- Islam is the largest religion in Turkey according to the state, with 60% of the population being initially registered by the state as Muslim, for anyone whose parents are not of any other officially recognised religion and the remaining 0.1% are Christians or adherents of other officially recognised religions like
There is also a small group of ethnic Orthodox-Christian Turks (mostly living in Istanbul or Izmir) who follow the Greek Orthodox or Syriac Orthodox church and additionally Protestant Turks who still face difficulties regarding social acceptance and also historic claims to churches or property in the country because they are from recent converts from Muslim Turkish backgrounds (rather than ethnic minorities)

Then the slave life for the Greeks started in Macedonia, Asia Minor etc.
There were no independent Greek state for the next 2000 years and they disappeared from the map of the world as a separate political entity.
The mastership of the Greeks was passed on to Eastern Roman empire after the collapse of Western Roman empire in Rome circa 5th century AD.
In summary, Turks captured Istanbul in 1453 from Romans, not Greeks.
And after being a province of Ottoman empire for around 400 years, Greeks reappeared on History books as an independent state only during early 19th century, after 2000 years of absence as a political entity.
Greece was founded 200 years ago.
