Thanks for the great review. I was literally just about to buy this cabinet, but the line of sight issue is a real show stopper. I'm 5' 11" and really don't want to take the risk of buying something that's too uncomfortable to stand in front of to play.
Anytime man! My reviews are my honest opinions and I would never steer someone to buy something that I just done recommend myself. Definitely need to be quality tested more than it was. And it’s disappointing.
Thanks for the review. I, for one, am very glad to see Arcade1up finally make the Asteroids type cabinet, correctly. You definitely need to get hold of the 3, or 4 inch riser kit, or a fridge / appliance cart to put it on. I'm only 5.5-ish, and I still had to put a few of my cabs on fridge carts, so I'm pickin' up what your puttin' down. At the end of the day, these are 3/4 scale, and no matter what A1up does to them, some people are gong to encounter screen cut-off, to some degree. The only way around that is the riser kit, or appliance cart. The only thing holding me back on this cab, is the side art is not from a real cabinet. Still, it is a celebratory cabinet, so, there's that. It's tempting. At least it has the BOE monitor. Right?
Thanks for the honest review, I've been eyeing it since it was announced. I can get it for $400 and change, but I guess I can probably afford to wait since holidays are a few months away and the atari units usually hit $300ish like you said. I just like that AVGN spin with "these are games you play alone in the middle of the night" and the lit buttons on the black body capture that 80s space age feel
it seems like 1UP should want reviews from guys that lived first hand the arcade history, I never see a guy review these that is old enough to tell if these things were like the originals
Great review Danny!! It’s true that for a company being this far they should have had quality control before releasing as far as the screen, with that said is it the end the world no, but could had made it on a lower angle. Hope you can keep all your cabs but thats the hobby we are in have to sell to bring in new cabs. 👊🏼
Nice video, I am thinking about getting this arcade1up but seeing you stand next to it makes it look tiny and i'm 6'6! So I was wondering if you can fit a standard arcade1up riser underneath?
Nice review and really fair criticism on the screen height and angle. Wish they would either tip the screen angle back or offer two precut angles, one vertical and one tipped way back. It just works for me standing at 5’10” but the combination of marquee sticking out and screen vertical makes you wonder why they don’t QC test with you and other 1ups fans before mass production.
hey cornercade its me again question for you i missed out on Centerpeed gen 1 and i missed out on centerpeed legacy now its sold out been deing to to play centerpeed on tracball the only way to do that currently is atari 50th thinking of getting it but would you say its the exact same shape as centerpeed legecy or this cab is shape diffrantly ??? was thinking if its shaped same i could reskin it as a centerpeed but if its a diffrent shape then its worthless better wait for centerpeed deluxe
Ok, i played MH a couple of minutes ago on my centipede cabinet (and made the highscore lol). There is still no update available to use the spinner. Since both cabinets use the same online leaderboards it would make no sense if you could use the spinner on the one cab but not on the other... Have a great day!
@@senderxxiii2112 MH without the spinner would feel awkward. I just went from elated to depressed. You got me riding that emotional rollercoaster. Heh. Thanks for the info!
Cornercade, I agree, the cabinet artwork is beautiful on the Atari 50! But in order for me to add it to my Home Arcade, something would have to go, and I already have a classic Atari machine, Arcade1Up's Tempest, and Atari 50 can't beat the look of Tempest for me. I really wanted this cabinet, because it not only has the best Atari 2600 game on it, Breakout, but 2600 Breakout is also one of the greatest video games ever made! I'm sure the spinner would work great to play Breakout even though it originally controlled with a paddle (which has stops). Quality control checks from my experience with Arcade1Up are rare and it shouldn't be a surprise here. Line of sight issues have been prevalent on several cabs, and like you put it, making them sitdown only for taller individuals. And speaking about quality control, the trackball on my Tempest cab is low quality and you can't move it quickly, or the movement stops, yet the trackball is excellent on my Atari Deluxe 12 in 1 making games like Centipede play well. The lack of quality checks and quality consistency have been an unfortunate staple with Arcade1Up. Each cab is a gamble for sure. The monitor on the Atari 50 looks AMAZING! I'm glad they treated this BOE right! I'm planning on getting Arcade1Up Time Crisis now that Buy Stuff Store has an upgrade kit to the Retro Shooter box. That'll add SO MANY more lightgun games to it and I'm probably going to opt in for the 6 button control panel with high quality IRL joystick to be able to play an AMAZING version of Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 on it. I'm glad that cabinet has come down in price. Thanks again for another great review! I hope the next release from Arcade1Up is a cabinet you've been looking for :) vgv
@BrooksFavorites Thanks for the update. Leave it to Arcade1Up to screw it up. I'd be more angry if I was actually going to buy it. They can keep this HUGE MISSTEP. Thanks again! vgv
We have the arcade seats so the cutoffs should not be an issue. We do have the Tempest Atari classic cabs already, but this cab has so many more games on it, I can't wait to try it out. We are getting it tomorrow.
@@TheCornerCade got to play with it a little bit and I’m impressed so far. There is a cutoff on Astroids Deluxe which kind of shocked me, but I do like the look and feel of the cabinet. It was also easier to put together than some of the other Deluxe cabs. I love that there is no washout on the marquee and the colors appear very vibrant. The hardest part of this cab is figuring out the buttons situation on the 2600 games.
Good review. I would add that the joystick is really only a potential issue for 2600 games. I think the arcade title games only use the trackball, buttons and spinner. In person the cab looks really good. Maybe one too many 50s, but overall it is one of my favorite looking cabs. The Buy Stuff riser finishes it off. But I agree, should not have to do this at this point.
They need to make these in "build a bear" format. Meaning you build your own games library. They could offer a 10, 20 , 30 or ALL version. My main issue with these is they rarely have the games I want besides maybe a few.
Gotta love that the first piece you showcase has two flaws… always something with these. Bad monitor, no light up coin doors, bad speakers, Jenkee software, flush control deck, light up buttons that don’t turn off, etc. We’ve seen them do all these things right individually on some cabinets, but they just don’t seem to be able to put it all together for every cab.
Actually, cut-off is in Asteroids and Asteroids Deluxe. Such a disappointment. Given the cut-off and the shoddy 2600 implementation, if I had to do it over it would be a definite pass.
it's so easy to build one, I just made a riser platform out of MDF to stand my Space Invaders cab and the Atari 50 machines and made it 5.5 inches tall and seems perfect height to me.
I find it funny that this new gen & their obsession with the buttons on the game systems. Not the best of the best 😂😂😂 back in my days there were no thoughts about the buttons we just played them, didn’t care what the buttons felt like! 😂😂😂
They can, they just chose not to. You can easily emulate the game regardless of the PC specs you have and make the correct aspect ratio 4.3 not 16.9 like the always do 😅
The screen feels like it lunges forward from the top and feels like there's an angle. That's my con about it. I'll also get a riser for it from buy stuff.
@@TheCornerCade I've just built my own riser platform to house the Atari 50 and space invaders cab. Made it out of MDF and the height I made it was 5.5 inches and makes playing the machines so much better. I am 5ft 10 and the new height from the riser platform seems the perfect height to me.
Why, why, why is another Atari retro product have a fatal flaw?! The 2600 was my first console as a kid. Atari arcade games were at their peak. Atari arcade games need proper controls to enjoy them. Rollerball, check, spinner, check and bad joystick, what? To low to the ground to play standing. Bezel that is cut wrong. I had high hopes for this cabinet. I really just wanted high quality arcade game experience.
Buy a Switch, get the Atari 50 and a better 20" monitor. Same price, less space and WAY more games. 😉 Plus better emulation not compromised by A1Up. Wish they put a better chipset in this and had the actual Atari 50. That IMO would be worthy. $200 more probably.
