Thank you Kirby. Tipping the lighter and bottle upside down and releasing excess butane were the home run tips. I thought I was the problem.. and I was. Great tips.
@@Dushan_EW It is indeed simple, but believe me, many young gentlemen were raised with the regular cheap lighter that you trow away when empty. And they have never seen anyone do it and might be interested in refiling or getting a proper lighter. If it is not helping right now, it will help in the future.
With every lighter I obtain, I see the warning: *"Do Not Overfill Your Lighter."* Yet nowhere do any of them say how you could do that or to know you've over-filled it. This is with no instructions given as to how long to hold the refill can of fuel in place. And here again it is mentioned "you don't want to overfill the lighter." I suppose I'll just keep doing what I do; depress the refill can for about 3 to 5 seconds and repeat about 2 or 3 times.
When my refillable butane lighters get full, liquid butane starts sputtering out of the fill junction as I try to add more, and running down the side of the lighter. Once I see that juuust starting to happen, it's done. If that happens, be sure to wait a few seconds for it to evaporate before lighting. Unless you want to see the cool effect of your fingers and outside of the lighter with pretty flames coming off them. 🫣
When the sputtering starts, isn't the lighter already overfilled at that point? Perhaps we ought to bleed out a bit of pressure at that point, much like when we overfill a car tire?
I just tried to refill a half full lighter. Now the lighter is 1/4 full. The pressure in the lighter must have been more than the tank. I’m going to warm the tank and put the lighter in the freezer. We will see if that helps. I will wait for the lighter to be empty in the future.
I put the lighter in the freezer and the butane in my pocket. Then filled the lighter. It now has more than double what it started with. So that worked.
To take it a step further, after you’ve evacuated the lighter, shake it throughly and release the gas again to equalize the pressure with the outside air. This will allow you to fill your lighter without fighting existing gases inside the tank of the lighter.
"You don't want to overfill the lighter so it doesn't sputter" *Lighter sputters intensely, repeatedly* "Very interesting flame." *pretends nothing is wrong* 😜
Just recently acquired some ST Dupont red for my Defi Extreme and my god is it a noticeable difference in performance. It's a Butane/Propane mixture with a lot more pressure than butane alone. One caveat though, because of the added pressure it runs out much quicker but lighters the cigars fast as well. No difference in flavor just performance. Unfortunately I can't find any other companies that do butane/propane mixtures so I guess I'll have to bite the bullet for Dupont gas. Love the video Kirby! Can't wait for the Cuba video release🥃
Hello Kirby. Nice video. I have a question. After the refill the lighter get cold. I thought that you have to wait 5 till 10 minutes till you can light the flame. Greetings from Germany.
you should not shake the gas canister which will introduce unwanted propellant in the lighter, instead keep the canister stored upside down so all the propellant is on top pushing down the liquid butane when filling
Kirby, How about a few segments on New World cigars that are worth smoking? With the horrific price increases in Cubans it would be nice to see some decent alternatives besides Davidoff reviewed.
FWIW - Here are a few thoughts: Try Padron (among the best New World cigars IMO). Fuente Fuente Opus X are nice as well. I typically stay away from the non-Cuban Cohiba (though Red Dot is not too bad). For less expensive New World cigars I think Perdomo are a pretty decent brand. Nothing beats Cubans or even comes close, but there are many New World brands worth trying out. 🤷🏻♂️
Been watching your vids in secret and loving them. This guide tipped me over and subscribed. I’m a coder so if you have an idea I’d love to touch base.
great info. I always wondered why my flame would die even though it was full of gas, it was trapped air. Now before filling I empty it completely and now it is fine every time. Kirby just some advice. That outfit is far too big on you, it looks like that jacket swallows you up. It should look like you wear the jacket but its the opposite it wears you.
I bought clipper brand gas and tried to refill my brand new xikar lighter. It is too weak light at max setting. emptied re tried again . Something is wrong
Did I hear you correctly in you saying "it should last an evening?" Wow, that doesn't sound good. I've just bought a Vertigo Governor Pipe Lighter and already having problems. Surprising as I have everything sussed nicely with my Zippo.
i just did the lighter equivalent of looking down the barrel of a gun and pulling the trigger to test. I was watching this video while fiddling around with an old (presumably empty) butane lighter i found and while having it less than a foot away from my face, almost directly below my face i squeezed it and it shot out a flame. Turns out the little switch on the side is a safety, not a small - big regulator. im dumb.
One of my favourite if not de favourite suit you own kirby 😍👍🏻👌🏻 re filling a lighter without seeing the tank always scares me to death 🤣 please use a soft flame, it suits you more ❤️🇬🇧
It’s not that it will break. You might not get a complete fill unless it starts empty. I just tried to top off my lighter. Put on the canister. The fuel went from the lighter to the tank. Now there is less in my lighter. Lol Which brought me here.
Actually, you shouldn't shake the can AT ALL you will get propellant through as well as the butane, if you shake the can leave it a few mins to separate.
You made a comment about using a pen to decompress the valve, this is a big NO!!!! You can get a smudge of ink on or in it, and I did this from experience. Please don't make that mistake..
I would bet you might be willing to endorse the reconstruction of Steam Train Travel in the USA. This is something that is actually “Greener” than anything but purely Electric Trains (like in the New England and North East Coast Regions), and it can be just as green if the trains are fired with Hydrogen, or use other carbon capture technologies in the Stack with LNG or Petroleum Oil fuels. You just kind of look like you might be likely to endorse returning to a bit more romantic means of travel that is in less of a rush.
Thank you Kirby. Tipping the lighter and bottle upside down and releasing excess butane were the home run tips. I thought I was the problem.. and I was. Great tips.
Got to love you Kirby you sacrificed and lit a cigar just to show us how to refill a lighter. Great job, keep up the good work.

I never thought of putting the lighter in the freezer! Thank you...
What a classy and GQ man wow he has such nice stuff even smoking he’s so elegant with it .
Wow, literally needed to refill my lighter today for the first time in a LONG time, searched TH-cam and this video was uploaded just in time 😅
Those cuff links are worth a close-up! Very nice!
Your suit is beautiful, that blue gives a stunning pop of colour whilst exuding class and dignity.

😂😂😂😂 Gotta love kirby
Mine isn’t even filled and it still sputters

He’s a straight BOSS
Hello. It's clearly written on the butyle tank: after refill wait 30 sec to give the liter and gas inside get as hot as room temperature.

Good lesson here from Detective Boyle of the 99th Precinct
I KNEW he reminded me of someone. 😂 underrated comment

Yep, not sure advising people to “shake” the canister is good advice.
Nothing beats a match for class

Love the new suit. The colours work so well.

Some say to turn the flame height valve down to its most lowest setting before filling, do you agree with this?
Thank you, for another educational video, in the art of smoking.
but how do you fill up your butane lighter refiller?
great info. I always wondered why my flame would die even though it was full of gas, it was trapped air. Now before filling I empty it completely and now it is fine every time.

This dude reminds me of an old-timey infomercial

Where can I get that big bottle of butane fuel
Nice job Kirby!
How can you not like this guy!!!😊

Wow, reviewbrahs dad!
You know the world has gone mad when this video is in YT with comments 😅😅😅😅😅
Thanks for that Kirby, some handy, helpful tips there. What cigar were you smoking - RyJ Petit Corona?
I know you’re supposed to purge a lighter. But never in my life have I ever done this and never had a lighter break.
It’s not that it will break. You might not get a complete fill unless it starts empty.
I just tried to top off my lighter. Put on the canister. The fuel went from the lighter to the tank. Now there is less in my lighter. Lol

That flame got some good laughes atta me. lol
What happens if you overfill the lighter
Great tweed- where’s the tweed suit from?
Actually, you shouldn't shake the can AT ALL you will get propellant through as well as the butane, if you shake the can leave it a few mins to separate.
When will the Cuba videos be released ???!?! 😅
No need for the freezer. Pull the trigger while pushing down on the fill valve. Fill , let some air out and fill again Walla, no need for freezer
Thank you so much! Man I love that suit.....
Kirby's on fire again! LOL.
no trouser bulging
You say don't overfill, but don't say how we're supposed to know when to stop. That would make for a very helpful video.
Well done
Using the lighter near the butane refill....
Im a zippo lover it's good for cigarettes and cigars
Hey mate what is going on with your shirt
Carefull with filing the dupont slim, the tank is plastic and can crack easy if overfilled
I have a prince butane lighter, and I accidentally put lighter fluid instead of butane. Spark still works but how can I fix before putting in butane?
Careful with any over spray or your hand will ignite.I wait a minute to light.😊
Well done 😊
SD or S.T. Dupont? Make your mind up!
Glad to see you have put the undertaker look to rest. Very nice suit.
Mine still doesn't fill
Where is the Cuba series?
Marvelous
Nice suit
I didn't realise TH-cam was a thing in 1952!

Blue flames are for the young and impatient. A yellow flame lights a cigar - a blue flame burns it.
This is the most ads I've seen packed into a video inconspicously
It’s like the TH-cam gods heard my struggles!!
Kirby has gone from cordovan to crack head.
Doesn't work
real connoisseurs use wooden matches
Cigar not even lit properly or evenly
Yeah, you definitely dont want anything in/near your pockets bulging...
Jesus loves us
Just get to the video Jeeze you talk way too much about nothing
Mate I love you and your posts but give the shooting suit a break
DuPont lighters should only use there own fuel. Why risk it.
wtf who lights a cigar with anything other than a wooden match
horrible lighter don’t buy broke first day using it complete pos garbage product.
How long before these are replaced by electric lighters 😂. Dupont pronounced Dupon
Lmao please don’t give Elon any ideas..lol
Please get to the point faster
I guess you are from 1952.
