I really didn’t have the time or patience to play the rest of the franchise before DI2 came out. Thank you so much for this. After seeing the whole story, I feel like dead island would make a really sick TV show. The plot of all the games put together is so intriguing
It could make an awesome TV if done right. There was nearly a movie a few years ago, though apparently it didn't follow the game plot and was about a different group of survivors.

"All the colour has drained out of him" is a polite way of saying "they beat the black off him" I love the definitive edition, so many glitches that weren't there in the original like characters changing races, areas being locked away that have collectibles in. All fun things like that
@EvenBadWolves Gaming my best friend and i have played dead island for years and we think that in some aspects, the original version of dead island 1 was better. We got really annoyed when we were collecting all of the collectibles and there's one on the laboratory map that is inaccessible even though it was accessible in the original. What's really irritating is they didn't go back to fix it. Great video by the way. I haven't played the spin offs so it was cool to hear how they fit into the larger narrative
I was a big fan of the first couple seasons of LOST and Escape from Dead Island gave me those vibes, hard. It is only one of two games (the other being Dead Space) that I immediately continued playing a second time after the credits rolled. Most "linear" games I've replayed I've had to let breathe for a while, but I just couldn't get enough of the atmosphere and storytelling in Escape.
I love how polarising Escape is - people either seem to really love it or hate it. The story telling and atmosphere were something special, though I really wish there was an explanation for the trains.
Also to really understand the "insanity" episodes Cliff experienced through the game. Because honestly, they were scary and for a moment, it left me thinking that he got infected somehow in the beginning. I hope that in Dead island 2 covers his story and also the fate of the immune survivors in the end of Riptide.

It would be cool that in the future the game launches a DLC continuing the ending of the original story and MAYBE, finding some clues about Cliff or even better, rescue him and his friends. ALso, it might be difficult but also to show other old inmune survivors and get an understanding of the boat "incident".

Man, I loved Dead Island when I first played through it. Never made it too far into Riptide. Was utterly blown away by the quality of the gameplay and storytelling in Escape. Thanks for this nice, neat wrap up of everything so far. Can't wait to get my buddy that I beat most of DI with in a discord call when DI2 drops! Gonna be just like old times 😁🤙
I love how in Dead Island the virus dies in the Immuned bodies, but in Riptide the virus is actually suppressed. Sucks because I really did like John Morgan's character and hand-to-hand combat playstyle. Would've been cool to play as him again in the sequel!
Is just a personal opinion, but I think the behaviour of the virus in the inmume changed from being destroyed to suppresed is because in Banoi they weren't any mutagent agents (at least as far as I can recall). In Palanai however they were and, as mentioned by Dr Kesler, an exposure to it will weakend the inmunity to the virus. Again, is hust an opinion because I only played DI1 and not DIR.
Ope honestly got done dirty. He actually allows outsiders into his village, trusts them and leads them to their holy tombs and then gets straight up shot by them because he raises his stick at a random girl that for all the survivors know may just as well be infected. The strangest thing about Dead Island are honestly the cutscenes, where your character will all of a sudden be surrounded by people you haven't seen since the intro cutscene (the other survivors) and act completely differently. I played as Purna so I guess I just straight up shot Ope dead lol
I love the Dead Island series as it is one of my favorite zombie games next to Left 4 Dead, Dying Light and Killing Floor. Replayed a bunch of times the DI1 and DI Riptide campaigns and still can't get enough of them. Great games for sure.
Like a number of people, I’ve only played the first entry in the series. Dead Island had a fair amount of anticipation hyping its release during that era thanks to media outlets, i.e. Game Informer/G4. Great Job and Thanks for carrying the torch in anticipation of DI2

@@557deadpool RE games and animation movies both intersect and set the stage for games so if u play the games alone , u won't get the whole story that is why it's confusing in term of timelines if u don't watch it in order or play em in that order.
@@ak-ub1ym literally the only one with any plot relevance to the games was Degeneration which set up TriCell in RE5 and even then in RE5 they do explain what TriCell is. Damnation and Vendetta can be completely ignored. Vendetta moreso because it has fuck all to do with 7 and 8. Otherwise everything is completely understandable and explained in the games and documents you find in said games. Hell most of the GAMES aren't necessary to understand the plot. Between RE3 and 4 you don't need to play Dead Aim, CV, Outbreak, and Umbrella Chronicles to understand that Umbrella is dead because RE4 literally tells you. Yes they help explain how EXACTLY that happened, especially Umbrella Chronicles, but none are necessary if you're going by the numbered games. And the games are generally self-contained anyway. You can play RE6 and still not be lost because all relevant info is explained to you.

Sam B is in DI2 so I’m sure we’ll they’ll tell us something and what happened after Riptide and if Escape is canon (which I believe it is) then Xian at least survived as well.
I recently went through the whole series, minus the mobile games for obvious reasons for a lore refresher. Thanks for a great video. Escape from dead island's questionable canonicity feels like they intended for a lot of story elements to be canon, my main reason is say it is a coma from the boat presumably cliff would have no way to know Xian. That's just one example. I definitely feel like Dead island 2 should just come out already, cliff hangers kill me Great Video, nice seeing smaller creators with some quality content
watching this video made the realise dead island's plot had a suprising amount of depth, but it also made me realise all the missions in the first game and riptide were just fetch quests, lol.
I mean in a real life zombie apocalypse surviving is mostly a lot of fetch quest with some area clearing quest and base defense quest and hunt and kill quest on the side

I was so confused about the timeline back then when I played this frustrating combat game and still mad till now lol. Escape is a bit confusing - at one stage Deep Silver said it wasn’t going to be canon but then they describe it as explaining the origins of the outbreak and part of the DI universe. So I take it to mean that Xian at least did survive.

I got dead island 2 today . I did get dead island 1 for very cheap last week like 5 euros . But man the combat felt really bad . And yes i kinda expected it because its been more than 10 years . Im excited ! I do wanna play the first one tho but it just feels so bad .
I often listen to lore videos because trying to connect the story between reading notes/journals and listening to recordings and cutscenes just confuses me. I have beat the first game and Riptide between 6- and 8 times each. I had no idea there was this much story. I think DI 2 is now my favorite, with Riptide ranked second and DI 1 third.
I did not know you could do that, but it has given me a new headcanon of Sinamoi finding it, making it airtight, ramping it off the roof and driving it to Amaia - explaining how he escaped Banoi before the bombing.
Ah exactly what I was looking for, playing dead island 2 reignited my love for these but it's been so long since the first 2 games I had forgotten most of the details about them. I was hoping to find a video like this but finding it being narrated by a female was a nice surprise, its normally monotonous sounding men and I prefer some spirit to my narrators (idk if that makes sense I love your voice is what I mean)
I'll be planning to replay Dead Island.. I can beat it and make it to 100% but also I just hope in Dead Island 2 makes a reference or cameo Easter Egg towards the previous survivors back in Dead Island 1..
Honestly I just hope that Dead Island 2 has a good story and gameplay In my personal opinion, the story and gameplay started becoming crappier after Dead Island. I'll give the benefit of the doubt and presume it was due to funding issues But hopefully maybe they won't butcher it. Not to mention I hope they explain what happen to Charon/Kevin. Because I remember in Riptide he was captured but they never talked about him again. Despite him being written in the story as this "big villain" that influenced a lot of things. You'd think they would have him still be strongly involved in the story of Riptide, but they pretty much ignored him.
Yeah they just carted Charon off for debriefing - I was glad to see he got a backstory in Escape but I hope that they do bring him back for DI2. I would love it if he was behind the outbreak in California.
I think it was already said that it was not open world a while ago... Don't care enough too find proof but going back to streamlined linear games with thick content has been needed in the game world open world has it's place in games but getting away from it makes the game feel more personal to me
I'm hoping they find a way to transitions scenes without having characters "get knocked out" and waking up somewhere else later. I could buy all the DLC if I had a dollar for every time the games use this.
The knocking characters unconscious didn't bother me so much, it is the easiest way to skip time. I'm just hoping DI2 doesn't have such a high proportion of quests being fetch quests.
@@EvenBadWolvesGaming I mean if you break it down to it bear bones aside from clearing areas of zombies as the names slayers would suggest and defending places or hunting sorting zombies by request besides that there not many ways to make a quest with out it being a fetch quest since trying to get something will always be the mean driving force
@@kennyburkamp4054 I understand it feels that way given that fetch quests have been the main thing in DI and Riptide but I disagree that there aren't many ways to make a quest without it being a fetch quest. They could track down people associated with Geopharm and the outbreak get information and then have a choice of what to do with them. They could clear out and permanently restore areas of LA and take out a boss zombie/geopharm guy in each area ala Far Cry style. They could have more linear investigation/exploration sections like Underwater Labs. They could even do diplomacy style quests e.g. deciding whether the remnants of an military camp work with a group of prisoners or whether one wipes out the other. I'm sure if they wanted to they could think up a whole lot of different quests that aren't fetch quests.
I’m holding off on uploading it to see what’s happening with the expansion and when we can expect the last two game chapters. I’d hate to put the update up now and then the actual ending gets released in like a month.

The Deep Silver press release when it came out said that Escape was between Dead Island 1 and 2 and the player would delve into the Dead Island universe' and 'unravel the origin of the zombie outbreak' - press.deepsilver.com/en-US/ESCAPE-Dead-Island-Paradise-Meets-Insanity There was an article on Gaming Bolt that said it wasn't canon but I haven't come across anything from Deep Silver that would support that.

I think Escape should have been included in the definitive edition but it wasn’t well received when it first came out. It is very different from Dead Island and Riptide and a lot of people didn’t like the gameplay and the unclear story, while others just didn’t like the cartoony style. So people who liked Dead Island didn’t like it and people who didn’t like Dead Island had no reason to play it to see whether they would like it. It’s a shame because parts of Escape are really great.
This was actually really good when I played escape dead island I didn't hear the concussion part so I completely missed it so I thought I was in a drug trip playing it well It has changed my opinion on the story abit then but the gameplay for it is still awful but great summary for this underrated franchise
The note about the concussion is super easy to miss. I didn't quite hate Escape's gameplay, but it definitely got a lot better after picking up the assault rifle.

Thanks 😊 I kinda got the feeling that they just kept making up stuff as they went without paying to much attention to what was already in the games or the plot holes they were creating. I really hope DI2 clears things up but given it’s a new developer I’m worried we’ll just get conflicting information.

@@557deadpool RE games and animation movies both intersect and set the stage for games so if u play the games alone , u won't get the whole story that is why it's confusing in term of timelines if u don't watch it in order or play em in that order.
@@ak-ub1ym literally the only one with any plot relevance to the games was Degeneration which set up TriCell in RE5 and even then in RE5 they do explain what TriCell is. Damnation and Vendetta can be completely ignored. Vendetta moreso because it has fuck all to do with 7 and 8.
Otherwise everything is completely understandable and explained in the games and documents you find in said games. Hell most of the GAMES aren't necessary to understand the plot. Between RE3 and 4 you don't need to play Dead Aim, CV, Outbreak, and Umbrella Chronicles to understand that Umbrella is dead because RE4 literally tells you. Yes they help explain how EXACTLY that happened, especially Umbrella Chronicles, but none are necessary if you're going by the numbered games.
And the games are generally self-contained anyway. You can play RE6 and still not be lost because all relevant info is explained to you.

Sam B is in DI2 so I’m sure we’ll they’ll tell us something and what happened after Riptide and if Escape is canon (which I believe it is) then Xian at least survived as well.

I recently went through the whole series, minus the mobile games for obvious reasons for a lore refresher. Thanks for a great video. Escape from dead island's questionable canonicity feels like they intended for a lot of story elements to be canon, my main reason is say it is a coma from the boat presumably cliff would have no way to know Xian. That's just one example. I definitely feel like Dead island 2 should just come out already, cliff hangers kill me

watching this video made the realise dead island's plot had a suprising amount of depth, but it also made me realise all the missions in the first game and riptide were just fetch quests, lol.

I mean in a real life zombie apocalypse surviving is mostly a lot of fetch quest with some area clearing quest and base defense quest and hunt and kill quest on the side

Dead Island has always stuck with me, love this series. I hope the second one continues some story from 1 and Riptide connecting the virus, maybe the HK virus is also the one in Cali and because Sam B is returning. Great job with this video!

I was so confused about the timeline back then when I played this frustrating combat game and still mad till now lol. So it's kind of hard to keep engaged to the story when getting hard game progression.

Escape is a bit confusing - at one stage Deep Silver said it wasn’t going to be canon but then they describe it as explaining the origins of the outbreak and part of the DI universe. So I take it to mean that Xian at least did survive.

I got dead island 2 today . I did get dead island 1 for very cheap last week like 5 euros . But man the combat felt really bad . And yes i kinda expected it because its been more than 10 years . Im excited ! I do wanna play the first one tho but it just feels so bad .

I often listen to lore videos because trying to connect the story between reading notes/journals and listening to recordings and cutscenes just confuses me. I have beat the first game and Riptide between 6- and 8 times each. I had no idea there was this much story. I think DI 2 is now my favorite, with Riptide ranked second and DI 1 third.

I always wondered what happened to the truck I left on top of the hotel. You can glitch it up on the roof.
I did not know you could do that, but it has given me a new headcanon of Sinamoi finding it, making it airtight, ramping it off the roof and driving it to Amaia - explaining how he escaped Banoi before the bombing.
I only played dead island and riptide and really enjoyed this.
You should try playing Escape as well - it's not for everyone but I think it's a decent game.

Ah exactly what I was looking for, playing dead island 2 reignited my love for these but it's been so long since the first 2 games I had forgotten most of the details about them. I was hoping to find a video like this but finding it being narrated by a female was a nice surprise, its normally monotonous sounding men and I prefer some spirit to my narrators (idk if that makes sense I love your voice is what I mean)

In my personal opinion, the story and gameplay started becoming crappier after Dead Island. I'll give the benefit of the doubt and presume it was due to funding issues
But hopefully maybe they won't butcher it. Not to mention I hope they explain what happen to Charon/Kevin. Because I remember in Riptide he was captured but they never talked about him again. Despite him being written in the story as this "big villain" that influenced a lot of things. You'd think they would have him still be strongly involved in the story of Riptide, but they pretty much ignored him.
Yeah they just carted Charon off for debriefing - I was glad to see he got a backstory in Escape but I hope that they do bring him back for DI2. I would love it if he was behind the outbreak in California.

I think it was already said that it was not open world a while ago... Don't care enough too find proof but going back to streamlined linear games with thick content has been needed in the game world open world has it's place in games but getting away from it makes the game feel more personal to me
I'm hoping they find a way to transitions scenes without having characters "get knocked out" and waking up somewhere else later. I could buy all the DLC if I had a dollar for every time the games use this.
The knocking characters unconscious didn't bother me so much, it is the easiest way to skip time. I'm just hoping DI2 doesn't have such a high proportion of quests being fetch quests.
@@EvenBadWolvesGaming I mean if you break it down to it bear bones aside from clearing areas of zombies as the names slayers would suggest and defending places or hunting sorting zombies by request besides that there not many ways to make a quest with out it being a fetch quest since trying to get something will always be the mean driving force
@@kennyburkamp4054 I understand it feels that way given that fetch quests have been the main thing in DI and Riptide but I disagree that there aren't many ways to make a quest without it being a fetch quest.
They could track down people associated with Geopharm and the outbreak get information and then have a choice of what to do with them.
They could clear out and permanently restore areas of LA and take out a boss zombie/geopharm guy in each area ala Far Cry style.
They could have more linear investigation/exploration sections like Underwater Labs.
They could even do diplomacy style quests e.g. deciding whether the remnants of an military camp work with a group of prisoners or whether one wipes out the other.
I'm sure if they wanted to they could think up a whole lot of different quests that aren't fetch quests.

I played escape from Dead Island when I was a kid man after the ending I felt so confused was it a dream or was he hallucinating the whole thing now I'm older now and I'm safe to say that the game is okay but where does it fall in Into the Dead Island Story is a cannon or non-canon

There was an article on Gaming Bolt that said it wasn't canon but I haven't come across anything from Deep Silver that would support that.

Escape dead island seems like a decent game, why wasn't it ported to higher consoles
I think Escape should have been included in the definitive edition but it wasn’t well received when it first came out. It is very different from Dead Island and Riptide and a lot of people didn’t like the gameplay and the unclear story, while others just didn’t like the cartoony style.
So people who liked Dead Island didn’t like it and people who didn’t like Dead Island had no reason to play it to see whether they would like it.
It’s a shame because parts of Escape are really great.

This was actually really good when I played escape dead island I didn't hear the concussion part so I completely missed it so I thought I was in a drug trip playing it well It has changed my opinion on the story abit then but the gameplay for it is still awful but great summary for this underrated franchise
The note about the concussion is super easy to miss. I didn't quite hate Escape's gameplay, but it definitely got a lot better after picking up the assault rifle.

@@EvenBadWolvesGaming i know there is a theory that the original survivors from exposure to the chemicals in riptide might now be carriers for the virus still immune themselves but now beign the reason it's spreading (but considering their appearances in other locations i doubt it but maybe) i would love to see them taking up an active role in fighting the infections around the globe (cause like i said in the original comment the protags by the end of dead island 1 and riptide are basically the equivalent hydrogen bomb in human form i haven't forgotten going through all of riptide as john with only these hands the zombies never stood a chance)
