My name is Kaiya Pelletier and I am documenting my metal journey as I discover and listen to metal music for the first time ever. I'm in my mid 20's and I've been a singer songwriter and performer for over 10 years. Currently I live in Stillwater, Oklahoma and I am in the process of recording my 4th album. I have a one year old Bloodhound named Rusty who we lovingly call 'The Turd'. I love Mexican food, collecting Stephen King novels, collecting CD's, vinyl's and cassettes and my favorite movies are tied between Jurassic Park and Alien.
Current Moshpit Count: 31,328
What is your TOP 5 BEST albums this year? Anything surprise your or disappoint you this year? Thanks for watching!
Opeth's is my album of the year, maybe because i don't really put much expectations on what is gonna sound like since Mikael is just gonna do what he wants, hot take but i think i like it just as much as Still Life, Blackwater Park and Damnation are my favorites still.
Your top 1 is 🗑 lmao
Did you like the new Benighted?
I love deicide... I haven't heard their new album.. but thanks to you I am going to get it
Falling in Reverse is one of the worst bands of all time
100% agree
It’s concerning that she had them on her list lol
I never understood their appeal and never will
Absolutely correct
Six feet under on the same level to Ulcerate...amazing jajaja
Opeth - 6/10
Ulcerate - 6/10
Nile - 6/10
TRASH ASS SIX FEET UNDER 🤣 6/10
Let that sink in for a moment
Honestly I agreed with every SINGLE one of your takes except Opeth. My goodness they made a masterpiece with this one and the integration of funk, jazz, and traditional prog touches only adds to it. Totally dug the concept, too. I wasn’t hearing the “happy”, either, to be straight.
Great list overall though! Subbing 🤟🏼
The problem is that Opeth sells it to you as a good Prog Death Metal album when in reality it is Prog Rock aka Heritage II.
Don't get me wrong, it is a good prog rock album because it is not a prog death metal album and just because it has some Growls doesn't mean it is considered death metal.
New Opeth is for sure a great album.
@@Wildchild4ever Opeth is not selling you a prog death album, they never said something like that, was the fandom who started saying that death metal opeth was going to come back when in reality it was a mix of the two opeth, that's why people are crying about the record lmao I've seen people disappointed because of that.
Opeth has slowly become my favorite band, but the new album even after probably 10 good full listens just isn't growing on me. I like it ok, it's better than In Cauda Venenum, Sorceress, and Heritage (Not Pale Communion though, I actually love that album). The Last Will and Testament.. I don't know there just aren't many points that grab me, it lacks dynamics, I don't like the production of the last couple albums either
@@Terminxman Is okay if is not your thing, you gave it a try, many tries and that says a lot about the kind of listener you are. For me is one of the best albums I listened this year, and yeah maybe pale communion is better but I personally like more TLW&T.
Satanic Warmaster’s Exultation of Cruelty
Ulcerate take is WIIILD, but to be fair it took me several listens until it clicked but when i eventually "got it" i absolutely fell in love. Give it a few more listens in the right mood!
MY TOP 10 2024
1.Opeth - The Last Will And Testament (Progressive Rock/Progressive Death Metal)
2.Ulcerate - Cutting the Throat of God (Avant-garde/Technical Death Metal)
3.Blazing Eternity - A Certain End Of Everything (Melodic Doom/Death Metal)
4.Gatecreeper - Dark Superstition (Melodic Death Metal/Swedish Death Metal)
5.Aara - Eiger (Atmospheric Black Metal)
6.Spectral Voice - Sparagmos (Funeral Doom/Death Metal)
7.Mesarthim - Anthropic Bias - Departure (Ambient/Trance Black Metal)
8.Spectral Wound - Songs of Blood and Mire (Black Metal)
9.Iotunn - Kinship (Progressive Melodic Death Metal)
10.Hamferð - Men Guðs Hond Er Sterk (Melodic Doom/Death Metal)
I bought so many albums of 2024.
Here is a top 8
01: Neon Nightmare - Faded Dream
02 Iotunn - Kinship
03: Cistvaen - At lights demise
04: Blazing Eternity - A certain end of everything
05: Blaze of Perdition - Upharsin
06: Hountologist: Hollow
07: In Vain - Solemn
08: Austere - Beneth the Threshold.
And so many others. I havent even heard Opeths latest yet😮
That Cistvaen album is so underrated or just underexposed, it was my favourite of the year.
Damn. Never heard of Borknagar until your review. They're really solid.
Looks like I have a new band to do a deep dive into.
Thanks for bringing them to my attention. :)
That Fulci album continues to grow on me. Genuinely awesome album.
I figured Deceased was going to be your number 1. I have to listen to it a lot more cuz it was awesome.
Top 10 for me:
1. Kanonenfieber - Die Urkatastrophe
2. Aara - Eiger
3. Winterfylleth - The Imperious Horizon
4. Seth -La France des maudits
5. Officuim Triste - Hortus venenum
6. Blood Incantation - Absolute Elsewhere
7. Iotunn - Kinship
8. Gaerea - Coma
9. Selbst - Despondency Chord Progressions
10. Necrohobic - In the Twilight Grey
Wow you're the first one saying the new Dark Tranquillity album is not so good... I agree with this point of view. I was so "disappointed" I didn't buy the record when it was released which never happens for me with Dark Tranquillity since their album Character...
However I was more disapointed by Severe Torture. Again the album is not bad but I feel they go more into black/death Metal (sometimes it reminds me Behemoth) than death Metal the way they did on their last EP. Plus, I did a video on my channel about their second album Misanthropic Carnage and I really REALLY prefer the death Metal they played back in the ages.
Anyway ! Great list here ! Lot of nice albums to catch up !
My number one is Sig:Ar:Tyr - citadel of stars
2- Critical Defiance- the search won’t fail
3- Deep Purple- =1
4- high on fire - cometh the storm
5- Magnum- here comes the rain
Also enjoying the new Winterfylleth, Sentry, Morta Skuld, Deceased, Blue oyster cult, Cavalera, Himinbjorg.
Still giving new Blood Incantation a listen. And Nile.
1. Nile-The Underworld Awaits Us All
2. Blood Incantation-Absolute Elsewhere
3. Ulcerate-Cutting the Throat of God
4. Deicide-Banished by Sin
5. Opeth-The Last Will and Testament
Also liked the Judas Priest album and that Spectral Wound album is filthy!
*Really* appreciate the bold hot takes on this list!
I’m glad you enjoyed it! Lol 🤣
Deicide new record is fantastic 👌
My Top 12 2024:
1.Wormwood: The star
2.Judas Priest: Invincible shield
3.Ungfell: De Ghörnt
4.The Servant: Death Devil Magick
5.Arkona (PL): Stella Pandora
6.Iotuun: Kinship
7.Naxen: Descending into a deeper darkness
8.Coldcell: Age of unreason
9.Zorza: Hellven
10.Writhen hilt: Ancient sword cult
11.Blaze of Perdition: Upharsin
12.Tyran: Tyran´s oath.
Keep up the good work...greetings from south-germany🖤❤🤘🤘🤘
On “Invincible Shield,” I keep returning to “The Lodger.”
The Lodger is frigging amazing,The true closer of the album
1 Benighted - Ekbom
2 Aborted - Vault of Horrors
3 Exocrine - Legend
4 Job for a Cowboy - Moon Healer
5 Summoning The Lich - Under The Reviled Throne
great picks! Deceased at 1 was a nice surprise
Lashes on point Kaiya! ;) Agreed on the Maul, too much hardcore stomp in it for me to enjoy it. I'd give the Nile a 7.5 - especially that you gave SFU a 6 lol. Eternal are great! Fulci will rate higher for me... As for my top list, you'll have to wait for my video December 31st!
Can't believe there were only 31 Metal albums released this year.
of course not it missing alot
@attilaalghazanth7116 :|
I felt the same way about Endtime Signals the first few times I spun it, but I decided to keep at it. I don't know what happened but it grew on me. Definitely not DT's best work, but way better than I had initially thought.
My top 5 this year:
1. Ulcerate - Cutting the Throat of God
2. Opeth - The Last Will and Testament
3. Judas Priest - Invincible Shield
4. Necrot - Lifeless Birth
5. Vorga - Beyond the Palest Star
Very good video / list / discussion 👍🏻🙂
Thank you for highlighting Deceased, I never listened to them particularly before or was not in the mood when I tried possibly. But I have checked again 🙂 "My" streaming service does not have the latest album you are listing here but I have listened to another one and I liked it! 🙂 Death'n'roll to an extent I would say 🙂 So, I will dig up more and try to check the new album of course.
Not much to add really as I have not heard many Metal albums this year due to different reasons as usual. I have had several attempts at the new Opeth but yet have not been able to listen to it in full. But Opeth is Opeth and I will probably do and if there is a physical copy, rather CD, available and not extremely expensive and I am still around 😐 I am going to buy it. "Collection"... 😀
Will certainly check BI and JP (not yet) when there is a chance and re-listen to Ulcerate and a few more titles from your list that I may like.
Anyway, I would also suggest new albums of B. Dickinson and Panzerfaust at least to try to if not yet.
And... what was that at 27:49? 😯😀 Sorry, just kidding 🙂 You know, Kaiya, we like you much (it is probably not exactly correct to say but I would like to phrase it this way now) 🙂❤🤝🏻
Sorry for rather a long message 🙂 Take care.
Personal favorites of the year all in random order.
Job For a Cowboy - Moonhealer

Blood Incantation - Absolute Elsewhere
Hell is Other People - Moirae
Thank you for the recommendations
Have you ever listened to Hippotraktor? I discovered them this year with their new album Stasis.
SFU on the same level of Opeth is criminal, Because even the worst of Opeth is better than the best of SFU. Dont get me wrong, everyone has the right to criticize as they please, I just find it wild. Chris's Vocals are absolutely abhorrent. Sure, Mikael's arent in their peak like they were 15 years ago, but they still sound good. Sure, the vocals arent the only thing to criticize, but considering it plays a part, still gonna throw it out there.
With the way you talked about BI in your review, I figured there was no way you’d put them so high.. Did their fanbase pressure you or something? lol.. I’ll stick to my guns with my thinking that it’s a highly overrated release, with very little memorability.. Otherwise, your list is quite refreshing to hear.. Everyone else is basically repeating the same list
Good evaluation and a lot of cool bands! Here is my list of 10 from 2024. Ok, with 'Chelsea Wolfe' a non-metal album has crept in, which I personally really like! From 10 to 1.
10. ALTAR OF OBLIVION - In The Cesspit Of Divine Decay (Epic Doom Metal)
09. ANCIIENTS - Beyond the Reach of the Sun (Progressive Sludge Metal)
08. BAT - Under The Crooked Claw (Speed Metal, Punk, a bit Proto Black) (with Ryan Waste from Municipal Waste)
07. BLACK TOTEM - III: Sacrifice Tonite (Very influenced by the early 'Danzig')
06. CAPILLA ARDIENTE - Where Gods Live and Men Die (Epic Doom Metal)
05. CHALLENGER - Force of Nature (Heavy Metal)
04. CHELSEA WOLFE - She Reaches Out To She Reaches Out To She (Experimental, Song Writer, Goth, Dark)
03. CRYPT SERMON - The Stygian Rose (Epic Doom Metal)
02. FLOTSAM AND JETSAM - I Am The Weapon (US Power-Thrash Metal)
01. NASTY SAVAGE - Jeopardy Room (My fave US Thraher with a comeback album after 20 years that was anything but disappointing for me!)
I would have put Defeated Sanity and Malignancy above Deicide and Deceased if we are just comparing the album released in 2024 but there is a lot of subsubsubgenre bias in that pick. Great content ImaCanoe, now when's is the next Kayak on the Mountain banger coming out. I always wondered how you got on the Mountain, then I saw one of your music videos and I see that you have wings and clearly can fly like some sort of black swan ....
Niles latest album is not a beginner's death metal album. Opeths latest album is not an Opeth beginners album.
My top 10 2024 albums are the new Aquilus, Blood Incantation, Piah Mater, Caligula's Horse, Frost*, Iotunn, Wintersun, In Vain, Inter Arma, and Tenue albums; Opeth and Alcest narrowly missed my top 10.
I've listened to 45 new albums this year, and this was the most exciting year in music in recent years for me, I haven't listened to one that was lower than a 7/10. Most years had one or two albums that were a 9 or 10, with 2021 having seven, but 2024 had at least twelve, which is a lot of album of the year contenders.
Top 5
1. Blood Incantation (Absolute Elsewhere) absolutely mind blowing perfect blend of every thing I love about this band. It’s a masterful journey unlike anything ive ever heard.
2. Necrot (Lifeless Birth) Damn good old school death metal with catchy hooks yet still brutal. Also my favorite album cover possibly ever. As a three piece these dude destroy the live show
3. Tzompantali (Beating the Drum of Ancestral Force) Heavy as hell, bringing something fresh to the doom table with the tribal instruments. Total sacrifice music.
4. Deicide (Banished by Sin) Absolute ripper of an album. GB still got it. Thrashy and unrelenting as Deicide should be. These songs went hard live.
5. Hyperdontia (Harvest of Malevolence) They moved out of the caverns production wise which I’m not too found of, but the song writing and riffs are just damn good. The bass work especially makes this a repeat listen for me many times this year.
😳The new Nile album is fucking brutal and technical than ever 💯🤘💀🤘
Duck Face Killings is one of the best metal albums of the year to me, and Undeath's More Insane. There was a ton of good stuff this year

2-Rotting Christ-Pro Xristou
3-Marilyn Manson-One Assassination Under God - Chapter 1
4-Judas Priest-Invincible Shield
5-Darkthrone-It Beckons Us All
Check Schammash and Fleshgod Apocalypse. Also don't let her personal opinion keep you from Ulcerate ans Blood Incantation. Also Thy Catafalque
If you're interested in progressive black metal, I suggest checking out the latest album from Modern Rites.
Nice video

Ulcerate is a 10/10, Nile is a 9/10. Listen again.. 🤗
The Lurking Corpses was my number 1.
Ah, a fellow man of culture I see 😎
Moon healer and Allt's new album are the standouts for me.
Nile 9/10
Agree..
9.5/10
Six feet under same score as ulcerate.... clueless
If you do another "albums I missed in 2024" I would have loved to hear your views on the album "The Dry Land" by the band "Huntsmen". They're kind of a proggy, sludgy, doomy blackened band that plays around with gothic country. That one is a top 5 for me this year.
I definitely dig this album.
I think Vulvodynias new album Entabeni is a good one.. kinda surprised not to see it on the list..
I'm shocked you didn't have Knocked Loose atleast top 5.
Deceased…. \m/ knew them this yr too via their ‘blueprints of madness’ album…. cool ranking… although i’d rate Ulcerate higher… 😅
Opeth 10/10
I actually agree with your Opeth take. I just never liked the power metal-ish vocals from mike. I agree I like that more dark and dreary death metal/prog rock style they had all those years ago. No hate to anyone that likes it! It's just too much cheesiness for me.
Ulcerate however are amazing and Cutting the Throat of God is A+++++
SFU higher than Opeth is a crazy take
It’s not, they’re both 6/10
@@LinkTech5 I don't think you're right, sir
They’re not in any particular order. Both records are in the same 6/10 category though. So they’re both rated the same to me thanks for watching!
Opeth peaked with the song Master's apprentice.
Not to do what I’m 100% positive will be beating a dead horse, but Ulcerate 6/10 is NASTY work…
The Warning is not “metal” but the sisters are 💥💥💥
Keep Me Fed has no fillers songs…
Borknagar deep dive when? Killer band 🤘🏼
Now this is an idea… 👀
Blood Incantation, Lust Hag, Necrot, Spectral Voice, Lifeless Dark
wormwood, wormwitch, or worm shepherd. All great worms.
Love the shirt 🔥🤘🔥🤘🔥
You need to listen to Aara they had hands down one of the best albums in 2024
Boundaries had a amazing album
DEICIDE !!!
Gatecreeper, best AI band ever. The machine takeover continues!
Blood Incantation is my number. I agree that you thought Starspawn was weak. I think it sounds messy and unfocused. But Hidden History is a chefs kiss. Almost a masterpiece, but somehow they topped it. One of my favorite death metal albums ever and my favorite album of the decade
Ulcerate and Opeth were great. Nile was pretty decent. I would say 7/10
I stopped watching the video when I saw you gave a 5 to Dark Tranquillity's album. What the hell
Im a DT fan but it's pretty mid. Cemetery Skylines Nordic Gothic was Mikaels highlight of the year.
@@Hellenicheavymetal Perfect, but Cemetery Skyline is not metal. Endtime Signals y a lot better than the previous two albums, it is darker, heavier and, sometimes, a lot faster. It is not perfect, but it is not a 5 XD
I could get into that blood incantation if he didnt sound like he was lost in a cave. All of that reverb is not epic, its awful at least to me.
Check out Cryptic Hatred….
For me Nonagon from Blood Red Throne was the best record of the year!
Nothing groundbreaking, but I really dug this album too. Quality DM
The only Falling In Reverse cd that I liked was their first one
Melissa is amazing
You're consistently out of breath for most of this video. You should look into that :>
Quite an interesting list, very different from other ones, here it is my list of top metal albums of 2024:
th-cam.com/users/shortsRuMjMVF330Q?si=hLUWF1KllsDa4gKY
I just don't agree with you. I appreciate the takes, but hot damn this was rough.
Greetings!! 👍🎄😊❤
shoutout Eternal AZ faithful!
Wow a new metal channel to check out!
43 seconds into the video, mentions Jelly Roll.
Keep the gate!
Dang girl that’s all you got from the video?! 🤣 at least make it to the end of the video before you judge to hard
Old stuff is good enough forever! ))
Borknagar is criminally overlooked. Vortex and Lars are two of the best and most unique vocalists out there
Hell yeah. The archaic course and quintessence are masterpieces that I still listen to very often. I even got a borknagar tattoo, gotta love ICS
@nagelswe11 i hung out with him for a couple hours in Oslo 16 years ago when I was on vacation. He's super chill and friendly
@@Rose-From-the-Dead i heard that about him! Did you get any news about a new solo album, or a resurrection of that more doomy stuff that's kinda old, can't remember the name now, but it's good stuff. Something with an H, I think. And souls.
Attic 9/10
These takes are so incredibly bad they should be serving time in San Quentin.
Hi, princess!
Brodequim…a lot of very bad recording music. What a mess, bad production.
Molder is much more decent…😊
A lot of simps in here. Tell me you know nothing about Ulcerate without telling me
Ulcerate simp calling other people simps 😂
...tell me you're a casual without telling me you're a casual
@ You can go listen to that trash Morbific ep, I’ll stick with, ya know…much better tunes
No symohonic metal?
Ad Infinitum (who is symphonic) is literally in my top 5 lol.
@imaKaiya sorry. . I am a Nightwish and Epica fan. Do you like them?
🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡
Stopped watching after you trashed Maul
Brodequim…a lot of very bad recording music. What a mess, bad production.
Molder is much more decent…😊
