Wilson Philips is a great group with great songs and of course fabulous voices. For this song, their performance is cohesive, harmonic and strong. They were a fresh and an up and coming group back then with full of potential. I love their clean, fresh and lively approach to music.
I think this is their best performance ever of Hold On. You could tell from Chynna's expressions they were ON, getting their peers to clap along as they were celebrating their #1 award. She really felt her lyrics that night.

If you want to see how real fashionable people dressed in the mid to late 80’s….look at Chynna, Belinda Carlisle, and Martika. The 80’s were much more chic than people give credit.

They did a fully live great performance, because the Milli Vanilli rumors about lip syncing were going strong back then. They even changed it a bit from the album version.

Also songs had more substance back then. Music has lost its way. When need to go back to its fundamentals. The women groups of my time definitely rocked it out back then. The Wilson Philips, Expose, The Gogos of the world. These groups were on point and you never heard any negative press about these groups as well back then due to no social media. Which is a plus. Social media has put a black eye on the music industry.
I had tickets to see them in 1990 open for Richard Marx at SPAC, Saratoga, NY, but they cancelled. I never did get to see them. Sad. I never heard why they cancelled.

The sound is live and raw. If this was today, they would be utilizing additional tracks and the sound would be much more polished. I like the way they did it then.

But the fact that their first few biggest billboard hits hold on, release me and you’re in love were entirely written by them should definitely give them songwriting cred.

I think consistency is what you're probably looking fore, because that was definitely lacking. I wish the audience was just as ape shit as I was throughout the entire show, because that was the shit! I miss these gals! I wish Wilson Phillips blew-up like the Spice Girls.
