  • I'm lucky to live near Tarpon Springs...home of the Sponge docks! During a recent visit I learned more about these natural sea sponges and decided to replace my petroleum based synthetic sponges that I've been using. This is what I learned and why I'm making the switch!

After 2 years of watching this I finally went to tarpon springs. I was so happy when I bought natural sponges and soap. Greek food is tasty too. Thank you Christine for telling us about this.

That sponge is a sea animal, classification porifera (invertebrates) it's been harvested for thousands of years. (Edited for spelling)

@@iconix19 It has no tissues, no organs. As @N BC , said they are being over-harvested. It filters shit like plankton out of the water, and that's how they grow. It's quite sad because i learned a lot about spongiology in class. The lady is flipping dumb, I'm kinda angry. It's the same thing, fibre is fibre, it's just plastic, spongin fibre are made of chemicals. JOE MAMA is made of chemicals.

Christopher Columbus Mold comes from improperly storing the sponges. Also, I do not agree with her theory on mold. In fact, I would think that it would be the opposite, especially with the materials in artificial sponges.

you are quite a selfish person. it take decades for those poor creatures to grow and then people come and harvest them. sponges are not grown on farms they are harvested! buying natural sponges helps destroy delicate ecosystems just for the fun of bragging that you are all natural! be natural, help the enviroment.

1:39 ... this is the kind of person you're taking advice from in case you came here to look for an intellectual advice.
2:25 ... if you only dry the synthetic sponge by squeezing it hard with one hand after each use it'll last over six months looking like new. No need for a veriety of potentially corrosive chemicals to clean it.
almost done.... 3:14 this lady doesn't understand what the word chemical means yet she mentioned a long list of them to clean the sea sponge.
I just gotta say the salesman who convinced her to buy the organic house of microbes and pathogens found the perfect target to sell to.

What nonsense are you talking .. omg.. how can synthetic ones be better??? Natural Sea Sponges are some of the simplest multicellular organisms alive. ... One of the many benefits of using natural sea sponges for bathing and washing is that they contain enzymes that make them naturally antibacterial, and inhibit the growth of bacteria, mildew and mold.
