I love my R7. Got it for video as well. It does overheat on "FINE" 4K 29.97 with CLog3 at around 1 hour but added a Ulanzi fan and it ran for at least 3 hours. (I guess maybe kind of a fringe case to run it that long).
I've shot exclusively with the R7 for 2 yrs. With reach as my #1 priority, I really don't have any choice. But I will say, the majority of the folks who buy an R7, are buying the wrong camera. If you don't "have to have reach", for small birds like I do, your probably better off with any of the numerous Full Frame options out there, some, even cheaper than the R7. I bet I could do a video for "10 reasons the R7 needs to be upgraded in 2025", with the R7 Mk II :) Until then, I'm stuck with the quirky darn thing. I love / hate these cameras :) lol Oh, and my best advice, if you want this camera to last, "Don't use the mechanical shutter, as they fail a LOT" ! Research it. Super loud, slappy, shutter shocking things anyway. Its obvious why they fail so much.
Amazing deal for a wildlife camera. Crop factor, pixel density and animal eye autofocus. Pair it with a 100-500 and you can really fill the frame. Excellent value.
Depends on the size of your wildlife. For larger birds and furry creatures, a Full Frame camera would be better. The 100-500.... eh. For larger stuff, or larger BIF, yea. It's a sharp lens. Just not much reach, and overpriced for not being any faster than it is.
The R7 with the 100-500 effectively gives you 800mm, that’s all of the reach I need. I use a combination of an R3 and an R7 depending on the situation/conditions.
The R7 has IBIS, 2 card slots, more resolution, a 1/8000s shutter (1/4000s shutters suck) and way better battery life. Sensor size isnt everything. R7 is the better camera.
Awesome video Andrew congrats on the new camera...r7 is really good value
Thanks!
4K60p has no crop, it uses pixel binning, while 4K fine is downscaling the full width of the 7k sensor
I can't wait for your review on the new r11!

Thanks for the info! Yeah I definitely will not be recording in 4k for that long so that's good to know!
This camera rocks bro! I use it for all of my weddings, sports, etc. (Video work) Nifty fifty and the 24-105mm f4.
Very cool! I definitely want to get a zoom lenses and use if for sports, wildlife and motorsports in the future!
@@AndrewKnepper definitely! I am considering the 18-50 Sigma RF 2.8. Let me know if you get it!

Absolutely! It's awesome that beginners get such a great option at a great price!

Full frame cameras normally have a APS-C mode if you want to use the smaller lenses.
Yeah that is true! The only downside is it crops in on your sensor and greatly decreases the image quality.
As well as typically lower resolution.
Bro! Does this crop sensor cameras have a crop when using a crop sensor lens? Or its the same focal length?
A lens made for a crop sensor camera like the Sigma 18-50mm will have no cropping at all.
have you managed to get "registered AF func" to work?
what kind of situation do you use it?
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
r7 is $1299 and r8 full frame is $1199 atm
Depends on where you're shopping... I've seen it around 1k on Walmart and eBay, but sales are always changing
