Hi Justin, thank you for the step-by-step video! My handyman told me the cost for installation would be $100.00!!! So, I decided to do it myself! I feel pretty confident after watching your video a few times. Thanks again!
Wow, I’m in the wrong line of business! The range hood was installed by my son. Not bad, but there’s nothing like a professional. Saving a few dollars isn’t always the best way to go. Lesson learned. Lol
Thank you so much for this video! Currently looking for a new range hood that I need replaced, with a handyman quoting me $200 to install! I looked at video after video, nothing as detailed like this one! Great video, step by step guide that makes you feel confident about doing the work.
This is a very very very well detailed video. By far the best I’ve ever seen. I am currently doing the same thing but with a 30 inch. Thank you for posting this video, I got great tips
Thank you for showing and telling all. If I have to change one in the coming days, I will have no questions. I like that you reminded about shutting off the electric powering the entire house. By the way, nice hood you bought. And your camera person really did a good job. Thanks.
Really good video! Only one thing, you might think about putting a rubber grommet to cover the hole you cut out for the electrical wire. The edges of the hole are really sharp. When the fan is on, it vibrates and could, eventually, cut through the wire and cause some trouble down the road. Just saying.
Better yet why use the correct connector which would be a "1/2 Romex connector"! If you are going to use a grommett at least use a hard plastic one and not a rubber one. We usually only use grommetts on Low Voltage wiring like Cat 5, fire and security alarm wiring, telephone, intercom, surveillance camera, tv coax or antenna, etc,
But not a great deal for ventilation. This broan hood is barely even good enough for cooking. Only 120-160 CFMs. My dual blower Range Hood (Similar to the Hauslane C-190) is 500 CFM's.
This unit is not worth even $19. Noisy like a fighter jet and does nothing. I have had it for 16 years. It was installed by the contractor that built this house. Every time we run a stove a cook something the whole house is filling up with smoke. Just took it out as I am finally replacing it with a Victory range hood from BC, Canada. The new hood has a proper centrifugal fan. The new hood is arriving today and, hopefully, will live up to my expectations.
We just replaced our vent , and I was thinking what is that box part on the left on the fan.. Now I found it through your video in min 3:26. Thanks a bunch. 🌹 🙏
My partner normally handles the electrical stuff around the house but has been super busy with work. This video helped me feel comfortable tackling it on my own. Thanks Justin!
That's the same range hood I just took out of my kitchen. Manufactured in 1982 and was still working good. I just got a new range and wanted to update the hood while I was at it.
Same here. About to buy a new range and my old range hood works just fine but I want to update the look but having to deal with electrical wiring scares me. Maybe I will just keep the old hood until it breaks which may be never.
Hi, I need to replace one of the fans in our old range hood and cannot find any model number on the hood, but it looks like the one that you replaced (same design and filters). Ours is a Kenmore "Solid State", that's all the information that's on the hood, and Kenmore cannot help me. I was just hoping that there may be a chance that you would have any information on the old hood that you replaced. Thanks.

Can you please make a video about how we can install a stove instead of stovetop and microwave I stead of vent? I have the exact same old layout and want a stove and microwave on top. 😭
Hi, what I would like to know is how to wire the Hood Range when you don't already have a Wiring in Place? In order words creating a new Wiring, My new House didn't come with One, just came with a Outlet in the Cabinet above. Can I Just make a 3 Prong Outlet Plug in Head From the Hood Range and Just Plug it in the Outlet already there? Or I Have to get behind the Outlet to Wire the Hood Range Directly to the Outlet Wires? Thanks.
Good job sir however please use a "Romex" connector when running the wire through the "metal knockout hole" to lock it in place and avoid wire chaffing and shorts down the road.
Hey Justin what that main power black and white is not working? I got new exhaust but I installed and now no power, what do u suggest in this situation please let me know. Thank you.
5:25 to 5:48 you can see crap load of orbs. Idk if you believe in that stuff but yeah. Lol. Thanks for the video. Not dust because if you notice they change directory if you look closely
As in a few of these videos I've watched, I noticed that the flap closer thing (I forget what it's called) is included for the square vent but not for the case where a vertical circular duct is required. Why is that? Wouldn't you need the same back flow flapper thing in both cases?
relative has a bad fan motor on existing unit, I think they made a hole in unit to exhaust to outside through roof. Can we replace with a basic unit that exhausts I to kitchen? The old you can feel the heat coming from outside.
@claton blade Why in the world would you want to exhaust cooking odor/grease/smoke or water vapor BACK into your kitchen? The standard metal screens included in these units do very little to prevent this, so you are spending your money on what amounts to a very expensive overhead light. I would be more inclined to attach some sort of sliding gate to the exhaust duct, much like the ones used for workshop dust extraction systems, if you already have an existing vent hole.
Why didn't you clean under the old one before installing the new one? I would suggest some Silicone sealant before screwing down the vent, and on the outside before mounting, venting all that greasy air into the walls sounds like a potential fire hazard. How about some electrical tape around the wire nuts? Nice Job
i'm not a handy "woman". i only worry that the original vent duct does not lineup with the new range hoods. mine range hoods is a 20 years old sakura 30 inches R727. hope models are standardized in North America. Interested to buy broan 30-in undercabin. I guess better measure the duct distance from the end of cabinet.
If your installing a hood microwave combo a new circuit would be a good idea cause it takes more power. But if your not then you can use it on a shared circuit.
If you follow the directions it works out fine. I had the same reaction when replacing a ceiling light the first time. I had one ground wire and two copper wires - WTH? It was old wiring but using a voltage meter I figured out which was the live wire and was able to attach them correctly to the black/white wires on the light and it worked great and saved a lot of money over hiring an electrician.
@@aztecwarrior9729 I personally use the plastic ones, Home Depot has bunch. some people like the metal clamps.... can all be purchased in Home Depot for less than $3
It doesn't look like you have any ducting in that wall, which means all the grease that gets sucked up will end up inside your wall creating a HUGE fire hazard and you insurance company will laugh at you when they find out you caused the problem.
I don't understand why some people still check that circuit is dead if you know you turned off the right breaker. If it doesn't work after you turn off the breaker there is no power going to it so there is no way you can get shocked.
Breakers can fail and still let power through when in the off position. Never assume that a switched off breaker is truly switched off. Always make sure that the circuit is safe!! Also ,some idiot may have wired in the breaker on the neutral side! Assumption can get you killed....
Also, what if the fan and light are burn't out. Electricity may be present, but because they do not work you may think the breaker is off. For 5 dollars you can buy a device that shows if wires are hot, takes 5 seconds to be safe.
bad electrical wiring 1= your Romex cable through the metal frame needed a Romex metal frame connector secured to the fan housing 2= the Romex wire was expose in the exhaust flow housing which will collect grease from the cooking exhaust ,leading to a grease/electrical fire ,the grease will flow down to the connectors and cause a ground short and cause a fire very dangerous electrical wiring job your insurance will not cover this because you have this on tape recording

Great video! Thanks for the help. I was able to watch this once and replace my range hood quickly without any of the product instructions.
Really ? So r all the colors of the wires the same in each house

Great job! Thank you for the simple talk through. 👍 😊
Thanks for the info been searching for a hood just like yours and had no luck until now.
Need metal HVAC tape for the duct flap and a wire clamp where the wires pass through the hole in the hood to keep it from chaffing/shorting....

Quick Question: The exaust flap is not connected to a vent that goes outside?
What should I do if the eletric wires are coming out the wall opposite of the range unit eletric hole?
Can I make outlet from these wires on wall , i want to take off hood on my kitchen and install microwave on top
Always use strain relief on your wiring. Those sharp edges can cut your conductor.

Thank you for the detailed video b/c I didn't want to pay $149 to have it installed which is more than the hood itself.
@Justin McCurry how do you remove the fan blades without opening anything please tell here. I have tried to pull hard but it doesn't come off.
What if the light works but not thecfan? That is the issue I am having.
Thanks for all the tips!

You have to get a separate damper. It fits inside your round duct. Generally, the closer to the outside, the better.
Had trouble when turning power back on no light & no fan ? What did I do wrong?
Having the same problem. I dont have a ground wire coming from the wall so I have no idea what to do.

is it the same insalation if you are just using it as a hood fan ? with out exhaust?
Yes

You broke an NEC code. With the wires coming in you need some sort of bushing for that knockout.

better to have a clamp installed before you feed the house wire into your rangehood for long term benefit
