Gonzo Animatronic Update! WIP Muppets Traffic Safety Show Animatronic Restoration

Here’s a current update on my Gonzo Animatronic from the Muppets Traffic Safety Show. This figure was made by Advanced Animations sometime in the 80s.

In the puppet-making world; Gonzo is probably one of the most difficult Muppet to make a faithful puppet replica of, period. So, to say this restoration (for such a unique iteration of Gonzo being an animatronic figure) was going to be an undertaking would be an understatement. That being said, your Gonzo bot so far is looking amazing!
Don't beat yourself too hard about accuracy. The truth is that not even the most professional puppet replica builders can't even perfectly replicate Gonzo. Great work!

You have done a really good job in getting Gonzo to look like he did in the ride. I too have never been or even seen the ride even though I would of been around during the time it was running in malls or wherever you would of seen it. I know I would have LOVED every bit of it too! Thanks for restoring Gonzo back to his original self from the ride. Can't wait for more to come!

As someone who went through a phase of watching at least one muppet project a day for months on end, he looks near perfect! He looks amazing and even the parts that weren't arguably the most accurate felt like they added charm to the character. Thank you so much for restoring him and even more allowing us to join. I can't wait to see what he looks like when he's finished!

Looking good so far! The hair things on his head were ostrich plumes in the original puppet IIRC.

You should make a show tape of Gonzo singing, "I'm going to go back there someday" from the Muppet Movie when Gonzo is done. I actually like how Gonzo looks as of now, even the seam down his nose. It makes him look like a stuffed toy Gonzo. Keep up the good work! 🎬

You may try nyla fleece / Antron fleece for the face, it’s called “puppet fleece” and is designed to hide the seams
