 sec. But that was too long.

@@tma-1704 Thank you. I was upset b/c it was so long.
At that point I'd just close the video and try again with hope for a better ad
Yeah youtube can get crazy with ads sometimes. Unfortunately not much control on my end
I successfully damaged a nib last week trying to make a gold nib drier 😂
now I'm afraid to try it.
@@ichirofakename DoodleBud is a pen engineer. I couldn't do.
