    Too expensive too fiddly. Single link tracks which need hours of cleanup and assembly. But the deal killer is the fragile Zimmerit decals you have to pay extra and a premium for which don't stick without PVA or supergluing along the edges according to experienced modellers. PASS. Why it's price slashed on sale. Even then, pass. On any model which requires it, in 2023 I want moulded in Zimmerit as Dragon does.

    I think this stick on zimm would annoy me, I used a Cav set once and it wasn't to bad. I think I prefer having it already added like some of the newer Dragon kits. I am holding off on buying this kit due to the zimm and the fact that this version really needs to have it. If it didn't have to have zimm I would of bought it already. Nice vid Andy

    • @jamesbednar8625
      @jamesbednar8625 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Have also used a few of those Cav sets as well. They are OK, in my opinion. Am using an Eduard Zimmerit set for the ancient Tamiya Panther A and, must admit, the fit is just great - was not expecting that. Have not built anything yet with the Zimmerit already molded on.

  • @robinthompson5091
    @robinthompson5091 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I appreciate the video. I'm currently building the kit and have to say I wish you had spent way more time on the many fit issues with this kit rather than demonstrating again how to build, paint, and weather the metal tracks.. I'm glad you mention the road wheels on the torsion bar axels but you really understate just how much work it is to get them to fit correctly. Also the axels are way to flimsy for the job they do on this kit. If you don't get the side panels strait on when attaching them to the floor pan they can leave gaps at the rear hull plate. Not a huge deal fixed with filler but still should be mentioned. Tons of ejection pin marks and actually huge chunks of plastic attached to them that have to be carefully cut off. The instructions can be good to vague at best. They can leave far too much up for interpretation and that can cause part removal in a panic because you've already glued it. This kit is definitely NOT a beginners kit. So many tiny parts that it's pretty off putting and not in the wheel house of what I would consider a beginners kit. Beginners should stick with Tamiya and stay away from this MENG Panther. Oh the torsion bars all have an "extra" part that needs to be installed... I see no reason for this other than to add to the part count. The kit supplied individual link tracks are a nightmare. Too many parts and too much clean up. I can't even imagine using them in this kit. It would take 40 hours to complete them and by then I'd likely be ready to toss the kit. I can see why you chose the aftermarket metal tracks. By the way the Zimmerit is junk as well as the aftermarket tracks and suspension. I bought both and decided to use neither. I bought a set of metal tracks as well but I hate to waste them on this kit. I'll save them for some of the other Panthers coming out later this year. I've already got the RyeField Panther G on it's way so this kit is going into storage.The MENG kit may in the end build up okay but it is a poorly engineered kit at best. Like I said I appreciate the build video and honestly this is the first video I've had some issues with. I think you really understated a lot of engineering issues with this kit. More time on those issues would help all of us determine if this is a kit we want to invest time and money in. Again I DO NOT recommend this kit. Just because it hit the market first doesn't mean in any way it is the best.

    I am in the process of building Tamiya's ancient 1/35 Panther A. Have built it a few times in the past, and just decided to build it again for whatever reason. Figures - once I started building that kit, the ENTIRE industry is coming out with Panther A's!! Oh well, will have to see what comes out. Anyway, awesome video of this particular kit. Great job!!

    Hi Andy. A quick point about something I've noticed after watching a few of your (and some other pro-modeler's vids), from which I've happily learnt a heap of tricks, and which I very much enjoy. My point is about the rubber rims of tank road-wheels. Even within a short period of use the rubber takes a Hell of a battering and, although you guys do absolutely amazingly accurate jobs with attention to weathering etc, I've noticed that the rubber of the road-wheels pretty much invariably show no signs of cuts, welts, tears or other general abrasion and wear. Anyway, all the best.

    I think when you compare Dragon kits to all these new kits coming out....one can see how far ahead Dragon kits really were. Most of the zimmerit Dragon kits are 5-12 years old...yet when compared to the newer kits..still more than hold their own...and even surpass the newer kits in alot of detail.

    I have this kit on the way, if I could have found the Dragon Sd Kfz 171 Ausf A with zimm I would have bought that instead, you certainly made the application of the zimm decals look easier than I imagine it actually was.....when you mentioned the zimm decals looked flat that was a concern....I'm hoping Eduard put out a etch zimm set for this kit as I would certainly prefer it to the decal set.

    When you show your track mix formula and give your mixing ratios, how are you actually doing this? Are you filling an eye dropper and counting drops or are you approximating?
    Second question you said at the beginning of the Meng Panther video, you would at the end of the year you were going to comment on whose model of Panther was the "best". I realize you do not want to be so straight forward but it would be interesting to get another person's point on the construction (not the zimmermit or decals(but that would be an aside)) or let the subscribers do the reviewing comparison for you.

    Andy, if you lift the turret off do you have a silhouette of where it was? Whenever I spray camo as you do it seems to leave a dusting of overspray which means if I turn the turret to display, there's a clear outline of where it originally was placed.

    Great build ! Does the kit come with zimmerette ? I know you said they were available separately. I'm really glad you are doing all the new Panthers. I'm looking for a particular type to match a photo my dad had. I think it's from Das Reich because I know his division fought against them in the early days in France. Interesting as well is that the Panthers he saw had crosses on both sides of the turret. As my picture shows ?

    Is it just me or anyone else get annoyed when all model companies all pushing out same tank around same time?

    • @Panzermeister36
      @Panzermeister36 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't, since competition forces the companies to make good quality kits and it also keeps the prices down.

      Hi panzermeister, it's cool to see you here. Yes with all companies coming out the same tanks, the quality is getting better(some may getting worse) and the price may go down (espcially in Chinese market, the Hobbyboss T-29 is sold about 100Yuan, around 20CAD on Taobao); and the competition is already went hot in recent years. compare to companies like Tamiya, Hasagawa, and other Japanese companies, the Chinese companies seems really don't like eachother; why cann't they just get alone?
      It's fine for me that different companies make the same tank; however, why everyone have to push out the same tank around same time or right after another. For me it just feel odd. There are so many theme left to explore and why companies have to gamble and fight on the same series?
      This is one of reason why I like Tamiya more than Meng, Trumpeter, or Takom (three major powers in the model kit war; Dragon is GGed for quite a time) . Tamiya just stay at their style and makes the model which is unique.
      Well, let's see who is the next victims. If it's Stug, will you do the comparison video? :)

    • @Panzermeister36
      @Panzermeister36 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually, apparently the reason why so many Meng and Takom kits are the same is that I believe some Meng employees quit and moved to Takom, so they knew what products would be coming out. So that's why we have the King Tigers and the Panthers from the two companies announced at the same time. But I guess we also had Tamiya and Takom do AMX tanks simultaneously, Trumpeter and Takom announcing Maus tanks at the same time...

      not so sure about employee move around between Meng and Takom, I do read that Meng's founder was a Trumpeter employee. It seems like these employees really didn't get alone well with their employer...D:

      Karm Asutor That, sir, is a stupid question. How do you pronounce ‘comment’? Commint?

    • @Hunting_Party
      @Hunting_Party 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Karm Asutor Because it is language. You do not change the spelling just because it sounds differently. However it is entirely possible to correct one’s pronunciation with spelling.
