Yes. I suffered from the David Leadbetter/Jimmy Ballard way of thinking for decades. I concentrate now on my hands swinging proportional to the rotation of the shoulders. A split-grip drill is what I use to teach me this. Then all my swing speed and control comes from a combination of straightening my right arm and my synchronization of my wrists from radial deviation to ulnar deviation back to radial deviation.
Can I ask you two questions please How important is ulnar deviation in the golf swing, is it a deal breaker? What would be the negative effects of not having ulnar deviation? thanks in advance 🙏
Excellent formula for a tension free effortless swing. My big takeaway is turning the chest target wards while at the same time trying to keep the sterrmum pointing back- almost a contradiction but really a feel for a better faster release through the ball powered by the arms and hands.
Ron by covering the ball , are you bending at the waist, and literally covering the ball with your chest until your weight fully turns through to your front side and then gently release the hands and arms?
Shawn Clements has his students literally throw a club down range and this has never really clicked with me. A combination of back to target as long as possible and throwing the club or skipping the rock/throwing a ball at the ground, its finally clicked.. I think.. and this video showed up just in time to confirm what I've started doing. Its painfully aggravating how "coaches" muck the swing up so much......
Mark, I have no idea how I missed this question. My sincerest apologies. Without seeing the swing, I can only speculate on why you may be hooking the ball. You could be running into too much spine tilt (face on) away from the target, before the point of contact, causing the path to get too shallow and too in-to-out, thus leading to a higher rate of closure in the clubface. This could be one of the main causes but not the only cause. Hope that helps you Mark and hope you're doing great.
@@MyGolfDNA Thanks Chris. I mean for people in general. I really want to let the club head go but my brain screams “nooooo it’s going to go hard left (right handed) and I’ve fallen into the “ hold the club head “ through the ball so minimum ROC but end up with 2 way miss, chicken wing etc
Not good and not fun at all. We are in overseed mode down here in Florida and the people that make the grass grow at the facility I teach/film at, prefer that I don't take divots for the next few weeks, which is not ideal but the show must go on:)

a question about opening your hips. Are you actively opening your hips or is it more a product of club and arm momentum. Thanx

Always good to have that last little bit of affirmation. Wishing you much success with the changes and let me know if you need any help along the way.
Thanks Chris. What could the factors be that cause me to hook the ball when I try to do this?

Is it good to practise on a higher platform? It looks like you hit from an inch high mat.
