Just got into heli's with a Trex 470L running a microbeast and spektrum radio gear which is very new to me. Coming from 10years of fpv quads i'm quite up to speed and spoilt with all the wonderful opensource gifts that the community has brought to the table: betaflight, EDGE TX, ELRS and HDzero (not opensource but very community driven). I was a bit shocked and perplexed to learn what FBL (flight controllers) and radio gear costs for helis comnapred to quads. I'me very excited for Rotorflight and have gotten myself a Matek G474, it's going to be a learning curve but hopefully i can make it work. I love how opensource projects pave the way for innovation because it's driven by the needs and enthusiasm of the users and not the profits of companies. I supprt open source projects where i can.
Recently heard of rotorflight. I am so excited to see the development of version 2. Thanks for this video! It gives me al the more reason to continue supporting Rotorflight
This is very interesting. im a 13 yr heli pilot, 3/450s, 1/550 and 4/600s (all belted), DX9/Spektrum/Castle/Gold warriers/Vbar software. Only just got into FPV 5 months ago and very new to it, just finnished building 3 racing quads all F405s/Bluejay/5"/ELRS/TX16. Very cool stuff. Now ive run out of things to do and came across this video. I have a T600E Pro 2nd hand i bought 6 yrs ago thats been sitting on the shelf and ive just installed ESC and a mini warrier on 12s, not flown or tested yet, waiting for packs. Hmmmmmmmm, gunna put this project on hold and buy this FC.
Rotorflight 2 is simply amazing! I have converted my old Logo 400 and Trex 450 helis and they fly brilliantly, not to mention RPM and current draw telemetry! I'm hoping OMP will release their M2 with a Rotorflight FC.
Rotorflight is the best. I just want to mention that I fly my helicopters FPV, and Rotorflight is the ONLY option that has camera and OSD support. It also natively supports ELRS, which I also use.
A very valid point and something I completely forgot about. IMHO rotor flight is a massive game changer and totally shaking up the markets. 12 months from now will be a very different landscape!
Awesome topic, I've been trying out version 1, and have been following the V2 development and looking forward to its final release. In the past I had used Vbar and other systems but found the them to be locked in time, and ended up stopping flying. I think RF is super exciting and definitely the future.
@@RTRCTV As a video idea it would be really interesting to see how you configure RF. I'm also interested to see how you setup what looks like a quad ESC.
Thinking of using Rotorflight as my first FBL controller using the Matek board, I much prefer open source as a whole and fact I can get the Matek for £36 vs £180+ for any of the other FBL's out there is just insane, I do have some slight concerns as a beginner but can't see why it wouldn't be as safe as the more expensive options
I'm just getting into helis, been flying fix wing for a long time. I am almost ready to maiden my OMP M2 V2, still practicing on a sim and learning to hover, fly, etc. After seeing your video, I am considering looking at Rotorflight for it. I see that you have modified you M2 and wonder if you would consider a video detailing the conversion?
I recommend you drop past the discord group for rotorflight. There are allot of ways to tackle conversions -but in all cases it will require swapping out the fbl to a different unit. On the little ones it's normally a 16x16 or 20x20 mini quad stack. Lots of guidance on this on discord.
@@RTRCTV Thanks for the reply. I found the discord channel and am looking through it. I have a XK K110s on the way, hope to try RF on it too.

Hey mate, I am setting up an Oxy 4 max with the matek fc rotorflight v2. My cyclic and esc is all set up but I can't get my tail servo to work properly. The servo itself is fine, I plugged it into a cyclic port to test it. Even when using servo override for the tail servo, it doesn't really move properly in most of the range, and even lets me move it around by hand. And when I arm it there is no movement of the servo to correct for yaw deviations. Feeling pretty stumped because there are no tutorials for it.
Hey.. Assume you soldered up the board your self? Strikes me that maybe the servo pin has either got a dry solder joint or a bridge somewhere. If the servo works in the other ports.. Chances are that's the issue
forgot to add it shows a servo for the rear rotor i want to use a drone motor so id have to use just a single drone esc plug it into the unit but how would i configure that port to do the esc?
This is not really the right channel for support. Suggest you join the rotorflight discord. But in short - yes you can use a motorised tail with a drone esc. This is how I have setup my goosky s1
Yup. Of course. However you won't get the lua scripts. I imagine possible for them to be ported to work on a jeti -but will need a Dev with a jeti to do the work.
Hey.. Simple answer is likely - yes. But has it been well tested on nitro - not yet. There are a few people now installing on nitro so we will have a clearer picture soon of any issues on the platform.
@@jamieboehm3076 rotorflight is not for everybody - it's getting easier all the time and has a wealth of support on discord and Facebook. Have you asked for help?
Ardupilot has a lot more features and support for trad heli for a long time. Its a bit complicated to setup. Plenty of flight controller boards support both arudcopter and betaflight/rotorflight so you can try both and most cost far less than a traditional FBL unit.
@@RTRCTV it will be great to have two well developed options and still iNav can be made to work too even. Ardpilot if you want more GPS controlled stuff and rotor flight for more acro oriented heli. It will be sweet to be able to try both on the same heli wiht the right board.

Why do u not showing us setting up the helicopter FC with Rotorflight or Betaflight??
Because making videos tutorial takes allot of time. Time I don't have at the moment.
