Santhana Krishan (Madhavan), also known as Sakhi works in an automobile company and lives in a joint family. He comes across a model named Priya and the two fall in love with each other. Eventually they get married. Here begins the story. Unlike that of Sakhi's family, Priya's family is 'cosmopolitan' and too outgoing. Her mother(Aishwarya), is a party going socialite, while her father(Pratap K. Pothen) restricts himself to his house and doesn't bother to have a social life of his own. Priya always goes out partying and doesn't spend much time with her family. Brought up in such a situation, Priya finds it hard to adjust to the family of Sakhi because his family doesn't like all this going out and partying stuff. They prefer to stay home and mix with family. Sakhi tries to make his wife understand the realities of life and the importance of family but is unsuccessful. After their honeymoon Priya gets pregnant. Sakhi is on top of the world but Priya has doubts as she feels shes too young to be a mother. She tells her mother, who insists shes too young and under a guise that one of her relatives is ill, takes Priya to the hospital for an abortion. Sakhi finds out in time and rushes to the hospital where a reluctant Priya is being pulled towards the abortion room by her mother. When he calls to her she turns but is hit by a stretcher in her abdomen. The story moves ahead with Priya finding her diary in Sakhis suitcase (he had stolen it at the beginning of the movie in order to woo her) accusing him of tricking her she leaves to her parents house. At the same time she wants a divorce but Sakhi wants the child. The judge presiding rules that Priya will have to have the baby. Sakhi moves into Priya's parents house with her in order to take care of his unborn child, claiming he doesn't trust them, they might try to abort his baby. Months pass and Priya has the baby. As it needs to be fed mothers' milk, Priya moves back in with Sakhis family for a period of two months. These two months find Priya getting closer to her baby then the day before the last, regretting her decision of leaving the house but convinced that Sakhi hates her, decides to go through with it. The next day her parents come to get her, her mother has already selected another husband for her.Sakhi acts unbothered and taking the baby tells her to leave. Halfway home Priya gets out of the car; her dad and herself finally stand up to her mother. She stands lost on the island in the middle of the road when Sakhi drives by, then returns with a smile to pick her up.

In this film the director wants to show how joint families will be..and it is nicely projected but he missed a point that the hero loved the heroine he liked first, impressed her,proposed to her after marriage it is a joint family ok but at least some times he must have tried to understand atleast from her side in few things... instead he always wants her to adjust which is not correct...

Nice film..after watching this movie what I got to know that, wife is the person who has lot of trust on u to give her importance and value to her words.When a couple are just married first they have to be in privacy, so that is the right time wher they both can understand their opinions. You cannot expect all the time that she should adjust.At some point of time u have to understand her feelings and opinion also.👍

There’s that undertone of patriarchy in the entire script. My favorite of the non favorite part of the movie is when the protagonist actually says that because she’s a woman it is expected of her to move in with his family. And not the other way round. Which world are we living in? smh

Madhavan‘s character is grating on the nerves, more so after they go to court. The way they just take the child away soon after delivery is atrocious.
Movie with a nice concept is rare....Maddy this is the best movie of yours.... everyone must watch the film...
Madhavan used psychological tricks & lies to make Sada fall in love with him. When confronted later, he says, "it was just a 'joke', don't take it seriously". He hid her diary like a thief & made sure she never got to know the truth. He shamelessly lied to her, this can't be called a joke. Though Sada came from a rich family & her arrogant mother tried to poison her mind against her husband's family, she still did her best to adjust with her husband's family & when she couldn't take the lack of privacy anymore (kids watching Pogo in her room till late night & no personal time with her husband), she requested her husband to live separately with her & Madhavan reacted as if she was trying to cut his ties with his family. Sada should leave her parents & is expected to be happy, but Madhavan can't live away from his family even for a day. And whenever Sada shares her problems, instead of listening to his wife & understanding her point of view, he starts touching her everywhere like a pervert to distract her attention. And why is it wrong if she doesn't want a baby right away? A lady needs to be mentally prepared & strong to carry a baby & give birth. It's easy for men to say, "Give me a baby", but it's the woman who has to carry the baby in the womb for 9 months & take utmost care. And Madhavan is 30 in the movie while Sada is much younger.
This movie glorifies the selfish behaviour & desires of the hero while ignoring the heroine's feelings & not acknowledging the efforts she puts in to keep her marriage going strong. The only thing worth appreciating in this movie is the hero's family. Their bond, kindness, forgiving nature, & love has been beautifully portrayed.
Agree with other things but for baby you women have so many years to prepare? I'm sure when you were 10-12 years old you must have figured out that only women can give birth so why you women need time to be ready after marriage? If a woman gets married at the age of 20 or 22 then she had 10-12 years to prepare for her pregnancy.

It's not about getting prepared for sex, it's knowing that you'll have a baby after marriage. How much time do you need? More than 2 years is a stretch.

That family life is a very crowded one. The whole family participates even in matters that the two of them have to deal with very privately. Since it is in the male house, the male has more power. It is very inappropriate for children to be around adults discussing personal matters. Children don't have those serious problems and it's a shame that the children in the home are the first to go where there are family problems in the hospital and at home. And the fact of having children or not should be decided by the will of both the husband and the wife. Finally, it's important for married couples to live independently.
In 2019 also I was watching this movie... Nice direction... Nice acting by Maddy and Sada... I don't know why I addicted to this movie.. Quite clean and nice

*Plot of this movie:* Boy sees a girl and does everything to manipulate her to fall in love with him. He doesn't try to understand the girl. To him, her character and upbringing are not important cuz she anyway has to change herself completely after marriage. He wants her to change, for that, he manipulates, guilt-trips, corners, reject her feelings and let her down completely. He wants to teach her a lesson which is "girls should give up everything and learn to adjust". He would go to any length to teach this lesson. To what extent? This movie will show you.
You summed it up really well. Most women in India (some parts of west too) are taught to take shit and are expected to adjust. It is a world built for men by men. These subjugating rules were framed by a council of men in the name of protecting women. Men were too scared to imagine a world led by women. If women can conceive, feed, nurture, and work along-side men, men were too scared that they were losing the position of power. But they forgot that women can also be very nurturing and empathetic no matter the power. Thankfully society is changing towards accepting more women in positions of authority. And I hope more will join us.

@@krishnakoushik7920 There is a huge difference between how you word things. Sharing responsibility is a very good way of putting it. But the moment you start talking about - just because someone is born as a female she has to adhere to certain rules and expectations of the society, that is where things get murky. Also, free-will and feminism are all a spectrum. And I agree everything needs to be in moderation. But sadly, things are so skewed in our generally patriarchal culture, that women trying to bring moderation into discussion are termed western/progressive/whatnot and labeled. Just remember that most rules that we follow now were made by men. Maybe good hearted men but they certainly did not represent true interests of women. Couldn't think of it. Imagine if women were to make the rules eons ago and men were to move in with their in-laws after wedding. Men were to be bound to feel the same frustration that women now do.
