I disagree with Jayant. I have been following Carnatic music for the past 60 years. When ever there was a concert in Temple in a semi urban station like Srieangam, Mannargudi, Kumbakonam and such places ( in those days) the audience always outnumbered brahmins. That too especially concerts by Nadaswara vidwans.
The bias or hatred towards Brahmin is unfounded. Importantly, carnatic music requires knowledge of several languages like Tamil, Sanskrit, Telugu, kannada, Hindi ( basic skills) if one wants to make a mark in the field. It is only survival of the fittest in any field. There are many Government music colleges, but it has no produced a champion musician so far.
Why ? One must analyse this.
Hatred towards other languages will lead no where .
Music should satisfy the soul of the listners.

Carnatic music is by God's grace both for artists and audience. Like drawing, like painting fine arts are due to divine blessings. When such blessings strike one, he gets into. That's all.
No brahminism. No casteism. Sabas prefer the audience's choice and they are commercial. Nothing wrong in them. Carnatic music in janaranchakam is not ideal. Why? If so, lots of cine songs are there for janaranchaka freaks.

I think this is nonsense...even in early days, many Bhagavathars have been from other castes..Chandru wants to blame Brahmins for anything and everything...so Jayanth ahoukd not agree with this.
