ABANDONED BUS GRAVEYARD OR ARE THEY NOT?

  • To day we travel to abandoned bus graveyard there are buses from 1960s right up to the 1990s. I believe national express bought a load of buses back in the day so that other bus companies could buy second-hand buses.

I would respectfully suggest that both the words "abandoned" and "graveyard" are amended.
They are neither abandoned nor dead and saying they are, might give some er... people..the wrong impression.
If I recall correctly, this is the storage area for the Selnec preservation group, that intend to restore as many of these examples of long gone Manchester buses, to their former glory.
At the time they were being withdrawn, it was simply felt to be a case of buy it now and restore it later, or miss out and then seriously regret it later.
So they stand here awaiting their turn to be restored.

Thank you for your comment I amended the title I hope it helps if you know anyone who could let me in to do a full story on them how much appreciate it and I think it would give everyone the right idea what's going to happen to them after speaking to the security he told me a group called selection owned them but I cannot find any information on them💯💖👍

@@theurbanlegenduk1760. Many thanks for that. Much appreciated.
I did know someone from there, but he passed away a few years ago, so now I do not. One line might be via the Manchester Museum of Transport at Queen's Road, but I believe that as an organization, they haven't always seen eye to eye with Selnec group.
So the person you might talk to at GMTS may tell you everything you want to know, or deny they exist. Pot luck I'd say. But it's a start.
      Hope this helps.
      Cheers.

@@rikkilamb No, I don't think these will be restored. They need towing to Barnsley and be pulled apart with the claw crane. Then put them through the shredder to recycle the metals. Or, bring a claw on site and mobile shredder. I could scrap this lot in a couple of weeks.

National express didn't necessarily buy all these up, there are Stagecoach buses in that compound, which they did buy a lot of operators up. But when bus deregulation started in Oct 1986, a lot of little companies started up. The national bus company which owned national express sold off the companies, some at ridiculously small amounts of money. Then it eventually became big five companies that held the monopoly. These been go ahead, national express, arriva, first bus ,and Stagecoach, which incidentally at the moment national express are waiting the for the go ahead to complete the purchase of Stagecoach.
