I got a little emotional when you spoke about the kindness of the local people in smaller towns. The restaurant owner showed so much hospitality and it really touched me. These kind of people are a dying breed around the world. It's simple acts of kindness that really make a difference on us.

One time I was purchasing only ONE cookie and didn't have any cash, only my ATM the owner insisted to take it and pay later, I explained I was traveling and maybe not going back, she add 2 more to the bag and said it's was a gift for me. She was so very nice.
I went back 3 years later, she did remember me.......

Your travel videos are absolutely magical, Rachel. My eyes teared up a couple of times, watching the deer and listening to the clapping people at the shrine. Thank you for sharing how wonderful the rural areas of Japan can be!
A friend of my son's spent several months traveling through the Japanese countryside several years ago. His facebook posts showed a lot of similar things, and I noticed in both your videos and his stories how much Japanese people enjoy talking to travelers and showing their ways of life to people who are interested.
If I had the opportunity, I would love to spend a year traveling around Japan, meeting people and learning about their lives! Ah, who am I kidding, I'd live to travel the world doing that!! 😁
I think that's one reason I love TH-cam- I may not be able to do it myself, but I can tag along with my favorite content creators, exploring the world through their cameras. Thank you for letting me see Japan through your lens!

Ever since that new haircut video I can't stop watching Rachel's hair. So smooth and pretty, even after swimming in a sea. Never again bad hair day due to Japanese humid weather. It's a bit sad, I want to see Japan but end up watching her hair, but I can't help it, it's just too pretty not to look at.

These videos are just so wow. Always so short. Involving, emotional, beautiful. Such a great approach to traveling videos. Just by watching this 99% of the viewers would go there right now if they could. It makes want to drop my job, sell my stuff, break my phone in pieces, grab the person I love the most and just live in that place forever. That's what I wanna do right now.

The preservation of these cultures is so vastly important, especially showing the younger people still practicing archery sports in traditional clothing. Shikoku is definitely a similar place! I'm in Saijo in Ehime and despite being locally famous for the 88 temple pilgrimage, I had definitely never heard of it when I was placed here! Our October festival involving massive danjiri is coming up soon and I'm really excited to experience it for the first time! I'm so happy to be here in the inaka, despite the somewhat lack of convenience, because you really do get the impression that you're experiencing real Japan.

that part with the shop owner giving you umbrellas made me actually cry :(
how rare do I see people so caring for just strangers they've met once :( maaaaan this is so beautiful. where I come from sonething like this never happens, literally never. In japan so many people are so selfless, they are raised with the belief to take care of your family, thinking about others while here we have an established ego-society, everyone thinks about themselves first, and it's just considered "natural" that way :(
I just went to a book store 2 days ago and again experienced an older lady calling a man out, she knocked over some stuff on a shelter and that guy just freaking smiled at her and kindly laughed... she was so rude and cussed at why hes thinking thats funny, literally calling him (translated) "son of a b*tch"...
or once I worked a couple of months in fast food restaurant, you are literally being treated like shit, especially from customers :(
I often cried after work in the bathroom, I took this (very low paid job) seriously and tried my best but still people here have no patience with you and are STRAIGHT UP rude, telling you to your face that you are shit, suck etc :(
I hate it so much here, I want to live in a country with a tradition and culture of kindness like japan

What a sweet man, that makes the trip even better I'm sure. He was not required to give those umbrella's, but yet he did. But I have a feeling with everything so close together that they all already know that you are walking around there. In a small town talk about visitors often goes rather quickly throughout the whole town.
Nice place to walk around and take photo's, love the scenery and the hidden culture.

That's exactly what happened to me when I went to Japan and nobody believed me! I was in a small village taking rural pictures when it started pouring like absolute heavy rain, so I ran to find shelter and an old lady owning a shop close by spotted me and started running after me in the rain to offer me an umbrella she had in her hand. Everyone says I exaggerate with that story. Sure she didn't run a long way after me, but it was one of the kindest gestures I've seen when I was there. I'll never forget that ♥

An old lady in a Udon place also lent me an umbrella when I was visiting Fushimi-inari in Kyoto. These shop owners in Japan are really nice people. (I bought one in another store, and gave the umbrella back to the lady after the visit of the shine.)

0:51 Watch out, Rachel! Those are the signs of the terrifying gang Children of the Empty String, said to have brought the ancient tradition of air guitar to Japan. They are not to be trifled with.

That's interesting that the people in more rural parts of Japan are much more social and friendly. When I was in Taiwan, I found that people in every area, regardless if I was in the biggest city or more rural town, they were all equally as chatty and friendly.

I really want to go here ^^ I love such sweet people ... it's pretty rare to find someone in America that would love to talk to you and give you umbrellas for free when it rains

The taiwanese girl also blogging in the back was echoing exactly what rachel was saying. That with the music made it seem even more dramatic and heartwarming. "They are so kind!." etc et ~3:07

The deer reminds me of a very old and trusting stag. He lived near my parents' house and was the only one who ate out of his hand. The special about him was his antlers. He was a capital twelve. Capital means to a deer that this is big, beautiful and stately. He is usually the most beautiful animal in the herd and is shot very rarely. The twelfth transmitter that lived near my parents' home was over 12 years old.
