No internet. no cable, A friend gave me this VHS when I was a kid in the 80s. It was a copy of a copy. And then I made a copy and it changed my life. Such was life back in the day.
I loved this band Michael had back then. The first time I saw him live was on this very tour, near Chicago. I'll always remember how high energy Michael and the entire band was.Such a fun memory.
Such a great concert. Love Chris Rodriguez and Wayne Kirkpatrick doing their thing. Totally missed Warren Ham being part of this band. That is awesome!
@@juniorbulhoes4121 I’m not sure what you’re asking. I had replied to the original poster that Warren Ham wasn’t the sax player in the band, because I was.
This is simply THE best concert in the history of mankind. It’s very inspirational, and as a musician can say that the music is expertly written and performed. I have not been able to obtain this in either music or video formats. Too bad. This takes me back to some good times in my life when I was really growing in the Lord. Thank you for sharing this on your channel.
One of my favorite musicians, who inspired me to be a keyboardist....most of the instruments I recognize on the video...Yamaha DX1 & DX7, a Memorymoog synth, LinnDrum, Roland TR-909 drum machine 😄😀🎹🥁🎸🎷🎤
Yeah, he used a GS-2 on Amy's Age to Age tour. I still use a couple modified Ultimate Support tube stands like the backup keyboardist (Mark Heimermann?) is using.
mpmattson I've seen pics of both the Yamaha GS1 and GS2. They have that somewhat acoustic piano look, with the three pedals on the bottom, but they're actually piano style synthesizers 😊, the GS2 looking more slimmer though..and yes, that Mark Heimmerman in the red shirt on the keys. He's credited playing additional keys on some of MWS' early albums..
MWS also inspired me to play keyboards in late 80's.. I really miss those years.. :( But also John Lawry from PETRA.. today's music need this kind of inspirational music arrangements..

This is the video which made me want to get into playing and performing live music as a teenager. It was a life changing event for me. I don't really follow Michael anymore, since he changed his sound and went more into the worship vein. I think he followed his heart, which is great. But this is when his music really spoke to me personally. I still think this and The Big Picture tour were incredible concerts with some amazing musicians and songs. In my opinion Chris Rodriguez on guitar was a huge part of what I loved about the sound of this band. It's awesome to see that he has continued on to great things since this time.
Such an amazing concert! I remember seeing it for the first time in my church youth group as a teenager. It's so amazing to watch it again 36 years later! Thank you for the upload! 🎶😊🎶
It's great to hear songs from the second album performed live. I was introduced to Smitty's music when the Go West Young Man album was popular, so when I went back and listened to his early albums it always felt like the second album had more of a mellow vibe than the others. But Michael really put a lot of energy and passion into this performance, as did the entire band.
Wow, I know there was a little break in the middle, but that was absolutely grueling! The amount of energy that entire band kept up through the whole show was incredible! Even the fans looked tired at the end! LOL. Amazing job and I have to concur with some of the other comments on this video - I miss THIS Michael W Smith!
Thank you for posting this! I was there in the front row with my youth group. I've seen myself and my friends several times on this video, and am flooded with memories. How cool to see my fourteen-year-old self! Love it!!!
I wish these great old concert videos would be re-released on DVD. With bonus features! Especially "Change Your World Live". Not only had that one, but saw Michael with DC Talk the night before it was taped! 5/1/93
Me too, Braheem! :D I didn't even know Smitty existed at the time, now he's my favorite artist and I revisit these old concerts just cause I still have an appreciation for his pop music, older and newer! Call me weird, it's what I like! :D
Que saudade dos anos 80!! Aluguei muito a fita em VHS desse show e agora podemos assistir no You Tube...que maravilha!!!!! Vários anos se passaram e o Michael continua alegrando nosso coração com suas canções.

Thanx so much. I was looking for this concert quite for a while. When I saw the vid in 86 it was a new standard in christian music. MWS unfortunately IMHO has later abandonded this way and merged into mainstream
Nice. His best band by far was on the Change Your World Tour, a shame the audio of that video is so werid. That video needs a remaster from original tapes.
It looks like the drummer at 1:12:04 is wearing an Earl Campbell (#34) jersey. Luv Ya Blue! The entire concert reminds me of something Journey, Styx or REO did at its peak. Lots of AOR love! He's not quite as good as Steve Perry vocally but he's at least as comparable to Jason Scheff (Chicago).
I know it's not PC to say anything derogatory about Christian Musicians but I am very disappointed in Michael W Smith in the last 20 years. He used to be a trendsetter, writing some of the best Christian Rock songs. Now he's just following the fad of Praise and Worship music which is the equivalent of disco. It is easy to write, doesn't say much other than "Jesus I love you yeah, yeah, yeah." Michael needs to go back to his roots. I saw him at the "Live the Life tour" which was probably the last good album he made, in my opinion.
I know _exactly_ how you feel. All his original content was so incredible and meaningful because it told stories and really engaged your mind and emotions. My older brother and I stopped listening to MWS when he started making worship albums. And yeah, I get the value of worship music being simple enough so anyone can join along, but those of us spoiled on quality compositions just can't stomach the simplified, unoriginal songs that get pushed out. It's like asking someone who's been dining on quality food for most of their life to just stop and eat nothing but fast food.
I don't believe Mike has a say in what he's recording lately. His record label is giving him a direction that will make them money. Praise and worship is hot right now. That's what's best for business. I too love the 80's and 90's of Christian music. I hope their come another resurgence of more original songwriting in Christian music like the 80's/90's soon.
I hear what you're saying and I basically agree - I don't think he's made a great album since "Live the Life", either. He HAS made non-worship albums in the last 15 years ("Stand" and "Healing Rain") but they're mostly MOR/adult contemporary songs. But on the other hand, Michael is in his late 50's now, and if he tried to sound like Eminem or Justin Timberlake or Foo Fighters or One Direction, everyone would just accuse him of trying too hard to "stay young". He's probably better off just making the kind of music he enjoys at this stage of his life. He's got nothing left to prove.
+Brian Vermeer I don't know if you and the other guys who commented on this really hear what you are saying. So you want him to make music to make you happy. I had this on VHS and totally played it out in the 90s. Awesome show!🎹🤟
Yeah me too
That was the Toto of CCM bands! A who’s who of amazing session artists. Wayne went on to huge success in songwriting with Amy and other notables.
True. Everyone in that band went on to do so much more.
That was when music bands where at the top of their game.
Such a great concert. Love Chris Rodriguez and Wayne Kirkpatrick doing their thing. Totally missed Warren Ham being part of this band. That is awesome!

MWS 2, such an underappreciated album. Argyle pastels and all!
Not for me. His first 2 albums are his best. And i like his new albums as well.

Nothing but the blood of Jesus...my fave tune...! I was 7 years old at those year...
The musicianship is superb and the message is awesome :)
The version of Restless Heart on here is the best. I used to have it recorded on an old VHS tape....thanks so much for posting the whole show!
U know it's old when you realize Michael W. Smith once had a beard :)
Still rocking in 2024

I saw him a couple of years ago. Still as good as ever. This is so 80's!. The hair, the electric drums and the obligatory Dx7. Lol
What a beautiful show!!!!
