The chances of this group coming together was so infinitesimally small that only the powers that be in the universe could have made it happen. I’m glad they decided to do that to allow us mere mortals to have something to brighten our days. Three kids meet as children who love to sing and decide to keep singing together in school and local theater. As a side note, can you imagine trying to keep those three reigned in in high school choir? Scott, Mitch and Kirstie say that she did help them learn to blend better. They become life-long friends. Scott befriends Ben Bram who helps Scott get on The Sing Off. Ben introduces Scott to Avi. Scott talks Kevin into giving up med school at Yale and joining four strangers to compete on The Sing Off. They actually win the show. Sony drops them so they decide to start building their Pentaholic following on You Tube. Viral videos, and great music follows, and they get resigned to Sony. Avi decides to leave the group and they find another great bass in Matt. While Matt is not Avi, he is still excellent and I think he blends even better with the other members of PTX. If anything happens differently along that path Pentatonix does not exist, and the world is a lesser place.
They are definitely next level. Their versatility is what makes them stand out for me among the rest. They are capable of doing so many genres. This is a beautiful rendition of Shallow made even more so by Kirstin's lead and Kevin's haunting cello.
I'm telling ya, you should watch Say Something. Very similar in that Kevin plays the cello and Kirstie takes the lead and it can also get you a little glassy-eyed.
I've been a Pentaholic for a couple years now and I just discovered a song like last week: "Rather Be" - Clean Bandit cover. Kirsten takes a strong lead in her lower register. Scott and Mitch sing backup harmonies adorably. Kevin and Avi are.... well, you know. You'll love it.
I told you that was a good one!!! When Kirsty starts belting it gets very emotional...I'm 72 yrs old and I tear up every time I listen to this...not only was Kirsty amazing but Scott & Mitch were incredible as well & we even got a little cello boxing from Kevin too....you are right there are no words to describe this group...great reaction D !!!

Their talent individually is beyond understanding and as a group defies logic. They sing as if music has a higher purpose than we mere mortals are capable of understanding. I had completely forgotten because when I first read that comment on another reactor’s video, I searched my brain and couldn’t think of another example (I don’t necessarily count stuff from The Sing Off as part of their official catalog). The mash up was more like theater/acting/comical. Shallow is a whole different thing IMO.
I kinda think they have an issue with looking at each other and not busting out laughing....especially in a romantic way. They are bestest friends, and both silly. It was a beautiful moment tho'. Scott often looks with admiration at the other members of the group while singing. I love the deep respect they have for each other's talent.

Not only are they friends and giggly, but they are also exes from high school, so it might be uncomfortable in that sense. Because Kirstie was probably in to him back then and for him it might be triggering to his "in the closet"-days. So in general I think they avoid it a bit. Although... some of their Havana choreography is quiiiiite close, haha.

I think the history between Scott and Kirstie (Scott has said he "fell madly in love" upon meeting her in his Freshman English class) makes this particular performance more meaningful. There may not be a romance, but there is a deep love there.
