  • The NEW Terrain is here and GMC has some changes for 2022. On the outside you will discover a new grill, front fascia, headlights, and rear bumper. On the inside there are changes to the center console, and cloth seats. Under the hood is a 1.5L turbocharged inline-4 that produces 170HP mated to a 9-speed automatic. Is the 2022 GMC Terrain the BEST new compact SUV to BUY?

Just remember these crappy 9 speed transmission are part of the global Chrysler junks, wait till you start nearing the 30k mark. Shifts are atrocious, suv with a 1.5, 1.3 displacements, you are asking for trouble on the long run. Engine working twice as hard, just an honest mechanic relaying a message.

@@gregmach18 The wife's car is a lease so long term reliability is for whoever buys it when it's an old hooptie anyway lol...Got a '14 Jeep Cherokee V6 with the 9-speed auto that you mentioned sitting in my driveway as I type this with triple the miles you mentioned and it shifts fine, just had the fluid serviced at 80k according the owners manual recommendation. Did have an erratic shifting issue when it was newer that the dealer did a software update to fix while I waited for an oil change, but definitely doubt it will be unreliable for people who actually know how to maintain their cars/transmissions properly.

I also prefer this to the Equinox, seems a little sportier looking. I do love that floating roof design. Did the rear seats lean back a bit? I think the 2021 has about a 2'' tilt to them. The Chevy Equinox LT has a more decent sized infotainment system screen than what the GMC Terrain has, but at least there's an option for that on the LT trim level of the Equinox. Why the 2.0T engine was discontinued on the Chevy Equinox and the GMC Terrain is that most people sticked with the 1.5T engine more because they don't wanna spend a fortune on a compact SUV that has a hundred more horsepower. Of course if you reach the top of the mountain at the Denali trim level of the GMC Terrain, you get ventilated seats, heated seats, heated rear seats (would've been really nice to have ventilated seats for the rear passengers on a Denali), heated steering wheel, electric assist and power lumbar for the passenger and the driver, and available hands-free liftgate.

We shopped Terrain hoping to get a more potent engine than Equinox. Oh well. The shifter and black plastic around wheels is a deal breaker. Equinox for the win! (I worked for Chevy for a short time recently and the Certified Used lot was full of SUVs and trucks with faded black plastic trim, on 2 & 3 yr models.) Equinox is the only model without flat black plastic around wheels in the segment, and even larger. Lincoln and Caddy are the only other ones that don't (upper trims). Loved the first Twinkie placement! On door and inside console should have done it. 2 tone interior looks swell.
