Also when Sanji initially kicked Luffy to stop him from making a dumb decision based off of emotions, Luffy then apologizes while Zoro stood there in silence almost as in agreement with Sanji. Usopp has been needed a great number of times in the series. What he meant by Usopp being that voice is that Usopp is the heart of the crew which I agree with. He also is pretty damn smart. Usopp sorry role doesn’t get put in the spotlight, but that is because he’s the kind of underdog character where things for him aren’t recognized.

Hell, Nami would still be essentially a non-combatant without Usopp. Everyone would have been turned into wax statues without him. Except no they wouldn't because they would have all died at reverse mountain as Luffy would have tried to get the crew to the grand line even if they didn't have the Going Merry and they would never have found another FREE ship in the east blue that was well built enough to survive that let alone the Knock-up stream and the trip back down. That whole God Usopp thing only happened because he liberated a bunch of people that were key in the arc. Everyone also would have died in Wano if Usopp wasn't there to reassure people that dying for honor doesn't help you win a battle. I've always felt like Sanji and Zoro's rivalry has been criminally underlooked as just a running gag but they're constantly fighting each other, not sparring, they are genuinely fighting, maybe they're not going for killing blows but they're also not pulling any punches, also their fights never end with either of them winning, they are always testing the other to be sure that he's not falling behind.
Also a observation that @Melonteee had on their dynamics that I find interesting: Zoros dream is to become the strongest Swordsman, which requires immense strength and will. Sanjis dream is to find the All Blue, meaning that Sanji has to believe in a Fantasy Luffys Dream needs both. The Fantasy that the One Piece exists and the strength to pursue the title of Pirate King

No that was about Kuina. His promise at Baratie was slightly altered to include Luffy’s ambitions into it and he was referencing that. But he does have a different sort of respect for Sanji that isn’t there for the rest of the crew. Vice versa too with how Sanji knew that the only one who could be entrusted with the duty of snuffing him out and actually following through on his wishes was Zoro. AND HE WAS RIGHT. It’s a weird sort of trust that exists only between them two. They KNOW that the other is indispensable to the Straw Hats and will come to protect each other to avoid the worst scenario possible.
It is "Wings" and it refers not only to Sanji but Zoro as well. The kanji 両 means "both" , so it implies something in plural. This kanji (両翼) is used in the japanese title of episode 1046 and uses that same kanji for "both" and it can be translated as "both wings", 両: both & 翼: wing(s). So we can assume that Robin referred to Sanji as one of the two wings of the Pirate King.
Sort of hot take: I hope characters like Sanji or Kuzan never get or are revealed to have conquerer's haki, because powerscalers are beginning to treat it like a super saiyan/requirement to be considered a top tier. For example, I'd prefer if Sanji got stronger through advanced armament and observation haki, along with mastering his genetic enhancements and Ifrit Jambe (thats an incredibly busted kit); I just feel like it would be a more interesting outcome rather than giving everyone conquerers lol

While Armament is for the surface, Conqueror is more directly to inside. Thats why Kaido's body can handle Armament at high degree, but Conqueror is striking directly inside. If you think about it, Conqueror would be useless as hell if Oda didnt give this kind of power. Imagine knocking out ppl far weaker than you, that would be useless as heck even several arcs before, and the hype of Conqueror haki would be so much waste for the story 😂

Everyone forms a certain link between the Captain and the crew. As you indicated. Sanji usually takes care of the rest of the crew and Zorro takes care of Luffy. Well, like Zorro covers Luffy's back. I started to watched One Piece with clear mind and no bias with who's famous whatsoever because I hate it when people kept downplayong certain characters like they own it. (The audacity of people who all talk, only watching to look cool but not understanding what's beneath of the stories abd characters. 😒) From what I see and my OWN understanding about the characters of Zoro and Sanji. Zoro is the PROTECTOR and Sanji is the NOURISHER which is in lined with their job on the crew as a swordman and a chef. Zoro is known for his strength and no nonsense way of life. He's also have the level headness that the crew needs in moments of critical moments, the person who can challenged their Captain to think and the person he can rely on in battles like a General to a King. His dream is to become the Strongest Swordman which rely on strength and obtainable title like The King of the Pirates. While Sanji is known to Provide for their Nourishment, which is not only from the food but also from his kindness and encouragement for his crew. A person who thinks first before acting, often look for something that are simple but impactful. His dream is to find the All Blue which is a myth like One Piece is also considered as but both of them believe on it. Both Sanji and Zoro are opposites to each other hence why they fought a lot. Sanji having elegance and his chilvary while Zoro with his rustic and manliness. But with all of that, if you see them talk normally with each other without the fights and insult, they both have the same thinking, often agreed with each other's thoughts and even give each others insights (which most OP fans often discards). Both Loyal to a fault and both self sacrificing idiots. One for battle prowness and, the other for tactics and stealth. I read many comments about how Zoro is much more important than Sanji or Sanji is replaceable yada yada which is stupid because even Luffy and Oda deflects those. Hell, even Ussop who is the weakest of the strawhats are important and irreplaceable, that's why he's one of the main characters.
In order to fly, you need two wings. One being stronger than the other doesn't matter. As long as they're in sync (bickering doesn't count) and can work together to get somewhere safely (protect the crew), it's all that matters.
It is obviously portrayed by Oda that Zoro and Sanji are not like ordinary commanders. That's why I'm pretty sure they can beat other captains (Kidd Law) since Oda also never put a captain from the worst generation on the same level as Luffy to make it clear to us that Luffy has no rivals in terms of strength in the worst genaration. And even if we take portrayal away, both also showed feats on their own that would smoke Kidd and Law.

I prefer them both being wings of luffy but I did hear a good theory a while back saying that sanji was the wings, partially because of the first translation, but also because he is the one who can fly as well as his moms name being sora meaning sky. Zoro would then be the legs of the crew due to him bearing so much weight for the crew as well as his mother being named terra meaning earth. This also pulls from the idea that the titles of luffy's commanders being themed off of the sky (sanji), earth (zoro) and sea (jimbie).

Genuinely sanji is just a placeholder for the other wing of the pirate king even if that’s true or just something more or less nebulous… When Yamato comes back and she joins her and zoro will be the true wings of luffy. It's Zoro. The anime at least makes it very obvious that it's Zoro's job to keep the rest of the crew/ship safe while Luffy is occupied and he's the vice captain. In OP every single crew is defined as much by their VC as they are their captain. He always ends up fighting the strongest enemy that Luffy isn't already fighting. I'm not sure how this is a debate. Without Luffy there is no hero, but without Zoro there is no crew. I've counted dozens of times already where either Luffy, Usopp, or Robin are about to be attacked/flanked and Zoro parries it.

I agree that Zoro and Sanji are the wings of the Pirate King but, Luffy, Nami, and Zoro are the most important members in my opinion because they are the ones who are catalyst when a major decision is about to be made like, The East Blue saga started with those 3 taking down Buggy, Boroque Works starts with those 3 saving Vivi, Skypia saga starts with those 3 going to the bar and hearing the 'Dreams never end' speech from Blackbeard, Zoro and Nami are opposites (Constantly Lost vs Navigator) viewpoints who inform Luffy to take a decision, Water 7 these 3 discuss if Robin is an Enemy, in Post Enis Lobby Zoro and Nami argue about what to do about Usopp rejoining and Luffy agrees with Zoro, and in Zou Nami and Zoro argue about what to do about Sanji leaving and Luffy agrees with Nami.
Nami is the on board captain thats why, and She met Luffy and Zoro first, but in terms of how the story progressed, Zoro and Sanji became more vital for Luffy. Yes it was said somewhere that Nami is basically the on board captain.

Usopp has been needed a great number of times in the series. What he meant by Usopp being that voice is that Usopp is the heart of the crew which I agree with. He also is pretty damn smart. I've always felt like Sanji and Zoro's rivalry has been criminally underlooked as just a running gag but they're constantly fighting each other, not sparring, they are genuinely fighting, maybe they're not going for killing blows but they're also not pulling any punches, also their fights never end with either of them winning, they are always testing the other to be sure that he's not falling behind.

This kanji (両翼) is used in the japanese title of episode 1046 and uses that same kanji for "both" and it can be translated as "both wings", 両: both & 翼: wing(s). Sort of hot take: I hope characters like Sanji or Kuzan never get or are revealed to have conquerer's haki, because powerscalers are beginning to treat it like a super saiyan/requirement to be considered a top tier. For example, I'd prefer if Sanji got stronger through advanced armament and observation haki, along with mastering his genetic enhancements and Ifrit Jambe (thats an incredibly busted kit); I just feel like it would be a more interesting outcome rather than giving everyone conquerers lol

From what I see and my OWN understanding about the characters of Zoro and Sanji.
Zoro is the PROTECTOR and Sanji is the NOURISHER which is in lined with their job on the crew as a swordman and a chef.
Zoro is known for his strength and no nonsense way of life. He's also have the level headness that the crew needs in moments of critical moments, the person who can challenged their Captain to think and the person he can rely on in battles like a General to a King. His dream is to become the Strongest Swordman which rely on strength and obtainable title like The King of the Pirates.
While Sanji is known to Provide for their Nourishment, which is not only from the food but also from his kindness and encouragement for his crew. A person who thinks first before acting, often look for something that are simple but impactful. His dream is to find the All Blue which is a myth like One Piece is also considered as but both of them believe on it.
Both Sanji and Zoro are opposites to each other hence why they fought a lot. Sanji having elegance and his chilvary while Zoro with his rustic and manliness. But with all of that, if you see them talk normally with each other without the fights and insult, they both have the same thinking, often agreed with each other's thoughts and even give each others insights (which most OP fans often discards). Both Loyal to a fault and both self sacrificing idiots. One for battle prowness and, the other for tactics and stealth.
I read many comments about how Zoro is much more important than Sanji or Sanji is replaceable yada yada which is stupid because even Luffy and Oda deflects those. Hell, even Ussop who is the weakest of the strawhats are important and irreplaceable, that's why he's one of the main characters.

I prefer them both being wings of luffy but I did hear a good theory a while back saying that sanji was the wings, partially because of the first translation, but also because he is the one who can fly as well as his moms name being sora meaning sky. Zoro would then be the legs of the crew due to him bearing so much weight for the crew as well as his mother being named terra meaning earth. This also pulls from the idea that the titles of luffy's commanders being themed off of the sky (sanji), earth (zoro) and sea (jimbie).

To make luffy pirate king it’s probably robin, I’m sorry but this is one piece a world where nothing makes sense without road poneglyph’s there is a 0% (fricken 0) chance you will find the one piece and be pirate king
But as a crewmate to luffy I don’t see Robin as important since luffy’s most important goal is to achieve his dream (which isn’t pirate king) so whatever that dream is from one piece theories the most important could sanji or brook or franky
It's Zoro. The anime at least makes it very obvious that it's Zoro's job to keep the rest of the crew/ship safe while Luffy is occupied and he's the vice captain. In OP every single crew is defined as much by their VC as they are their captain. He always ends up fighting the strongest enemy that Luffy isn't already fighting. I'm not sure how this is a debate. Without Luffy there is no hero, but without Zoro there is no crew. I've counted dozens of times already where either Luffy, Usopp, or Robin are about to be attacked/flanked and Zoro parries it.
I just hate people who always downplay Sanji. Zoro and Sanji are equally Stronger. They have to be equally Stronger if they are wings of pirate King.

Zoro is a Chad while Sanji is the Kindest Person in the crew.
