Small note about the tunic in hot weather: important to note that a true Roman tunic was made of either linen or wool; both are much more breathable than cotton. To get the full benefit and comfort of a tunic from antiquity, go for pure linen or wool, or at least a blend if you're on a budget.
Finally found someone like me. And I'm the one who used to think I'm a weirdo for being obsessed with ancient fashion Lol Btw, this tunic was also worn by my ancestors The Berbers of North Africa (also called Amazigh, Numidians) who are the indigenous people of Northern Africa, this tunic is a typical Mediterranean dress, it's called "adherbal" in our Amazigh (Berber) language. Greetings from Algeria 🇩🇿♥️
I'm here because Link wears a tunic, Lol. I'm 30, I've been playing Zelda since I was 8. I never knew that a tunic is a long shirt 😅😅 You're video is splendid. This is my first time on your channel, and it has been excellent. Here's a big fat sub.
looking at how to sew a female ancient Roman dress I found this video, a very interesting, fun, and sweet video, lovely reflection at the end of the video about the respect for other professionals in the field of history. I subscribed, I did like the dog, and the fight with the win very much too. Hi from Finland.
I just love the simplicity and beauty of it. I would like pretty much to wear tunics or even chitons during warm seasons, which would be very convenient here in the tropics. I would add linen trousers though. Why not go ahead and wear a garnment around the head with a band to protect the head from the sun exposure.
How does this video have 52 likes??? Its crazy good! So detailed and well put together! And i also loved learning about the history behind these tunics. Not even mentioning how good of an artist you are wowww.. Thank you for making such a great video. All theh effort (and research) you put into this really shows! Will definetly be making a tunic soon! Loved this video! Also may i ask about your ethnicity? You fit very well in a tunic? Do you have roots somewhere in the Mediterranean? Sorry for such a long comment but.. yeah. Oh and by the way i would love to see a more in depth video about ancient cloth dyes, even the royal purple one.
great video bro! I enjoyed seeing your drawers. I've been sniping amazon deals for my clothes. I mean real amazon deals, not 50 percent off some expensive junk but deals cheaper than you'd find second at a thrift store and all natural fabrics. I am a hebrew and I love to get these deals but I feel bad for the unfortunate children who made it for me.
They did see some tunics up the sides in Rome, and would also sew decorative braid around the neckline as well as the purple stripes which showed the positions of various elected officials.
You can if you really want. I do. There is nothing against you if you want to wear a tunic but your own mind and a social taboo for dressing like everyone else.
The Romans would use urine to dye their wool white, in fact. In fact they had a term for clothing that was what's bleached. They would call it either Tunica or Toga Candida. It was meant to be worn during political or public functions. it's where we get the term candidate from
Peak temperature in Rome 25°C? Where did you read that? We get easily past 35°C in summer and up to 40°C, occasionally more. Also it gets colder then 8°C during the winter although not by much. It seldom gets freezing during the day but it's not uncommond to find ice on your car or on the ground in the morning. Other than that, pretty good video.
Thanks for your comment! The temperatures listed in this video were based off of historical measurements for the relevant time period. Which may, themselves, be inaccurate due to tech limitations. We're at a point globally where historic temperature peaks are being overwritten each summer. Climate change, baby!
Great question! From what I can tell, the tunic we made in this video is the most baseline, versatile version. It seems to me that women probably did, although it would likely be worn with some kind of adornment. For example, a more complex belt or perhaps lacing around the edges (which would then translate to lacing around the collar, sleeves, and base). Thanks for asking!
I just realized that I love ancient Rome. The only reason it took so long to figure it out is because I hate big Roman cities. I absolutely love rural areas and very small villages in ancient Rome.

When you go far east in fallout new Vegas after the victory of Caesar

you honestly look just like an ancient Greek. I wish I could wear a tunic every day.

Thanks for the encouragement to just start making something : )
Now me and the boys can finnaly start discussing political matters in some park.
This just made me laugh out loud and will most definitely be read aloud in the next Q & A video.
Very helpful! Thanks for gathering this information!
I would love to hear more about ancient dyes
Awesome, thank you!
I didn’t know you could draw ✍️ nice 👍

A historically accurate tunic should be made for living in the wilderness

Find a t-shirt 3 times larger then your regular size. i already lost.
It's a very good video, just fix the audio a bit and it will be perfect!
Interesting! Did women wear the same style of tunics, too?

Great video, but why am i watching this?
Your ancestors are smiling upon you.
I want to live in a roman villa dressed in my tunic.
To hand sew historically, learn how to backstitch. Your in and out the opposite side takes way too long.
The background music is extremely annoying
What would you have preferred?
man, you’re right
@@NoCeiling it kinda sounds like clown music, at least from the history portion
