  • Two microbit computers are used in this scenario. One for the robot Maqueen Plus, MAQ1 and the other schedules and controls traffic signals. The goal is for MAQ1 to stop when a red signal is presented and proceeds along the robot track when it get a green signal.
Lego parts are used for the traffic signals and housing and the signals are driven by a M5Stack 180 degree servo which is Lego compatible. A kittenBot RobotBit servo driver is coupled to a microbit to control the traffic signals. In addition this microbit turns on neopixel LED traffic lights.
MAQ1's AI vision is quite a challenge in this environment as it uses polling to detect the colour object - traffic signal for just a short time and yet has to also maintain control for tracking the line on the robot mat. Lighting conditions are also critical in the application. It has been calibrated for room lights to be on. Turn off the lights and it does not work.
Accuracy can be improved by training MAQ1 for different traffic signal scenarios to improve reliability.
I purchased the Maqueen Plus Robot and HuskeyLens from DFRObot in Shanghai China.
