Aja is a milestone album, and Peg might be the jewel of it : Fagen/Becker inspired composition, over the top arrangements and musicians at their best, Rainey on bass, Jay Graydon on solo guitar and the magical overdubbed Michael Mc Donald vocals. BTW, good job on cover, young lady. 👍
I always [very] silently wondered to myself: “Self? Really? Not Donald nor Walter, nor Katz or any number of assistant engineers, -all with the ears of a savant wearing a stethoscope over cochlear implants, heard “slap-bass” from their A-list session bassist on their sonically impeccable follow-up record?” Haha. -Then again, it could’ve totally been like take #44! And they truly “never knew it was going down”. Ha. I am convinced however, they heard it on playback, and decided Chuck was right to “go down” there!
I was totally geeking on this song today and watching the covers. You're one of the few to slap in a critical part that Chuck Rainey felt important. Awesome!
I picked this video because of the good view of the fretboard..(a lot of covers you can't even see what's being played..).. But this version is killer playing, too! Nice work!
I guess I’m just the “Wow Guy!” I can’t believe how effortlessly you do this. Thank you so much for doing these Steely Dan covers. You’re a joy to watch and learn from.
Emelie, So beautifully played and watching carefully learned from you how to play this. Your right hand was the part I needed to study and “it clicked”. Still working on the slap section…still learning your thumb 😊 Thank you!
I regret to inform you those are only 2 notes played at the same time, thus, by definition not a chord. That doesn't make the playing any less impressive though 🤩
What a great cover, especially nailing all the ghost notes in this track (and there are many). Great tone, feel, and timing! Only thing I would question is whether the strings were a bit dead at this point? Not tryna criticise, just a question/observation 🤗
I'm asking for your advice. I don't know if this is the right way to do it.. I bought a long neck base and find it difficult to play with my short fingers. Do you suggest getting a short neck bass or keep going?
I also have small hands, so I know the struggle haha. It might be easier with a short scale bass, but you have to keep in mind the differences in how it will sound and feel like. What worked for me was using a short scale bass almost exclusively for a while. It really helped with my technique, and it made it easier to play long scale basses as well. It's also possible to just keep practicing and figure out what workes with your body. Maybe you could try one out before buying to see if you like it?
Aloha! Nice groove with the fingers, slapping section is slightly rushed. Partly because your pops are too short (just finished Berklee on line slap bass course with Anthony Vitti and this is one key element he stressed to me is to get as much pitch and tone in your thumbing and poping technique. He didn't like it when my pops were staccato.) Keep at it! Sounds good!

Sure made that look easy. Nice job. Nice looking bass too. 👍🏻
Excellent ! You got the syncopation in the slap part down just right! I’m not there yet.
I’ve watched about a half dozen bass covers of this tune and she has the best overall sound and groove for it.
Bravo.
Great! They asked Chuck Rainey not to slap but he got away with it (in the chorus).
they had no idea it went down!
@@braedeenn You'd need to ask Chuck about the thumb thing
He said he set up a small curtain that he sat behind so they couldn't see
I just learned about that! How dare they tell CHuck Rainey what to do LOL!

Awesome! Glad to see young people still playing analog instruments. She was raised right.

Perhaps the most perfect pop song ever.
I was totally geeking on this song today and watching the covers. You're one of the few to slap in a critical part that Chuck Rainey felt important. Awesome!

Sweet bass and technique. Make it look easy.

Your face tells me "Chuck Rainey? Big deal, give me something tough to play!" That is some really nice slap and pop, well done!
I picked this video because of the good view of the fretboard..(a lot of covers you can't even see what's being played..).. But this version is killer playing, too! Nice work!
Awesome job! Your plucking hand looks so effortless with those string skips, pinky mutes, and rakes. Something to aspire to.
